  1. Here is my full write up of the new wing:

    https://embraceyourgeeknesseyg.com/2023/11/12/eyg-hall-of-fame-cinema-wing/

Throughout the year, I induct worthy nominees into the Embrace Your Geekness Hall of Fame. Whether it be the regular vote on the ballot by the EYG Nation, the Legends nominees, the Comic Issue Wing or special inductees, the EYG Hall of Fame is very active.

I decided that it was time to open a new wing of the EYG Hall of Fame. One of the biggest ‘geeks’ that many people have is movies. There are some movies that have made it into the EYG Hall of Fame, but I have always felt like there had not been enough considering how many amazing movies there have been over the years.

This first class of the EYG Cinema Wing are as follows:

    1920: Nosferatu (1922)

    1930: King Kong (1933)

    1940: Citizen Kane (1941)

    1950: Seven Samurai (1954)

    1960: Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

    1970: The Godfather (1972)

    1980: Blade Runner (1982)

1990: Silence of the Lambs (1991)

    Aughts: Psycho (1960)

Death Tribble was invaluable in his work in accomplishing this class of films.  He provided lists for each decade of films (which was an idea that he suggested) and helped provide info and facts about the films.  Then the two of us discussed which films should be dropped, leading to our final choices.  I thank him for all of his work and effort in this venture.

I plan on continuing with the Cinema Wing around the start of summer movie season (probably early May).  How that will look is still up in the air, but I am pleased with how this came out.

The films that have already been inducted into the EYG HoF are as follows: The Princess Bride, Star wars: A New Hope, Ghostbusters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Planet of the Apes (1968), Marvel’s The Avengers, Back to the Future, The Terminator, The Empire Strikes Back, Jaws, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, Marvel’s Black Panther, Die Hard, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Return of the Jedi, and Jurassic Park.

  2. Good day to everyone here at NGD!

As some of you may know, I run a website called Embrace Your Geekness and at that website, we have a Hall of Fame.  We do a poll every year where we at EYG nominate several items, people, characters, movies etc. and the top vote getters are inducted into the EYG Hall of Fame.

This is the EYG Hero Games NGD Award that we do every year (this is the eighth year for this award)

    How this works:

I am looking for nominations from the community of NGD for the best comic book artists or comic book writers of all time.

I would ask that you nominate those creators who you think have done enough work that they could be enshrined in the EYG Hall of Fame.  I require that those artists/writers be nominated by one poster and seconded by another in order to make the final poll

After that, I will take those nominees who have been seconded and place them into a poll.  The top three creators in vote total will be inducted under the "Hero Games Forum NGD Award"

We do have a few comic creators already in the EYG Hall of Fame.  Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Will Eisner, Osamu Tezuka, George Perez, Kurt Busiek, Chris Claremont, Neil Gaiman, Bill Finger, Bob Kane, Shuster & Seigel, Sergio Aragones, Carmine Infantino, Walt Simonson, John Romita Sr., Marv Wolfman, Marie Severin, Roy Thomas, Steve Gerber, Joe Kubert, John Byrne, William Moulton MarstonMark Gruenwald, Peter David, Jim Shooter, Alan Moore, Hayao Miyazaki, Gail Simone, Al Jaffee, Alex Ross, Neal Adams, Jolly Blackburn, Ben Edlund, Jim Starlinand Louise Simonson are already members of the EYG Hall of Fame so I will not take any nominations for them.

I am going to open the nomination and seconding process up and will allow it to run until November 17 at 6 PM Eastern. I will then put up a poll for the NGD to vote for the nominees.

I appreciate your involvement in this process.  The Non-Gaming Discussion board has always been an awesome place with some wonderful people.  I have enjoyed my time here.  That is why I wanted to get the input from you for this award for the EYG Hall of Fame, which is something that I have really been proud of doing for all these years.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this process.

Oh, by the way...  please only nominate those individuals who made their fame in the realm of comic books, not comic strips.

  3. With the movies, we started out with those mainly considered 'geek' films.  I do absolutely believe something like Citizen Kane has a place.

Bazza, Metropolis was on the ballot one year, but failed to receive enough votes.

Perhaps what I should do is form a wing of the HoF (like I do with Comic Issues) for Movies.  There are hundreds, if not thousands, of films that could be inducted.

I would limit the number inducted each year and have one time a year to put in worthwhile films.

In fact, I would love to have a board to make the nominations.  2-3 people along with me to induct 1-2 movies each every year.  We could start right after the ballot ends this year and then set it every year around Oscar time.

DT- would you be interested to be a part of the board?  Maybe you too Bazza?  It would give a more international flavor to the choices, potentially.

Let me know if you guys are interested or if there are anyone else you might like to join me. I think I am absolutely going to create this Cinema Wing of the EYG HoF even if it is just me making the choices.

What kind of movies would you consider ?

I am a film geek and I can dig up some ones that ought to be considered by either the serious film buff like Citizen Kane or a guilty pleasure geek like the Street Fighter film with Jean Claude Van Damme.

That reminds me, Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Skippy the Bush Kangaroo is an Australian serial with a kangaroo called Skippy. Popular on British Television as well as Australia in the 70s.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skippy_the_Bush_Kangaroo

Talking of which there is a swashbuckling series called the Flashing Blade broadcast in the 60s and 70s which is France vs Spain.

And on the subject of swashbuckling could we consider Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone for The Adventures of Robin Hood or the Mark of Zorro with Tyrone Power and Basil Rathbone ?

Or even Scaramouche with Stewart Granger and Mel Ferrer ?

Let alone any of the Three Musketeer films...

I do not want to monopolise the conversation or your site and I am willing to reply in Private Message or the boards.

Let me know the kind of movies and I can provide you with a short or long list for you to consider.

And we should have 1933's King Kong

Oh and while I think about it, what about other board games like Clue ?

I am also a film geek and so I think any movie that could be considered successful or influential could/should be considered.

Board games are available.  If I remember correctly, Monopoly is in.  Clue would be an excellent possibility.

And don't worry about taking up the conversation.  I do not think that is bad here.

I added some more as you were replying.

I have written them all down on my list. I appreciate the ideas.  Honestly, a few of them I have never heard of before (Skippy the Bush Kangaroo?) but I look forward to learning more about them.

I do induct Legends three times during a year as I also do a Jan 1 group with the same category (this year was Muppets) and some of these would work for those inductions too.

    Thanks for your participation!

Can you make suggestions for future consideration ?

Siouxsie and the Banshess and the Cure. They are the inspiration for a lot of the Goth movement and are referenced in the Vampire the Masquerade game certainly.

The Thunderbirds TV show from the 60s and while I think about it Captain Scarlet for the same reason.

Gerry Anderson for the same reason as he created them.

In the 70s he created the series UFO and Space 1999.

I had a look through the hall of fame and I do not recall seeing either the Addams Family (TV series or movies) or The Munsters (TV series)

I do not recall seeing The Night Stalker with Darren McGavin playing Carl Kolchak. The movie or Darren would be good choices.

What about Skippy the Bush Kangaroo ?

Or Marine Boy and Battle of the Planets ?

The original version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers ?

The original version of The Day the Earth Stood Still ?

Or 50s Sci Fi as a catch all ?

    the 1950s fil Them ! ?

Quatermass as either the series or the films ?

How about the hard boiled detectives of the 20's to 40s and the films that came from them like The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep ?

Would you consider Alan Ladd, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Richard Widmark ?

And how about 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel 2010 ?

Or Close Encounters of the Third Kind ?

And if we can have Westerns what about Red River, the Searchers, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the Wild Butch, the Long Riders and Tombstone ?

All excellent suggestions.  I'll keep them in mind.

We definitely have a lack of movies in the EYG HoF for whatever reason.

How many get through by the way ?

EDIT: Those who have been paying attention should know which ones I would champion and which ones I would dislike.

I take the top vote getter.  That vote count I determine 75% of it and every one that is above that gets in.

So for example... Barbie has 66 votes right now.  75% of that is 50 votes.  All above 50 make the cut.

  8. I have struggled with my final bonus interference pick.  Here we go...

Mister Rancor had been steaming.  Ever since Alitheon had gifted the world lie detection, Rancor had been searching the depths of his dark heart for a way to overcome the so called gift.  He had come up empty, which spurred on the feelings of vengeance within his mind.

Then, Alitheon dared to gift him 'white, hot fury'

That was all Mister Rancor could stand.

"How dare he believe that he could present me with more fury?  Does he not know that no one has more fury than the God of Hate!  It is a slap in my face!"

Was there a way he could directly deal with Alitheon?  No, it did not seem he could.  So the vengeance would have to take a different path.

"I do not need 'WHITE HOT FURY' as I am the center of that.  So... I feel the need to share the Gift of Alitheon with all!"

Interference (bonus)Mister Rancor shares the WHITE HOT FURY gift from Alitheon with every living creature of the Chimney.

The following have tried to do something about the murdered continent and have been rewarded.

    Assault, Hermit, Logan, Psybolt, Sociotard

    Cancer has an idea pending.

That means that the following can try and do something and get a reward

Csyphrett, DShomshak, Enforcer84, L Marcus, Old Man, Pariah and Pattern Ghost

The weekend is for catch up and flavour text

Can we do picks with the bonus picks on weekend?

  10. Mister Rancor remained unfulfilled from his efforts in the new cylindrical world.  That was probably only going to continue as the God of Hatred had never felt happy.  Any time he felt a twinge of what could be considered a positive feeling, he drove them back down into his gut.

He did spend more time than not watching the events of Hedonia.  Those individuals were very easy to manipulate and another idea that would sew the seeds of division and hatred sprung to his mind.  He had been engaged with the subtle aspects of his hatred crusade recently as Crax had taken the more direct method.  When he had pulled his son out of the last conflict, Rancor was irritated... or proud.  He wasn't sure which it was.

Mister Rancor decided something new.  Other Gods seemed focused upon insects and plants, but Rancor wanted more, no matter how entertaining it may have been.  He constructed a sister-city to Hedonia, built just to the southern border of the city which he named Austere.  It was a reflection of Hedonia and he encouraged easily manipulated humans and other such bio-forms to take up residence in the new city.  He spread the feeling of how these people were being judgmental of those people who spent their time and wasted their lives in Hedonia.

To make it even more of a play, he had these beings created temples to both Aziza, to the reflection of the hedonistic land, and Clarkent Kal, the hero with a heavy dose of righteousness.  Mister Rancor knew that the followers did not always understand or out and out misinterpret the words and beliefs of their deities so having them launch such a campaign of intolerance or manipulation against the people of Hedonia in the name of these two gods was something that "almost" tickled Rancor.

Geography:  sister city of Austere, built beside Hedonia.

Interference, pick 1:  Building two temples to other gods and directing the people of Austere to carry a campaign in these Gods' names against Hedonia.

I did not pick yesterday so this works together.  I believe I only have the bonus Interference pick and the bonus monster pick remaining.
