Ninja Hero PBEM: Warriors of Yengtao

Yeng Tao temple has existed in almost complete secrecy for 1000s of thousands of years. Behind its ancients walls and on its vast training grounds some of most powerful warriors of the martial world have honed their craft to perfection. Its libaries hold stores of estoretic marital arts wisdom like the world has never seen. Fighting styles that no longer exist anywhere else can be found among its scrolls and libaries. The monks themselves maintain a strict neutrality in regards to the affrairs of the outside world. Anyone of sufficent skill and honor can come to the Temple and learn regardless of nationality, ethnic background or gender (though being from Imperial China the monks do have some interesting ideas about women) this, combined with fighting prowess of its occupants have maintained the Temple of peaceful seclusion for millennia, right into the modern era.

 

That peace was recently shattered when the demononligist Shang Fung and the criminal Shadowlaw Group descended on the temple along with a small army of soldiers and Fung's summoned demons. The battle was fierce but thee temples defenses were breached along enough for Fung to make his way into the inner sanctum and complete an infernal pact. As his demonic masters the Yama Kings had bid him the Sorcerer used his mystical skills to undo the Great Dragon Seal, an ancient artifact that sealed the Yama Kings in their demonic Hells. With the Seal broken, demons could now enter the Earth Realm. The invaders were repelled but not before they stolen several powerful relics and scrolls, Shadowlaw's wage for the assistance

 

This is where the player characters come in. Each of you, having just passed the traditional trials to enter the Temple arrive in that aftermath of this brutal attack. After being informed of the potential horrific consequences of the sorcerers actions and the power of the missing artifacts, the Monks humbly request the heroes regain the items and try to undo the damage that will result from the broken Seal while they attempt to repair it; thus the campaign begins

 

The setting is a modern day action movie/anime type world, but the character could be from others time and realms thanks to magic and the timeless "Xanadu" like nature of the temple.

Normal Characteristic Maxima: Required but for full points.

Technology: Normal Tech requires no points.

Damage Classes: 8-10 with up to 14 for "Final Attacks"

Speed: 6 Maximum

Defeenses:25 Normal 12 Resistant

Skill rolls: 16-

 

Final Attacks must have at least -1 worth of Limitations with

1 Charge required.

Special effects: The character assumes a low stance as he cups his hands together drawing in a deep breath to assist in focusing chi energy drawn from his entire being and their earth itself. This energy takes the form a crimson lightning the crackles along the character tensing muscles and focuses between his palms. When it reaches its maximum he thrusts forward, palms out and fingers curled; screams the name of the attack and unleashes the full force of its gathered energy in a wave of coruscating fiery red and black energy. This attack, while effective is extremely draining and only highly skilled Master may try it miore than once a day and even then it leaves the user vulnerable physically and spiritually as well since it calls on unwholesome forces for its power. Only two warriors are known to use it on a regular basis. Akano Hadaki and his daughter, Keiko both whom share a common tie to the demonic Yama Kings.

 

*This means that attack draws on demonic or evil energies that can have a damaging cumulative effect on the character's soul, mind and body such as opening them to spiritual corroption, warping their features or even subjecting them to outright demonic oossesion if badly botched. The least effect is Inauspicious Fate. where the character's destiny is corrupted or tied to evil in some fashion such as Akano's Daughter Keiko being born with demon blood.

I have to wonder, are you soliciting players for this PBEM because you didn't get enough applications for Hell World to start that up?

 

It would be an interesting decision - get in on the ground floor of what you may actually run, or hold out for the next campaign idea you'll be trying

HOE is will be run and this one as well. Just have to make the final player selection for Yengtao.
