  1. Re: Not "Secret", not "Public", just "Identity"

No, being 'instantly forgettable' is an advantage as well, and should be purchased with points, in addition to the deleterious effects mentioned. :D

Seriously, I'd add "Invisibilty, only to not be remembered (-1 at least)" to that guy. He's not actually invisible, but he tends to get overlooked and forgotten a lot. Which means the villians forget to attack him some of the time...

In the Mage the Ascension game it was a background called Arcane. It pretty much made you hard to locate and added some to general stealth. So yeah, this is a perk or a power depending on how much omph you want your anonymity to have.

    HYPERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have filed a restraining order against you. You are to remain 100 feet away from my character files. It is frightening just how alike your builds and mine are alike. THIS is nearly the same character I built in 4e called Stormbreaker.

  3. Re: Not "Secret", not "Public", just "Identity"

Lack of either identity-related Social Limitation usually means that you identity' date=' widely known or not, is a non-issue to most people.[/quote']

I agree with this totally at first.

But, not having an "identity" disad can come back to haunt the character later. Mostly in getting a suddenly "public identity". Hunteds will learn to come after you once they learn where you hang your spandex. The idea is that the character is a symbol some of the time (SID) or all of the time (PID)...you don't have to make the choice NOW, but you will have to make it!

Now, in the cases of Spiderman, Captain America, and even the Flash in their unmaskings (and to an extent Superman) people expect them to be more important so the big reveal is disappointing. That does not mean that secret identity means nothing, it just means a face without a background is well worthless.

  4. Re: Your Gaming Group's Jargon

    I've remembered another one.

Each campaign seems to have a "Designated Angst Boy". This is the one character in the whole party that feels bad about whatever the party has to do. A character that is all concience and no rationale.

    Doc

    Wow...another delightful necromantic thread.

And a storm blows in: Whenever a new GM took over the shared game, it seemed I always had the weather change...I never noticed but they did.

Sleeth: based on a misspelling of stealth, it amounts to the same thing.

I'm not going to give you the satisfaction: A character is on his/her last legs and the enemy is upon him...what does he do? Clunks himself on the head!

  5. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine

The utility doesn't really have an option for saving, printing, etc. Once you have it looking the way you want, you pretty much have to put the image into some other program to do any of that. Personally, I just use the MSPaint program that came with XP.

One other recommendation: When you get around to saving your images, use the .PNG format if it's available. It makes things look a lot better than .jpg or .gif.

Somethings that are perfectly obvious to others occasionally escape me.

    This is what I do:

    create awesome image

    right click for menu

    read that nothing involves copy/paste/cut

    choose print

get a blank template with the art tools (in color) printed out.

Am I supposed to see something else?

    :help:

Alright, I am officially frustrated. I am using firefox on a vista machine and going to the site. I can not figure out how to export.

I am about to go postal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Have a nice day.

  7. I just want to emphasize I am copying this call from the player finder forum. The Champions forum has more eyeballs. In other words, I ain't the GM.

    Casting Call

    1985

“Dr. Wyatt, the first patients are ready.” The assistant hesitated a moment before continuing, “Are you sure about this? I mean, this stuff hasn't been tested yet. What if it kills them instead of curing them?”

“Don't worry, Eddings. Do you think I would try this on kids if I didn't think it was safe? Just prep them like you were instructed and leave the rest to me.”

“Yes, sir.” The young man left the lab praying they were not making a mistake and Dr. Wyatt was right.

    *****

    1998

Oh my God, what have we done? Jeffery Eddings thought as he ran for the heavy reinforced door to the lab. Dr. Wyatt was dead and if he did not get out of there soon he would be next. Eddings looked back over his shoulder, thank God, the monster was still feeding and did not seem interested in him.

This could not be happening. How could the sweet little girl they had been treating that morning turn into this ravishing beast? A monster with the strength to rip the limbs off a man?

Looking forward again, Eddings was just in time to see the heavy door slam shut and heard the safety locks click in place. Someone had locked him in. Throwing himself at the door, Eddings yelled in vain for whoever it was to let him out.

Eddings felt eyes watching him and looked back to see the noise had drawn the child's attention away from her meal. Now she was staring at him with a predatory look as if she knew the half eaten man in front of her would not be enough to satisfy her appetite.

The child lunged for him and he tried to scream but no sound emerged. His last thought was to worry how many others would undergo the same transformation and how many people would be killed before they were stopped.

    Today

“Mr. Harris, I have some bad news.” The young woman said as she entered the lavish office.

“It can wait, Erica. I have a meeting with General Evans in half an hour.” Kenneth Harris answered.

“You'll want to hear this, sir. They found another one.”

