  1. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

    My emphasis.

To my knowledge they have yet to delete any. You might come back and find their names have been taken though.

But only if your characters are below a certain level, IIRC. I had a bunch of <10 level toons that got the "this name may have been taken" message, but all my top-level toons were nice and safe.

I even got a bunch of veteran badges and bennies when I logged back in! :D

  2. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

In the past when I've done that at MMOs' date=' the account has been hacked, used to powerlevel, spam the other players, and there have been charge backs on it. I don't wish to go through that again. Also according to the user agreement CoX will delete accounts that have had no activity for more than two months. So the characters would be deleted anyway. I might as well make a clean break.[/quote']

    Huh.

Like I said, my account sat inactive for close to three years, and I had no problem getting back. All my toons were even still there!

No worries, though. I certainly wouldn't want to push you into something you're not comfortable doing.

    Stay frosty! :D

  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

I'm going to be deleting my characters and closing my account in a couple of weeks. But I have accumulated a considerable amount of stuff and am more than willing to give it away to players who need it. If you're interested I plan to be under the Atlas statue this Sunday at noon EST. Guardian server.

Among the things I will have to give away are the recipe for Rocket Boots and about 30 million+ in Influence.

I hate to see it all go to waste when I leave, so come and get it.

I'd take you up on that, assuming I have any relevant enough characters on Guardian (I tend to stick to Protector for most of my important heroes), but I'm a faihful church attendee and actually have an afternoon activity this Sunday, so I wouldn't be around to receive your largesse.

If it helps, I let my account go inactive instead of closing it three years ago, and didn't delete my chars. I've jumped back in last month to find my faves still there and I'm having fun getting back in the groove. You might not want to burn the bridge behind you, so to speak, just in case you get the urge to come back.

In any case, good luck to you, sir. Hope you had fun while it lasted. :)

  4. Re: Disappointment

I think you could resolve this issue by having two levels of character builder' date=' something not unknown in these kind of games. So you could have some basic template characters that you fill out with package deals. Then you have the full system available to those that want the flexibility.[/quote']

    Good thought.

Despite my own reservations about the new DDO, I was impressed by them offering the paths during character creation that allowed players to write up a character quickly while providing customizable generation for those willing to roll up their sleeves.

Personally, I'm in the camp that implementing the PnP rules in a computer game might be feasible, although I'm not sure if the HW/SW technology is up to making it playable.

I also find pandering to the PvP crowd tiresome.

But then, I know I don't represent the bulk of the target demographic for these sort of games. :)

  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

And what was your PCs name?

    Ah.

Valyous Kzenos. In the first adventure, bystanders listening to the teens call out to each other got his name wrong, which resulted in him getting the hero name Valor.

His background was actually a fun one to come up with. I made this crazy mashup of Rom Spaceknight, The Powers of Matthew Star, and even some Star Wars.

What can I say? It was a late night. :doi:

  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

That must have been an awkward family reunion...

Heh. The way the scenario actually went down is that, during a later adventure involving time travel, Orion woke up back in WWII and found out a relative was secretly helping out the Nazis as a way to soften up Earth for invasion.

He (Susano) had no idea the GM was going to spring this on him. The rest of us were brought in to the trick and given temporary characters of the era to play out for the run.

The best part was Susano's face on the big reveal when Orion discovered the supervillain they were getting ready to fight was none other than his uncle! :D

  7. Re: Ultimate Pulp Era Gear Archive

    Got 'im for you. :)

Ah, yes. Colin Chapman's stuff. The man's a frickin' encyclopedia at times.

My bad for not thinking to spread the love over to these here parts. Definitely rep-worthy to have it come to light. Thanks, tkdguy! :D

  8. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

I'm a permanent MMO newbie. I generally avoid them simply because a lot of the elements present in MMOs mentioned (e.g., PvP, lewt, FoTM, farming) are things that I have absolutely no interest in.

When I first heard about CoH, I was skeptical simply because I could not see the expected MMO tropes to work with the superhero genre. A friend who was playing CoH introduced me to the game and showed me how Cryptic and NCSoft had managed to create a MMO that, well, didn't behave like a MMO.

When some of those elements began to creep into the game (like PvP), obviously due to pressure from the MMO-heavy crowd, my interest waned. After a while, I just stopped playing it enough to warrant the subscription and went cold-turkey.

Now, three years later, I'm back to playing it and rediscovering that what made me enjoy it is still there.

This is all a long-winded way of explaining my viewpoint. I like CoH for the ways it isn't a MMO. And one of the main ways it isn't is the fact that the fun of the game is getting to Level 50 (something I hadn't achieved yet after two years of playing). It's the journey, not the destination.

  9. Re: The Doctor is Back !

Sorry. I'm just not a Dracula fan, so the Van Helsing title didn't get a click.

I'm just hoping that the film makers remember that Solomon Kane is a dour puritan and not a standard action hero. The movie trailer is very action centric, but you can't always judge a movie by its trailer.

Yeah, my bad for not being more explicit. :o

I have some hope. The trailer seems to portray him as a tortured hero, risking his soul for the sake of innocents, and the stories did have that feel (at least the ones I read).

Besides, there's the tagline at the end. ("There are many roads to redemption. Not all of them are peaceful.") I've created many a character with that motivation. :D

  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

    Little skylark, lovely little skylark

Little lark, I'll pluck your feathers off

I’ll pluck the feathers off your head (I’ll pluck the feathers off your head)

Off your head (off your head)

    Little lark (little lark)

    Oh oh oh oh

Further verses involve ...ahem... "plucking" the feathers off of her beak, neck, wings, back, legs, and finally the tail (aw yeah). Apparently, skylarks are very pluckable.

Now I have the mental image of a rival bard mocking Xasha with the song, just before being pummeled to a pulp by her and her confederates. :D

And I'm not even in the game... :doi:

  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

It's a recipe for songbird. As in, cooking. Part of it involves plucking feathers.

    ...Obviously, NesterDRod is a cannibal.

Why? Because I consider Xasha... pluckable? :sneaky:

    Another tune comes to mind...

"Why smilest thou, Lord Dragon, sir?

Asked our hero in armor laden.

Why, you’d smile too, the worm replied,

If you’d just eaten a maiden."

    :D

    ...

Could someone please turn the Smut Field off in here? Thank you.

  12. Re: The Doctor is Back !

Actually' date=' I'm kinda of glad that I did read the comments, because by doing so I found out that there is Solomon Kane movie coming out and it is far enough along to have it's own trailer.[/quote']

Well, I did put out the word about that here.

    Sorry you missed it. :(

  13. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

... Mind you' date=' saucepans can be lethal.[/quote']

Reminds me of the news article about the angry wife who beaned her wayward husband with a saucepan and knocked him right out.

The title of the article? "She Conks to Stupor".

    :D

  14. Re: The Doctor is Back !

Reading the comments on the article made me sad. :(

I realize most of them are probably mouth-breathing trolls, but the idea that there's a generation of comic-book readers out there who don't know who Doc Savage is... well, it makes a grown man weep. :weep:
