Re: Telegram Cablegram images

There is a Call of Cthulu character generator called Byakhee that can be found at

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Haven/4173/

It has a telegraph document that you can use. And it's free.

I've come across it before. I have a telegram template I got years ago that I can use to generate a fake Western Union message. But I run games that take place outside the US and would reallly like to create a few other headers. To do so I need to see some of them. I have located names of several other Tele/Cable gram companies from the 20-30's, but images of the actual forms have been elusive.

Re: Telegram Cablegram images

I'm not sure if you want a "send" message or "received" message, so here's one of both from NSW. Both pre-date the 20s/30s but I don't think there would be much change in the interim, particulalry the received message which as can be seen, is from WWI. The "send" form is from the 1890's, and for that reason is missing any reference to "Commonwealth of Australia", which would have been added after 1 Jan 1901.

I would expect most Commonwealth countries to use similar forms, if that helps.

Re: Telegram Cablegram images

Here's the Royal mail links.

http://http://www.postalheritage.org.uk/

Stuck away in here are copies of forms and history of the Royal Mail

http://www.postalheritage.org.uk/learning/teachers/freeresources/pennyblack/gallery/communications/blanktelegram?searchterm=telegram%20form

This is a generic form.

http://www.postalheritage.org.uk/learning/teachers/freeresources/pennyblack/gallery/communications/telegram

This is something from teh 1830's.

The search function is wierd, I got these by searching on "Blank telegraph form". I hope this helps you.

Both are excellent

Re: Telegram Cablegram images

CoC players have been making these for years. Let me find my links.

Links to telegram forms:

http://www.asmrb.org/michaelb/CthulhuForms.html

A list of telegram images - I bookmarked this one for exactly the purpose of downloading the pictures and "cleaning" them to use as props:

And, finally, Retro-Gram offers printed telegrams. I haven't tried their offerings, but they look authentic:

http://www.retro-gram.com/index.html

Good luck!

Re: Telegram Cablegram images

I realized why I couldn't find the site I was originally looking for - it seems to be offline. Fortunately, there's the Internet Archive:

http://web.archive.org/web/20041010013904/www.cthulhulives.org/toybox/PROPDOCS/FreeProps.html

If any of the free pdfs you want aren't available, let me know - I think I've got all the freebies.

Cool site. I think I remember seeing it before, but could never find it again. I may try their contact info and see if they still put out the disc's.

I am going to tinker tonight and see if I generate my own template based on some of the pics. I think I am going to use a hand wave and instead of an actual street address on the grams that have them, I will just use city, country/state/etc. For the US this won't be a problem for me, but for other countries I will just use some of my old maps and rely on none of my players ever having been there.

If any of them turn out I will post them for critique and general use.
