OIF OAF and Viacels

The answer would be "it depends." I've never had to build a vehicle, so I won't speak to the durability question.

With respect to Inaccessibility of a weapon of in a ship - without any further details, 6Ev1 p.377 says very clearly that an OIF requires a full Turn of out of combat time to remove - so it would be essentially impossible to do it during combat.

Perhaps if you gave us more detail we could be more helpful. For instance, if the character is trying to remove a ship's cannon mounted to the wing to carry it around and shoot people - well, first that's not a focus. It's a part of the ship, and it is nested within that construct from a rules perspective. You can't just treat it like a Focus because it isn't one.

Second, from a technical perspective, that will just ruin the weapon unless you have some careful engineering/tech rolls that would allow the character to carefully, over the course of several hours probably, jury rig a way of removing the weapon and turning it into an emplaced weapon/mount it to another vehicle - or some sort of extensive heavy weapon rig that could be used briefly before it ran out of ammo.

I'm assuming it's OP's 2nd or third language, combined with a lack of spell checking software.

Not that it matters when someone with a total of 4 posts to the boards shows up asking for help, suggesting that we are dealing with someone who is new to HERO or at least not an established part of this community, and therefore it would be wise to put forth an extra effort to be helpful and welcoming so as to further strengthen the hobby which is our passion.

May be on a cell? I concur.

Though I might create a scifi gadget call a viacel now.

sory for the bad speeling i have a mild form o dyslexia and english ins not my first lang (talking and reading it is a difrent thing tho). And i di-dent have any spellchecking program avibil att the time and was in a hurry. The weapon is a big cannon that will be instald on a star ship. And we run in to the discussion on howe esy it was to remove and howe esy you cud use it afterwards

After me and my frinds coms to an argument abut OIF-Bulky, and i uses in vaicel howe esy cud a person remov a wepon from a shif or not if it is OIF, Is a OIF a part of the ship for the purpus of durabilety ans so foth

I try to fix this so we can go on with the discussion:

"Me and my friends came to an argument about OIF-Bulky.

If a vehicle has a weapon with the OIF-Bulky Limitation, could a person remove the focus or not? I mean a OIF affect the durability of the weapon."

I see a precedent for that question in one Episode of Young Justice, Season 1: Failsafe.

At first they take a gun off a alien ship and put it onto miss martians Bioship.

Later Superboy rips a gun of the alien ship and plays Anti-Air with it.

In Justice League/JLU we have also seen the Martian Manhunter phase his hand through robotic enemies (like a braniac drone body) and somehow "trigger" his handblaster too.

Focus has 3 important subparts:

Obviousness (ability to see there is a focus and wich power it will produce)

Accessibility (ability to deny the use without destroying it/steal it)

Destructability (can you just destroy it)

If you only want destructability, Material Manifestation is the limitation.

If you only want accessebility/denyability, Restrainable is the limitation.

For Power armor, "Only in Alternate Identity" might also be an option.

You can obviously see it is a gun. It has clearly "ranged weapon" shape.

You can not easily deny it/steal it.

It is destructible.

Even if you steal it, your movement will be limited while you carry it (bulky)

Another issue is where it get's it's endurance from. Vehicles are usually build with a Endurance Reserve simulating a reactor. Wich means the weapon could not function for more then 1-2 shoots if the energy cables are cut.

"Could a character with Superstrenght rip a OIF Bulky of a vehicle to use it as range weapon like Superboy did in Young Justice Failsafe?"

Taking it off with superstrenght in a simple or complex action would be a stretch of the rules, but might be allowed. Just check if his strenght can overcome the armoring (Physical Defense) of the hull. It might need mutiple phases or pushing depending on relations..

Could he still use it afterwards? As long as the cables are not cut, maybe. Without that only a few shoots (no internal powersource*).

Would he still suffer the bulky penalty despite being so strong? Likely. It is still a big-ass gun and he has to keep the power cables intact, greatly limting his mobility (and thus DCV).

*Having too much ammo or the powersource in an external weapons platform is usually a bad idea. You loose a gun AND a large part of the ship if that goes up. Not to mention the inefficiency of having hundreds of small generators over one big one in the center. Or the fact that one smaler magazine/reactor could feed dozens of guns.

Jinto, please feel free to follow up with additional questions or requests for clarification. I would say Christopher's answer is the best - I completely failed to account for the fact that the PC in question has superstrength and wants to literally just rip the weapon out of its mount - that is a different scenario, and why the Focus rules might not be appropriate for this scenario (because even Superman can't remove my OIF: suit of platemail in just a Phase - although he could certainly kill me, with a narrated SFX of that being that he ripped it open and tore out my torso and threw it across the room in just a Phase).

I just built several vehicles for a new campaign and in my opinion the STR you need to destroy or grab or remove an Focus rather well correlates with the damage the weapon does. That means: If you can take it you don't need it.

Superboy using a mini-gun looks real badass. But pointwise it isn't much more than a SFX using his usual powers.

The focus rules are pretty balanced after 30 years.