The blood drained from Harris' face at his assistant's word. It had been eleven years since Project Superman had been shut down and all test subjects were supposed to have been terminated but in the past six months five previously unknown subjects had surfaced and each of them had displayed unusual abilities. How could those children have slipped through their hands and how many more were out there?

“Erica, get General Evans on the line and tell him I'm going to have to cancel our meeting.” As his assistant left Harris sat back in his chair and steepled his fingers, lost in thought.

After the first rogue subject had been discovered he had developed a plan in case any more turned up but it had taken time to put together. There were still some kinks to be worked out but those could be solved on the fly. It was time to activate Project: Eradicate.

    *****

Project: Eradicate is a very low powered supers game using the Hero System rules with the player characters being the grown subjects from Project: Superman.

This is going to be an unusual game in that characters are going to be assigned points based on the concept behind them so it will be unlikely any two characters will be built on the same number of points. The reasoning for the varied number of points is because some concepts, such as a characters with superior senses, can be expensive to build without being very powerful. What will be enforced is all characters will have a very narrow concept with only a few powers to begin with.

As the characters face down each new threat and learn more about their origins, further development can be made in their power's concepts.

Defenses will be minimal and resistant, mental, and power defenses will be restricted to those concepts it makes sense for. Yes, this means a normal toting a gun can hurt the characters if they are not careful.

All characters must be between 20 and 30 years of age and have spent time in the California foster care system. I will leave the reason they were in foster care, whether they were adopted, returned to their natural parents, or raised in the foster care system, and whether or not they remember being in foster care up to the player. None of them know they were the subject of genetic experimentation and if they remember any of it they think it was just routine medical care.

Please include your character's background and a write up of what type of power they have in your submission and send them to me at aliyyah@gmail.com

Submissions close at midnight EST, Feb. 24 and the roster will be posted no later than Feb. 28. The month of March will be used to complete the character write ups with the exception of Mar. 15-22 when I will be on vacation. The game will officially start on Apr. 1.

    Summary

Twenty-four years ago top secret Project: Superman was initiated The

purpose of this project was to create super powered individuals for

use in the United States armed forces. For nearly eleven years the

project showed little success. Few of the test subjects, consisting of

children in California's foster care system and prisoners in federal

penitentiaries showed any changes from the genetic manipulation they

underwent but those few were enough to keep the project alive.

Then something went wrong. One of the test subjects, a ten year old

girl, mutated beyond anything the scientists working on the project

had expected and killed the lead scientist, Dr. Reginald Wyatt, and

his assistant, Jeffery Eddings. The incident was covered up and the

project shut down with an order for all test subjects to be

terminated. What the project overseers did not know was Eddings,

feeling guilty for what they were doing, had altered the records on

some of the younger subjects indicating they had died as a result of

the experiments in order to protect them from further experimentation.

Now those children are grown and have begun to develop abilities

beyond those of normal humans. Some made the mistake of making their

powers known, others have kept their powers secret and are just trying

to lead as normal a life as they can. Either way, those behind

Project: Superman are now aware of their existence and have vowed to

recruit them into the fold and if they refuse to eradicate them as the

    menace they are.

  8. Re: Megascale Movement, Lightspeed, and Escape Velocity

To be fair HSD Doc was just pointing out something he noticed, not that he was trying to get a Lightspeed Human Torch (that character is called FireLord and is a Herald of Galactus!)

This thread should be in the 5th Ed discussion forum but who cares..Sean Waters might find it here too, and we all know how much he loves conversations like this.

  9. Re: Megascale Movement, Lightspeed, and Escape Velocity

I am not a numbers stickler so being off by a little doesn't whigg me like some other people, so I am not going to jump all over proving if this concept is mathematically shaky.

This concept is essentially correct and represents the idea behind megascale. Now applying both UBO usable as an attack and megascale to a power like flight is very abusive and should be adjudicated carefully. It would not make it into one of my games, but in a DBZ game or something where knockback was bought with a megascale advantage then sure thing.

hmmm naked advantage (megascale 1"/1,000,000,000 Km) [+2 1/2] on 100 STR only applies to knockback [-1/2] x2 END [-1/2] 125 points which fits nicely in a megapowerful bricks Brick Tricks MP

  10. Re: Super useless

One game about 22 years ago (d@mn when did I get that old?)

The Crash Test Dummy 75% damage reduction (everything) 8rPD/8rED and 2 body regeneration. Easy to hurt a little....just a little though, liked pain. Actually was an animate test dummy

The Fro - think captain caveman but blacksploitation, Equipment VPP all low tech (street stuff--switchblades, afrocurl (change environment) etc)

The Coach -smelly gymshots wearing dude with a bullhorn and a whistle --aid and skill levels UBO.

    I was a FUN game.
