Re: The what would your character do posting game

Shidoku was posted earlier, but in summary she's a mutant with the power to read her opponents moves, body language, expression and predict their actions and combat prowess. She's also a natural combatant and has a healing factor and cybernetic implant eye with several computerized function. Shidoku (Akio) is the product of her parents murder and exists in a very Iron Age setting where low powered mutants are the only superhumans.

Valkeyrie discovered her powers while being abused by her ex boyfriend. She is a brick who's body adapts to energy attacks, growing more and more resistant each time she is struck by a particular form of energy. Valkeyrie is highly intelligent but extremely shy and bookish with a frightening recall of facts and trivia. Her world is Four Color with superhumans only recently coming into existence (as in the last few years).

Tao is from the Global Gaurdians Universe (Worldmaker's setting) and a member of the Baltimore New Guard. Tao is a sort of patchwork Hero created from the genetic material of the fallan Freedom Fighters she has a bit of all their powers, but very little practical experience. She has only been aware for about a year and despite her intelligence it shows in a childlike deamonor and social inexperience.

Eve, the girl Robot. Eve is one of the first AI in her game world and an experiment but that world's leading roboticist. She is a highly advanced nanotech metamorph with two functional modes, a Cyberpath mode which allows her to interface with and control machines and a combat mode with interchangable weapon modules. Eve's persona is that of a well mannered little girl as her developer wants her personality to develop "organically" and he raises her like a daughter.

Re: The what would your character do posting game

I've posted their stats before, but a brief summary:

Starguard is an 18-year-old girl, amnesiac, and the nicest person in the world -- who just happens to be wielding the power of an archangel.

Literally. In our most recent play session, Horus-Re discovered that some as-yet-unknown band of mystics had somehow summoned and bound a very powerful angelic being, apparently killed it, and transferred its essence into her. Or at least, that's what the twin altars with the corpse of the angel on one and the outline where Starguard had lain on the other surely hinted at.

Her first week that she can remember, she's gotten caught up in the refounding of the world's most powerful hero team, become the effective ward of the world's most prominent superhero (the aforementioned Horus-Re, child of the ancient Turakian sun god, Demigod of Truth, and our game world's Superman analogue not only in power but in status.), and in general, gotten in so far over her head that some days she feels like she's drowning.

Mechanically, she has Cosmic Awareness, flight, force field, and an 80-point Cosmic VPP. Thematically, she concentrates on something happening, and it happens. (Within the limits of her 'archangel magic' special effect.) Although she has the potential to be highly destructive (indeed, at one point she used MegaScale Tunnelling to stop a charging army in its tracks by surrounding it with an instant Grand Canyon), she much prefers to heal people.

Despite not knowing who she is and feeling horribly out of her depth, she's already become the team's emotional center, as well as the alien Pricess Cyrande's best (and possibly *only*) friend. (For more about Cyrande, look up the 'Character Monologues" thread, as BcAugust has written some great ones there.)

In 'tone', Starguard is Silver Age.

Dr. Pain is a character I've generated and laid out a lot of backstory and character bits for, but haven't had a chance to play yet.

He's much more down-to-earth. Leon "Dr. Pain" Stepczinski is the former WWF wrestling champion, one of their most pre-eminent heels. When Pulsar attacked the Royal Rumble to show how tough he was on camera by "winning" the championship bout (with Flight and Energy Blasts), being strucky by the beam triggered Leon's meta-gene, endowing him with strength and durability comparable to Ogre's, while not affecting either his appearance or intellect.

After doing a 20-foot superleap off the floor of the ring to snag the (very surprised) Pulsar, grab him by the neck, and choke-slam him two feet into the concrete, there was nothing for Leon but to announce his retirement from pro wrestling and become a superhero. Seeing as how, well, 70,000 people in the stadium and a couple million more at home had just witnessed his origin live on pay-per-view...

While no genius, Leon is actually more intelligent than he looks (which isn't hard, given that he looks like a bald version of the Undertaker), to the point of having a bachelor's degree in business administration. He's also, as befits a WWF superstar, experienced at dealing with the media and being on camera, and his agent helps him be even more experienced.

