Minor question on Uruk-hai.

i was wondering how much STR should I give the average one in comparison to the other races. I am thinking 15 because they seemed to be big on brute force and low on smarts (at least anything resembling individual thought). And 15 would be twice as strong as an average human. So is this too much, too little?

Actually, I'm not entirely sure the Uruk Hai should be stronger than humans at all, and if they are, it would probably be due to their training and lifestyle, rather than their inherent physical nature. Every Uruk Hai has a soldier professional package, but not every human does.

Re: Minor question on Uruk-hai.

I seem to remember the Uruk-hai being a bit smarter than the average Orc. They could also move about freely in the daylight, although they hated it. They were also a bit larger than the Snaga (slaves). And as Outider mentioned, they were bred t be warriors.

Maybe give +2 to STR to show they're a bit stronger than humans, if you think they are. Otherwise, just give them the Heavy Fighter Package Deal.

Re: Minor question on Uruk-hai.

Over on the D&D boards back when FotR came out, there was a more or less raging debate over this. A pretty strong case was made that to best model them in 3e, use Goblins for the normal "orcs" and Hobgoblins for the "black orcs" or Uruk hai.

Mechanically that seemed to be a very good way of handling it to me. In 3e Hobs get a +2 Dex and +2 Con and have otherwise normal human stats, but that is easily changed to +2 Str and +2 Con if you prefer.

3e Stats convert directly to HERO stats (unsuprisingly considering how much of 3e's underpinnings mimic HERO) with the exception of BODY and HP, so +2 STR and +2 CON would work well as a racial base in the HERO System. Then apply a Fighter Package with some more STR and whatever else to suit.

Re: Minor question on Uruk-hai.

That probably makes sense as I am analyzing it. +2 STR compared to a human in same fighter class. Though I probably should take a -2 for them on INT. I am not saying they were really dumb. But they were pretty much trained up to be a bit one dimensional, parts in the Helm's Deep battle showed they werent swift at adjusting on the fly. Which should reflect on INT.
