  1. I also strongly encourage PCs to take Contact: (my Tuath) as an Organizational Contact. Using Clans and Clan Ties in Tuala Morn helps to reinforce the Celtic feel of the setting and gives PCs both resources and obligations that can lead to more adventures. Being Clanless would be a pretty strong Social Complication (I'd say Frequently and Major to Severe consequences). Even Druids and Bards should benefit from strong clan ties.

  4. I use a lot of the magic system from Valdorian age. The Bestiary and Monsters Minions and Marauders.
  5. I really believe that a new edition of Fantasy HERO needs a small setting, like say a County or Fiefdom from the Turakian Age to provide context for the game presented in the book. Something geared towards new players that is friendly to off-the-shelf play. Even for those groups that enjoy playing in their own world-creations, a small setting fragment can assist with direction on how to use the HERO system when designing campaigns. The small setting focus can also be worked into the introductory scenarios, and GMs and groups can easily expand on them. This could also become a selling point for a revised Turakian Age release. Heck. I'd even like to see an update of Valdorian Age, Atlantean Age and Tuala Morn, even if only as .pdf supplements
  6. Re: Egg McGuffin Myrmydon would give the Egg (in his mind "prize") to niether Officer until they proved their worth in combat, either against each other or with him. During any fight, Myrmydon would be guaging their sense of honor and Justice in they way they handle themselves. Should one prove worthy in his eyes, and if he can determine if the Egg does truly belong to that individual, he would hand it over. Sun Knight would have studied the egg as thoroughly as possible considering it's extraterrestrial origins. When confronting the "officers" he would aak many questions to determine where they are from in the Galaxy and which one (if either) truly represents The Law. Incarnate, being completely out of her depth would consult with the minds of those who passed before her for advice and direction.

  10. Re: Western Hero: Jonah Hex movie Well, his name is Jonah Hex.... They got the facial visuals right (except Jonah's hair is blonde, and his right eye is lidless, but I can forgive those details)... It's set in the Fantasy Action/Adventure Old West, so the violence will fit. The gadgets are brand-spankin' new, but hey, a horse with twin mounted miniguns and a repaeating dynamite pistol crossbow.. What's not to like? I'll be happy to go see it. It looks like a fun summer movie. Just keep telling yourself that in this story, Jonah Hex is a superhero.

  12. Re: Storn Idea to full picture Year 7 I propose a cosmic-level character that I have sitting in my stable of heroes. Background/History: ZeQindiEL has been known by countless names over countless ages. To the Mesoamericans, it was the one of the Divine Feathered Serpents, to the Hebrew people, it was on of God's Angels, to the Ancient Fex it was part of the Circle of Galiru. As magic waxed and waned in the Universe, ZeQindiEL's direct influence likewise ebbed and flowed. In the 31st Century, the Klovel Event returned and supernatural power returned to the Universe in a flood. The High Divinities understood that the time was again right for an agent to return to the lives of mortals and help guide their destiny. Thus, they again turned to ZeQindiEL to shepherd the mortals they love so dearly. Personality/Motiviation: ZeQindiEL is a Divine Being, an inhabitant of Heaven and a shepherd of mortal souls. It's purpose is to lead mortals to lives of virtue and afterlives in paradise. In its current incarnation, it has chosen the mantle of one of the new superheroes of this Galactic age, and will guide as an example of virtue and heroism. ZeQindiEL is a resolute being, certain in its own mind of the rightness of its cause and the Glory seeded within the souls of sentient beings and mortals throughout the Galaxy. Likewise, while forgiving of minor transgressions and understanding the limits of the mortal soul, it is uncompromising in its struggle against Evil and those unredeemable spirits which seek to tempt and drag mortal souls away from the Divine. Powers/Tactics: In the hierarchy of the Heavens, ZeQindiEL is still just a Minor Deity, but from a mortal perspective, it wields tremendous power. It can assume the form of any Mortal being it chooses, or reveal its true nature as a being of near-perfect Glory. Its voice carries the authority and weight of the High Divinities, and its physical body is immortal and adapted to exist in almost any environment. ZeQindiEL's divine power is very adaptable and protean, and can manifest in nearly any manner ZeQindiEL wishes, from healing to telepathy to telekinesis or simply bolts of Divine Power. Campaign Use: ZeQindiEL is a direct representative of the High Divinities, and as such is an example of the philosophical ideal of a Hero. It is a combination of Chaplain and Crusader. Its power may not be as great in any single given area as its fellow superheroes (for example, ZeQindiEL can channel its power into physical strength, and become quite strong even by Galactic Standards, but there are many superbeings who are much stronger by nature) but it can adapt its power to nearly any situation, thus being able to support its companions in creative and indirect ways. Appearance: In its Divine Form, ZeQindiEL combines elements of many creatures and archetypes which are at once unique and strangely familiar to anyone who witnesses it. Having existed for the long Aeons of Creation and touched almost every civilization which has arisen, its body reflects the visions of all those peoples and their conceptions of what they understand as "Divine". Unless it uses its power to suppress the effect, ZeQindiEL is normally surrounded by a golden aura of light. Quote "Thy villainous ways can only lead to destruction and despair. Turn thy face back to the Light and free thy soul from the tyranny of wickedness!" I'll leave most of the visual details up to the Tribble and Storn, but the challenge this character poses is to create an image of power, glory and mercy without relying on the traditions of any single culture. ZeQindiEL is not a robed, winged Herald singing the praises of a bearded old man sitting on a throne in the sky. Being from the Galactic Champions setting, the character can be pushed further by contrasting its spiritual concept against the backdrop of Space and Super-Science.
  13. Re: CHAMPIONS UNIVERSE: What Do *You* Want To See? I'd like to see a little more fleshing out of Government Superhuman Programs like Project: Sunburst. What happened to those scientists and Project Directors who survived the various origin stories of the supervillains they helped to create? Where has the research and technology drifted to? (VIPER? ARGENT? the IHA?) And maybe a sidebar bringing up similar programs from other countries. I'd also be very interested in some non-American settings and perhaps a fictional country that has had effects on the CU. Oh, and Xenovores
  14. Re: Physical might: Strongest characters in comics and other media, and benchmarks I'm gonna have to go with Big Green here. His displays of strength are (dare I say..) subtle when compared to planet-moving, time-stream-punching, or other similar example which can be pulled from the thousands of years of mythology and fantastic tales. But what Hulk is written as doing is always pushing the limits of what he was established to do. Thor's Hammer, only lifted by the worthy? Hulk drags it from the ground, and gives everyone a shock. He punches Onslaught so hard that it shatters it into a being of pure psychic energy. Or in other words, there literally is no upper limit to the Hulk's strength as the character is defined. Now, Hulk's baseline strength, like when he's running with the Banner Persona dominant, is simply really *really* strong. In the league with Thor or Martian Manhunter. So when he's "STRONGEST THERE IS", we're talking about his might becoming a plot device. The same really can be said for almost any hero who's defining characteristic is strength though. The only real benchmark comparison I can make in this instance is that Hulk and Superman have tangled more than a few times in situations where they're representative of their respective Universe's definition of unbridled strength. In these fights, it's well established that Superman is stronger than Hulk, until Hulk gets too angry at which point even Superman realizes that the Hulk will indeed become stronger. I'll extrapolate this a bit, because Superman has had more crossovers than Hulk between different companies, and in those instances, it's acknowledged that Superman is the strongest character in the room, so by that scale, the Hulk can grow stronger than those characters as well. But we are going into a "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" type of argument here. All of these characters have been written at times so strong that the writer has had to if not make up terminology, at least think of really-super-big-scientific-numbers to describe how awesomely strong the character in question is. In the end is Superman's press of 200 Quintillion Tons that much less or more than Goku when his power goes "over 12,000!!!"?