He's not an in-it-for-the-money glory hound like Cavalier, though. Leon was *already* rich and famous before he ever got superpowers, and already had hundreds of thousands of fans. He uses his superpowers for good because, well, he feels an obligation.

Of course, given that his stage persona was that of a hyper-barbaric thug, and he still uses his name and a variant of his old costume, he does have a few minor problems re: the clash between reputation and reality. :)

Dr. Pain is a Bronze Age character.

The Baron von Darien is an 1100-year-old master vampire, and another character who I've made and never had a chance to actually play. (Although in an epic D20 fantasy game, I did once run the original prototype of Aral von Darien as a human being, so I at least had a chance to work out with the personality and theme, if not the powerset.)

I keep a list of character concepts that I never had a chance to finish playing with, due to premature ending of the campaign. When that happens, I recycle the concept for later use. Hence, the creation of the Baron from the aborted effort with the original von Darien.

Baron von Darien, in Champoins continuity, is a man who lived 11 centuries ago in medieval Germany. He was originally a wandering mercenary fighter, leader of a small company of men. The defeat of the great wyrm Blundiskrig at his hands (Blundiskrig is mentioned in "VIPER: Coils of the Serpent", but the name of his killer was left open) saw him rewarded with lands and title. He had a wife, a son, and a satisfying life, at least by Dark Ages standards.

Then he lost everything in a senseless war with a much more powerful baron, who coveted his neighbor's lands. The bereft von Darien, with nothing to live for, commenced on the standard epic quest for revenge -- and almost succeeded. Left dying in the rubble, he was Embraced by a passing vampiress, a weak and flighty thing who wanted a strong and loyal henchman. To gain the chance to finish his uncompleted vengeance, he accepted.

Eleven centuries later, he's now a billionaire -- wealthy, experienced, a master of many arts and a consumnate intriguer. Think the Eastern European Ra's al Ghul. He's also a founding member of the Trismegistus Council, and one of Earth's most loyal and deadly (as well as most secret) defenders against mystical evil.

For the Baron was never an evil man -- he was a good man who made one mistake, a mistake whose curse has never left him for a single second. After the initial blood madness passed, he had worked secretly against his own kind. Under the pose of vendetta rather than justice, he killed as many of the most dangerous vampires as he could, and intimidated the lesser into restraining their depredations. Under the deception of banding together to protect themselves from the growing power of humans, he manipulated the European vampires into binding themselves with laws and codes and intrigue against each other, further restraining themselves from the maximum potential of the havoc they could wreak, and causing them to miss the opportunity to become the secret masters of the New World. By the time his fellow undead realized just how the Baron had deceived them into hobbling themselves it was the turn of the 20th century, and far far too late for them to recover the chances they had missed.

Faking his death in World War II during the Blitz, he moved to America and lay quietly low, for the arrival of the Age of Heroes convinced the Baron that he was no longer needed, and could at last retire.

That conviction didn't last more than a couple of decades. :)

Ability-wise -- well, think Ra's al Ghul meets an elder Ventrue, and you've got it. Personality-wise -- Victor von Doom.

Hey -- he's been undead for eleven centuries, working alone in an environment where he's had to play roles and lay plots deeper than most mortal men can even conceive of, is a strategic genius like few other, and has the highest willpower in the world (the Baron has EGO 45.) He's perhaps the most honorable man you've ever meet, but he's also a ruthless killer like few others.

The Baron von Darien is, quite obviously, very Iron Age.

Note -- Starguard started in a 750-point campaign, and with earned experience is now pushing 800. Dr. Pain is a starting 350-point character. The Baron's several writeups range from 750 to 1000.

Re: The what would your character do posting game

Jack T. Chance - Built on 250 points, he is a half demon/ half human kind of hero. He never wore a costume and was just pretty obnoxious. He could shoot hellfire from his fingertips and teleported by walking through any portal. (It was not of much use during combat but he could go to other dimensions and take people along with him.) I got play him a few times.

