Mark Rand
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey I'm confused. Are you saying you're going to use a map of Burke Lakefront Airport for the pocket universe? Or that Burke Lakefront Airport has been moved to a pocket universe? Or that the pocket universe has access to Burke Lakefront Airport as well as to Wayne Manor? Neither. There are many parallel universes. In some, human life has died out. An extra-dimentional race, known only as the builders, uses these locations from these worlds to build pocket universes that mages have access to. These worlds are cleaned of all pathogens. They made one Earth's Burke Lakefront Airport the central point of the pocket universe that Batman has access to. They added a hotel (from Washington state) and a lighthouse. They also added a Japanese garden (from Springfield, Missouri), a synagogue (I'm Jewish), and other things.

Sounds like these "builders" have an...interesting methodology. Bit of a grab-bag, isn't it. "Let's see what else we can shove in here. Hey, I know! Here's a bed&breakfast I just happen to have lying around. Ooo! And here's a world-famous art museum. They'll go together real well. Like that Atlantis, it would have a central tower with six lobes surrounding it. The central lobe would be a mile high observation tower. Only what's described here would be visible from it. Lobe one would be Burke Lakefront Airport. The Batplane and Batcopter would be berthed here, and their shop would be here, too. Lobe two would be a marina with plenty of dock space and gas pumps. The Batboat would be berthed here. Here, too are the lighthouse, a boatyard, a chandler (sells marine supplies), a bar, a coffee shop, and a convenience store. Breakwaters surround the area. They form a gate to and from the pocket universe for the Batboat. Lobe three would be a residential/commercial neighborhood. The synagogue would be here, as would a convenience store, dojo, gymnastics school, homes, and other places found in such neighborhoods. Lobe four would be public gardens. Lobe five would be a Western goods store and a place to ride horses. Lobe six would be a cemetary and crematorium.
Mark Rand
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey I actually found a map of Cleveland around the Burke Lakefront Airport. Since it's copyright 2006 by Rand McNally & Company and NAVTEQ, I'm not going to post it here. I will, however, refer to it. The airport itself is surrounded on three sides by Lake Erie and on the fourth side by Marginal Road/Cleveland Memorial Shoreway. According to the map, Conrail tracks are nearby, as are the Cleveland Browns Stadium and Cleveland State University. There is also what appears to be a pier near 9th Street. (The airport runways run from 12th Street to 38th Street and there is an area without runways from 38th Street to 53rd Street.) When the area was examined by Batman and Batgirl, the hotel, airport, and pier were what they were mainly interested in. (The synagogue, lighthouse, and Japanese garden were thrown in by me for good measure.)
CSgeekHero
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey Cleveland??? Pittsburgh doesn't need anything from Cleveland...well except two easy wins each football season.

I chose Burke Lakefront Airport because it and Van Nuys are the only two general aviation airports I know of outside Pittsburgh and it is more suitable than Van Nuys for what I need. Mark Rand
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey A bit about Pittsburgh. The city has many bridges. Four are of interest to us. The first is the Smithfield Street Bridge, which spans the Monongahela River. The others are the Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Street Bridges which span the Allegheny River. (The Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Street bridges have been renamed in memory of Roberto Clemente, Andy Warol, and Rachel Carson respectively.) In the campaign, all three are drawbridges, with the deck of the Smithfield Street Bridge one meter lower than the decks of the others. The Batboat comes out of the pocket universe from a gateway in the southern pier of the Smithfield Street Bridge. Said gateway works only for it. How many people, total? Sounds like a lot of NPCs. Glad you like the setting. Since it's a pocket universe created by the builders, there aren't a lot of NPCs, just bodys to cremate. Of course, they'll be looked over, just in case they're wearing something that's usable as part of a disguise.

I meant, if the "new owners" want to get all those very useful services "back on line," how many people would that take? Roughly estimated is AOK. No doubt they will be aided by whatever liaisons the government sends them, plus whatever family members come with them. As far as the federal grew goes, I'm thinking the official liaison from the Commission on Superhuman Affairs (the DOSPA in the CU). His second wife who is a trauma surgeon (his first wife died of cancer) and his daughter who converted to Islam and is a computer expert came with him. Unofficial liaisons come from the FBI, Homeland Security, and SHIELD (PRIMUS in the CU). The FBI liaison is like Roger Fox from the Fox Trot comic strip. Either the Homeland Security or SHIELD liaison is a dedicated man who brought his wife, a nurse, with him. The other is a beautiful woman who did black bag jobs for the CIA for four years. Superskrull
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey Lobe four would be public gardens. Y'know, technically speaking, those are private gardens. This being a pocket universe used by a privacy-minded masked crimefighter and all. Lobe six would be a cemetary and crematorium. Ah, those'll be handy for those oh-so-awkward corpses already left lying around the flotsam of dead universes. Of course now I find myself wanting to make jokes about Jason Todd Memorial Cemetary and this Batman hasn't even gotten off the ground, career-wise. You've got a commercial airport, a marina "with plenty of dock space and gas pumps" and a chandler, a crematorium - - - and you're running all that with two vigilantes/superheroes, a couple of house servants, four pencil-pushers, and a nurse? No way that's enough support staff! Note: I'm assuming you let lobes 3, 4, and 5 go to waste! Wow, that's gonna come back and bite 'em on the a** someday. After all, who knows what's growing in those "gardens".

Mark Rand
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey At one point, Phil pointed out that this is very un Batman-like. True. It's a crazy idea, but one that I think is cool. Of course, I could've gone with Nightman and Nightgirl. Let's see. He's Daniel Masters, CEO and Chairman of the Board of a Pittsburgh-based multinational corporation that's involved in helping the city. She's Barbara Cain, his live-in secretary and, reputed, lover. They share a large two-story penthouse apartment with Donna Smith, Daniel's live-in maid.

Mark Rand
Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey IRL, Pittsburgh will be finally getting a slots casino in the near future. In the game, I might give the city a hotel/casino near the Mellon Arena, where the Pittsburgh Penguins play Danny would be CEO and Chairman of the Board of the company that owns it, the Pens, and the new Arena. He, Barbara, and Donna would live in the hotel's penthouse apartment. Oh, Barbara's name comes from Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain.
