New Uses for Ego

Cardinal

Recommended Posts

I remember someone coming up with a couple of ideas on how Ego could be modified for use in a game. For example:

a) Allow a character to take a +0 advantage, Based on EGO. The CV would then be based on ECV but target normal DCV, with range mods, etc. Basically a way to model the idea that a mentalist's TK should be based on will (or for a GL type figure);

B) Allow character to use higher of CON and EGO to determine if they are stunned (to avoid mentalist characters having 23 CONs just to be effective).

I can't find the threads now. Does anyone know which threads I am thinking about?

Has anyone used rules like this in the past? What was the impact on game play?

Thanks

Re: New Uses for Ego

The value of EGO very much varies with campaign: in a realistic heroic level campaign it is probably too expensive and a few freebies could even things out.

One way to beef up EGO, without expanding the system, is simply to use it to build powers with, using RSR:

Tough it out: +10 CON No figured -1/2, only to avoid stunning -1/4, RSR: Ego roll -1/2

20 points / (1+1.25) = 9 of your Earth points.

Finding the strength: +10 STR No figured -1/2, only for lifting -1, RSR: Ego roll -1/2

10 points / (1+2) = 3 of your Earth points.

Perfect focus: 1 overall skill level RSR: Ego roll = 7 of your Earth points

I'm just saying you can make Ego more use for a character that has a high Ego, even in a setting where Ego is not used for much - it might well allow you access to all sorts of things at a reduced price that might be difficult to explain in a game where powers are not usually allowed.