Daniel Knight - A martial artist/telekinetic. The idea of him came from my love of The Matador series by Steve Perrin and Armor by Neal Adams. Abducted as a child by aliens because of his mutant power he was trained to be a gladiator. After a decade of this treatment, Daniel finally managed to escape. He was taken in by the Matadors and trained in the 97 steps, their martial arts style. After working as a bodyguard for the Matadors he joined another group of Star Guardians that trained him in the use of his laser sword. While working for this group Daniel was arrested by a Corrupt Stellar Government and spent 3 years in a Maximum security prison before arranging a mass escape. Daniel was able to at long last find charts that would lead him home and he returned to Canada. David, his brother whom was the sole witness to the abduction, has used his own mental powers to build a vast financial empire. Daniel contacted him and the two were reunited. Given money to set up his life Daniel starts The White Rose Detective Agency. Daniel would from time to time team up with the premier hero of Canada (I have forgotten his name but it was something along the lines of Captain Canada). The media labeled Daniel his sidekick. As this brought in more clients Daniel did not really mind. During one team up The two heroes became involved in a contest to determine who was worthy to represent Good in the Cosmic Trinity (good, neutral, evil). Captain Whatever failed the tests but Daniel did not. He left with a guardian spirit, that would later become his wife, and The Heartstone (A variable 100 pnt Power Pool). He tried not to use the power from the stone and despised it because it represented the loss of a good friend. Daniel went on to establish a super team to protect Canada. Initially he had a variety of TK powers, a suite of Martial Arts, a pair of Spetsdods (small gadgets that fit on the back of his hands and are triggered by pointing. They could be loaded with different ammo but a paralytic is most common) and (well basically) a light saber. Daniel was not bothered by killing but would only resort to it if he could not find another way.

Bane - The twice cursed man was originally a hero by the name of Jester. Jester had gained his powers when he crossed paths with a demonlord. As Franklyn Eswards, Jester, was an archaeologist and during a dig he stumbled across a portal to the Abyss. While there a Demonlord captured him and planned to use him to manipulate this new technology based off of electricity. The Demonlord tore out Eswards soul and cut it into three pieces. One piece he left alone, one piece he corrupted slighty and the last piece he corrupted totally. The uncorrupted piece went back inside Eswards and the Demonlord created bodies to house the other two. He commanded the trio to battle for his pleasure and during the fight something occurred. The slightly corrupted spirit and the clean spirit merged together. The explosion that accompanied this allowed them to escape from the Demonlord. On Earth the totally corrupted piece of Eswards refused to merge and attacked but they had discovered that their powers could not harm each other. The corrupted piece chose the name of Harlequin for itself and fled. The slightly corrupted Eswards had control of the main body and chose the name Jester. Franklyn Eswards thought the whole event was just a horrible nightmare. When Jester took over his body Eswards would only remember this as a dream. After a few adventures Jester becomes a founding member of The Coven in England. During this time he discovers that he is a Prince of Amber and that was the reall reason that he was targeted by the Demon. An adventure takes him away from the Earth for 7 years and when he comes back, America does not exist anymore and England has been taken over by a hostile power. Taking a tour of europe, he runs into Jewel Harper. Jewel Harper mind controls him and turns Jester into a Vampire. His death greatly injures Harlequin and truly combines the two souls inside of Eswards. What wakes up is referred to as Bane. He soon makes a reputation for himself by tricking the devil into giving him a device to operate in the sun. He soon becomes the leader of the Coven, liberates England, and places the true King on the throne. Bane was a major player with more powers than I knew what to do with. He had Bioelectrical powers but nothing with range. His touch could electricute his opponents, he could build up his energy and cause it to explode out around him with tremendous force but it would weaken him to do that frequently causing him to become blind for a time afterwards. He could, teleport, go desolid, turn invisible, see in the dark, he had hyper senses and he could mind control the opposite sex to fall in love with him. He could use electricity to heal his wounds. He had a deck of cards that allowed him to travel to other dimensions and communicate with members of his family. The fun part was that I roleplayed the majority of it,(the first part with the Demonlord was his orign) from when he was Jester into when he got turned into Bane (a decision I did not like but the GM thought would be cool. He was worried about all the experience points I had stockpiled, over 200 pnts. He thought I was going to spend them on a big blast or something) Needless to say I played this character quite a bit and for many years. He was the first and only character I actually got to retire.
