Generally referred to as the paragene (mostly due to her love of bad puns), these are nearly impossible to screen for, but are generally what makes some people, when exposed to certain stimuli, develop superhuman powers. The theories are unproven, the gene has never been isolated and the scientific community is at odds over her findings. However the media has taken it and run with it. This possibly explains why, instead of being vaporized when he leaped in the path of an errant beam of cosmic destruction heading for his baby brother, Bruce simply fell into a coma. While in the Good Samaritan Medical Center, Bruce's body began to change. Within two weeks he was released, but changed. It would have made for an interesting, "How I spent my summer vacation" his freshman year in high school. But now that he is 6'6'' and appears to be a fully grown adult, Bruce's parents have taken him from school, moved to the other side of the country and have entrusted their son's education to special tutors while he receives training, guidance, and supervision from the local super team. Though the Centurions were reluctant at first to take the responsibility, Colossus has proven himself a stalwart member of the team. Personality/Motivation: Colossus is having a blast. While his parents are concerned that their son is endangering himself; they haven't forbade him from puting his power to good use. He occasionally misses his friends and doing typical 14 year old things, but it's hard to be unhappy when you get to live a dream and fight evil with your heroes. Not to mention the attention he gets from attractive women. (But he's VERY closely watched by his teammates and his mom in this regard). Bruce has adjusted to his transformation by emulating his fellow heroes (though some of them aren't much more mature than a 14 year old), chatting and gaming online with his friends back home (most of whom know his secret) and staying away from reporters, super-villainesses, and groupies. In that order. Quote: Powers/Tactics: The Centurions are an established team with a very consistent roster, and a leader who stresses teamwork and preparedness. As a result of this, Colossus works very well with others (teamwork skill), has a few standard maneuvers (the Sweep Bonus), and is very aware of his environment. He is the least experienced (and has the least points) of the Centurions and hero worships the team. Thus he tends to follow direction. On his own he can be more damaging to the area as he tries to "wing it". Campaign Use: Colossus is a neophyte hero. He's got some experience but he's at standard starting level (350pts) mostly spent on characteristics and powers. He could be used as filler for a new team, or with a bit of work he could be transformed into a teen hero discovering his powers. Appearance: Even in his normal form, Bruce has been transformed. He appears to be a large, very muscular man in his lat twenties or early thirties. He looks (not surprisingly) like a perfect version of his father, (to which he won't admit to). His hair is black and his eyes are blue. His costume consists of a brown muscle shirt with no sleeves, a black metallic breastplate, arm bands, gauntlets, belt, and boots. He wears a brown kilt (for lack of a better word) and black bike shorts under that. He also wears a black, spiked headpiece that resembles the one on the Rhodes Colossus and the Statue of Liberty. Enforcer84
Re: CHAR: Colossus (Not Marvel) I considered naming him Bruce Rhodes. But that was a bit too leading. He's a nod to Marvel's Rage.
Hermit
Re: CHAR: Colossus (Not Marvel) Very cool. I like growth power characters, but they do seem sort of short changed (Pun intended) sometimes ESPECIALLY if you allow called shots rules. I like growth power characters' date=' but they do seem sort of short changed (Pun intended) sometimes ESPECIALLY if you allow called shots rules.[/quote'] I like him tons also (pun also intended) and I agree about Growth getting short changed. We have had multiple players, myself included, try to run Growth based characters with varying degrees of disatisfaction. We are currently debating whether powers linked to growth should get a full -1/2 bonus (as opposed to -1/4 for being linked to a constant power) as in our games, getting to use your full growth is uncommon. [Please note that we enforce the rule that frameworks and multiple powers in a framework cannot be linked to a power outside a framework.] We also sometimes allow Side Effects to be taken on growth related powers to represent the drawbacks and collateral damage that are usually associated (and often enforced) with growth. The reasoning for the above is to allow characters to spend more points on things that are useable when their growth is not.
BNakagawa
Re: CHAR: Colossus (Not Marvel) Rough to play a character like this in any game, called shots or no. Well, pretty unplayable with called shots. One thing I like for humungous characters is to buy damage reduction against anything that isn't area effect or from a large opponent. Getting punched by a giant robot should hurt colossus. Getting shot by a bullet shouldn't. 30/30 defenses backed by 59 stun seems like a lot, but when you're getting hit by everybody and their brother, it doesn't last all that long. I may adopt that if I ever run a growth character.
