Other actions while holding some one?

Your standard brick grabs an opponent and squeezes. The opponent does not break out next turn. The Bricks next turn he is still holing his opponent, can he take another action that does not require him to move and retain his hold? Like shooting eye beams at a different opponent? Or activating a darkness field?

I would assume the answer is yes as long as the action does not compromise this hold on his opponent.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Other actions while holding some one?

I would say, depending on SFX, yes. However, the character would be unable to actually squeeze his held target, just keep him grabbed. Also the character would not be able to use the limbs occupied by grabbing.

So conceivably eye lasers would be okay... but I'd probably give a to-hit penalty due to the struggling of the held opponent. I'd say the use of OAF or IAF powers is generally out of the question, too, unless the Focus is orbiting around the character's head or something...

I wonder if Ultimate Brick will have some answers to this...

In the past, I've allowed most actions. DCV & OCV penalties may apply though some of that is dependent on how well the victim is held. If the brick has the victim held tightly with Casual STR, then I don't think there would be penalties.

Re: Other actions while holding some one?

Isn't there a CV penalty for the grab that should apply to the grabber until the target is released?

According to FREd, a grabbing character is at 1/2 OCV to strike at any target other than who he's grabbed. Personally, I'd apply this penalty for any other action that would require any sort of aiming, such as setting up a Force Wall or Darkness (unless it's in their own hex).

As far as non attack actions go, so long as those actions don't require any kind of complicated movement or concentration, it's just as easy as when not grabbing something. Although even if that's the case, you can always try grabbing with only one limb, leaving the other free for other actions.
