Nexus: Concerning the Missile Deflection...

Recommended Posts

I saw the question you asked Steve about essentially catching the weapon. Now I'll admit I was a little perplexed by his answer since I clearly recall such fantabulous items as the Spell Catching Rope from Fantasy Hero.

It was basically a delayed effect on reflection/trigger, I was hoping Steve could clarify how it had been done previously.

It was a rope you would block spells with and when successfull, a knot would appear on the rope. If the knot was loosened and the rope snapped, the knot became undone and the spell was released.

It was a very clever variation on the concept of "reflect to any target"

If I recall properly it was missile reflection and they had but "trigger" on the "reflect to any target" portion of the power.

If anyone else recalls, feel free to jump in.

Re: Nexus: Concerning the Missile Deflection...

I'm a bit confused by Steve's answer as well. I think he's missunderstading the work "keep" to mean keeping it forever as part of the character, like when you take a gun away from the thug you don't get to take ownership of it. I'm sure Nexus was just wanting to know if the character could then use the item in a later Phase to throw at someone else, or use in HTH combat if applicable, and then get rid of like he would any other Focus taken away from another character.

As to the Spell Catching Rope thingy, I have no idea. I don't have FH or any of the related books.

Re: Nexus: Concerning the Missile Deflection...

Nexus, I think the adder is the way to go. I'm sure this has been discussed before. It's such a simple solution to analogize Block in HTH to Missile Deflection at range that I can't figure out why this rule has never been implemented.

Actually, I'm inclined to take it one step further, and make Missile Deflection allow Block to be used against ranged, as well as HTH, attacks. You could then have a further adder to allow the attack to be reflected, but only at a target in HTH range, and add Range to the reflection with yet another Adder.

Characters could then block both ranged and HTH attacks without the kludge of a Triggered Missile Deflection.