Got 5 extra points by changing "In love with Janet Van Dyne" to "Obsessed with Janet Van Dyne", and added an Enraged tied to his machismo. And, of course the Marvel Standard 3d6 Unluck because the editors love to have really bad things happen to their characters with every. single. story-arc.
  19. Re: Single Most Powerful Super Hero EVER!!! The Force of Nature restriction does get a little fuzzy at times. There are many instances of powerful heroes and villains becoming such for entire story arcs. Thor and the Odinforce comes to mind. Doctor Fate, Doctor Doom, and Doctor Strange have flirted with "Ultimate Cosmic POWAAAAR" many many times (and even Doom has given up such power voluntarily on a few occasions). Superman and the Hulk have both become so strong as to shake the foundations of the Universe. On the Flip Side, the Beyonder was ultimately revealed to be an immature Cosmic Cube who needed the Molecule Man to become complete (and somehow in doing so became *less* powerful, go fig.)
  20. Re: Single Most Powerful Super Hero EVER!!! Pretty much every cosmically powerful, force of nature superbeing has been defeated/ undone by a "mere mortal" at one time or another. How many times has Batman outwitted or neutralized Superman? That's simply because the story of a mortal defeating the Gods is compelling, much more so than the story of God smashes Mortal Hero in One Page The End.

True he never gets to oppose someone with superpowers, but I think we can extrapolate from the source material. He controls matter at a level similar to the theories behind Hoson-Biggs and the SuperForce. (By the way... "Hoson-Biggs and the SuperForce" would make an AWESOME Saturday Morning Cartoon show!)

I think his power is only limited by the writers' understanding of the Universe. Or in other words, he is so powerful that his ability is limited by the language available to describe how his power works.
  23. Re: WWII Dark Reich Hero German soldiers in the 1939 Blitzkrieg of Poland? That has so much potential for great storytelling! You can explore the disillusionment of your characters as the Nationalist fervor builds with early victories, then slowly fades away in the face of paranoia, defeat, and a seemingly endless war. The glory of victory in Paris can be stripped away with a tour in the horrors of Russia, only to return to fight a long, bitter defense in the face of the Western Offensives. All the while, the madness and evil that was so well concealed in Berlin during the 30s is slowly stripped bare until it affects everyone and everything the Reich touches. A campaign I would think that is definitely not for kids.
  24. Re: New players, gm, UMA Charge and 34d6 damage Assuming he could unload a 34d6 attack with his Move Through. Said character is going to take half or all that damage back depending on if he achieves knockback. We'll give the benefit of the doubt and knock DS back appropriately. Still the attacker is eating half of the damage he rolls on 34 dice. Or roughly 60 STUN/ 18 BODY which is usually enough to stun most starting heroes, even the bricks. Which is the danger of relying on the Move-Through for big handfulls of dice.
