Background/History: The youngest son of "Galactic Patrol" agents, Vanguard (actually his title, not his name, his name is I'n (or Ian)) was something of a disappointment. His brother Dan'l was a very successful and popular Vanguard; and Ian often felt like he couldn't escape the shadow his brother cast. He was rebellious and difficult. His natural ability allowing him to succeed where his undisciplined and lax methodology should have caused him to fail.

This didn't endear him to his superiors. When Dan'l was killed in the line of duty, something snapped in Ian. He had always felt he'd never be anyhting while his brother was around but now...Dan'l was gone and he'd never see him again.

Ashamed, Ian suddenly became a model Vanguard. He worked hard, and rededicated himself to his life. Unfortunately, it was in the eyes of some, too little too late. Ian was assigned to Earth, a world of limited space travel and a curious dimensional nexus, but nothing more. It was seen as a punishment, not an assignment. Ian went reluctantly.

He observed the Sol system from afar for two years, learning about Earth by watching television (the Alien way!) and training. He was thrust into action when his station was discovered and attacked by agents of the former Soviet Union. Once on Earth he had a series of misadventures that often found him in contact with a reporter named Roxanne Wells. Eventually they began a relationship and Ian as Vanguard joined the ranks of Earth's Defenders.

Personality/Motivation: Vanguard is a noble, heroic young man with something of an ego, an "act first, think later" attitude and a chip on his shoulder. He was bummed about being assigned to Earth, because it was considered boring. Then he was delighted to find that things were happening all the time.

Quote:

Powers/Tactics: Hit it. Hit it again.

Campaign Use:

Appearance: Vanguard's race are white skinned humanoids with with pointed ears, antennae and pronounced ridges over their eyes. They are also larger and stronger than humans to a great degree. Vanguard's suit is blue with red trunks, boots, gloves, and helmet.

Re: Vanguard

Never heard of him. Where did he appear?

And I don't like Psi-Scramblers!

Vanguard appeared in an 80's early 90's independent comic anthology called Megaton. The main character, Megaton was a former child actor given superpowers by a scientist; the process working for him only because he had been born with two hearts. (a previous subject who had an extra chamber proved flawed and had to wear a special chest plate to regulate the serum), Megaton was super strong, tough, and regenerated. He had a couple of "Flight Bracers" also invented by said scientist. it was pretty cool.

Vangaurd showed up in back up stories and was a creation of the author and one of his artist buddies, a guy named Erik Larsen. It was in the Vanguard strips that Savage Dragon first appeared. It was also done when Larsen was copying John Byrne's art style and not Todd McFarlane. I can't stand his art now. But I always like the character.

I suspect if the spirit moves me I will write up Wally (He is silmilar to Skeets of Booster Gold Fame); Roxanne is an atypical "Reporter Girlfriend".
