SuperPheemy
While reading the DEX/Marvel thread, I went back to working on a small table of flavor text for use in my own Champs games. I'm using these descriptors to help familiarize new players to what the numbers mean. And since I'm in need of cheap rep and attention, I've decided to inflict my work on the boards. Values for STR and PRE Poor - <8 Typical - 8-14 Gifted - 15-19 Extraordinary - 20-24 Legendary - 25-29 Remarkable - 30-39 Incredible - 40-49 Unbelievable - 50-59 Amazing - 60-74 Mythic - 75-99 Cosmic - 100+ Values for CON, BODY, INT, EGO, and COM Poor - <8 Typical - 8-12 Gifted - 13-14 Extraordinary - 15-17 Legendary - 18-19 Remarkable - 20-24 Incredible - 25-29 Unbelievable - 30-34 Amazing - 35-42 Mythic - 43-54 Cosmic - 55+ Values for DEX Poor - <8 Typical - 8-11 Gifted - 12-13 Extraordinary - 14 Legendary - 15-16 Remarkable - 17-19 Incredible - 20-23 Unbelievable - 24-26 Amazing - 27-31 Mythic - 32-39 Cosmic - 40+ Damage Classes Poor - 1 Typcial - 2 Gifted - 3 Extraordinary - 4 Legendary - 5 Remarkable - 6-7 Incredible - 8-9 Unbelievable - 10-11 Amazing - 12-14 Mythic - 15-19 Cosmic 20+ Defense Poor - <3 Typical - 4-5 Gifted - 6-8 Extraordinary - 9-10 Legendary - 11-13 Remarkable - 14-18 Incredible - 19-23 Unbelievable - 24-28 Amazing - 29-35 Mythic - 36-48 Cosmic - 49+ Combat Values Poor - <3 Typical - 3 Gifted - 4 Extraordinary - 5 Legendary - 6 Remarkable - 7 Incredible - 8 Unbelievable - 9 Amazing - 10 Mythic - 11-12 Cosmic - 13+ Of course, these tables were inspired by the old FASERIP Marvel Superheroes game, with a few tweaks to adjectives and some modification to increase it's granularity. Most of the Primary Characteristics are derived from their cost multiple, but others (Notibly INT and COM) are placed in tables to better reflect their use in the Champions Universe. For example, the Highest COM value I could find in CKC is Menton at a very sexy 30. If I were to use the value as-is, the best looking guy on the Planet is "Remarkable", by putting COM in with CON and BODY, his looks become "Unbelievable" and frees up more descriptors below. Anyway, these tables are intended to be very General, and don't take into account variables like power modifiers, or ability combinations. In using these tables, I am not altering the NCM, so the Olympic Weightlifter has Legendary STR while the Olympic Gymnast's DEX is Incredible. I've also attatched the Excel file for ease of printing. zornwil
Re: Descriptors and Benchmarks (LONG) I like things like that. It sounds like Fuzion, too, of course, but I thought that was cool about Fuzion, actually. Depending on the game, my scale would change a lot, but this is a good one. Mister E
Re: Descriptors and Benchmarks (LONG) I think "Benchmarks" are vitally important in the creation, (and maintenance), of a campaign. The players need to be able to consistently understand what exactly the numbers mean, in order to have a solid grasp of the elements their characters are composed of. It might be further helpful to you, if you came up with brief descriptions of the graduated quantifications, in order to really "nail" them in everyone's minds, possibly including your own. (The differences between Remarkable, Incredible, and Amazing seems vague, to me, for instance.) This is just me, but I think your Combat Values are a little low. (This is because I like to give Capt. America a DEX of 25-30, and 5+ CSL's... which on your scale, would put him in the Cosmic level. If your scaling of such characters is much lower than mine, then you are totally correct in your current numbers, and I recall my lame critique ). AS A SIDE NOTE: I am strangly found of the qualification of Cosmic. It is a state of existence and ability, that falls in with a kind of God-like:Finiteness, that is pretty much solely found in the comic-book mythos. Acknowledging that Mythic is something less than Cosmic, is significant, to me. EDIT: I would also like to note, that I have created several lists, just like this one. I'm sure most people here have. This is very much metaphorical of Adam's responsibility to 'name' all of the creatures in the world. Biologists' need to classify varient life-forms, using Taxonomy, is also pretty much the same thing. Could this quality of man be a fundimental aspect of our nature? Sure it is. Why am I rambling about all this? Because it's late, and I'm tired.
Evil102
Re: Descriptors and Benchmarks (LONG) Here's the ranges I gave to my players at the start of the campaign, to give them an idea of what level of attribute was appropriate for their character concept (I had several players new to Hero). And, of course, so that I'd remember the ballparks when I made up the bad guys... The values will probably seem a little low, as we play a low-end attribute game.
