Great Beyond Posted July 16, 2006 Report Share Posted July 16, 2006 Ok, here's a widget from season 27/1 of Doctor Who that I thought would be fun to number crunch into hero terms: Psychic paper - a piece of paper that shows whoever is reading it whatever the holder wants them to see, but also has the disadvantage of revealing private thoughts if the user lets their mind wander. It has also shown the ability to display telepathic messages from sources external to the user (like the Face of Boe in New Earth). Torchwood Institute personnel receive psychic training and are able to see through psychic paper (Army of Ghosts). It is also shown to somehow unlock an electronic pass reader. So - how would you do this? I imagine that Images through a focus seems most likely. How would you do the "must remain attentive, and not hit on Captain Jack" disad? Mental illusions seems more likely - it works telepathically, and the image seems to only appear in the mind of the viewer. Hard to say. How about a bonus to Disguise, IAF? It's either a low die Mental Illusion or Mind Control, OAF, with a limited effect ("These Papers Show That This Person Is Who He Claims" works as a set effect, but he gets away with a bit more than that). It has a resisted Skill (Psionics) roll, with the side effect of Telepathy on the user by the target if the psionics roll contest is lost (displaying the results of the telepathic scan is SFX). Several skills are also puchased through the paper (Security Systems: Computer, Computer Programing: Hacking Only) to get past data card readers and such. Torchwood employees probably have a few points of Mental Defense or a Psionics Skill, allowing them to fight back. Rose spent a few points on the skill before she started using the paper.
