Re: black market items

hmm, exotic animals could be done in a fantasy environment, mostly smaller live animals (pot bellied dragons, shetland unicorns) and the neat bits off dead big ones (Troll Tusks, Warg Pelt) see the bestiary for some ideas. It even gives a rough pricing guide.

Depending on the political climate, items from certain nations could become prohibited, akin to the current status of cuban cigars. Perhaps a dwarf might get a contact to slip him some mithril mail, since the dwarves have embargoed the elves.

Slaves, in the form of dumb labor or whores.

Ancient items could become contraband, as the government might claim them. In the United States IIRC, if you find something more than 1000 years old, or some such age, it's automatically government property (so if you find a cache of indian pottery, don't plan on selling it)

Weapons are an obvious one. Many feudal societies tried to control what the civilian population had access to.

components to magical formulae. They should at least have a required licence.
