wcw43921
Saw this posted on Facebook and thought I'd pass it along--Timothy Zahn and what is perhaps his greatest contribution to the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The guy nails Grand Admiral Thrawn, in my opinion--
tkdguy
Grand Admiral Thrawn was one of the best villains ever written up. Pity the character was killed off at the end of his trilogy. He would have made a great recurring character.
wcw43921
Years ago I was at a panel at GEN CON where Timothy Zahn and a few others were talking about Star Wars, and he commented on Thrawn's death, saying some people had criticized it because they thought he (Zahn) didn't want anyone else using the character. Zahn then explained that he killed Thrawn for two reasons--first, to give the readers a sense of closure to the trilogy, and second, because if Thrawn had lived, the New Republic would have been doomed. So there you go. Personally, I want the New Republic to win.
tkdguy
True, he would have caused the New Republic no end of trouble. Still, a quality villain is hard to come by, so I felt a bit sad about it. Also, the manner of his death was rather anticlimactic. He deserved IMO a more grandiose end. CaptnStrawberry
That's perfect! It they're already dead, Kirk would feel absolutely no compunction with sending them to check behind that rock. Not that he ever did. . .
