The Ultimate Smart Alec

Just for fun, I'd like to ask this question:

 

How would you use the HERO System powers, talents, and skills (and also disadvantages) to create a smart alec/wise guy?

 

Below is an explanation of what the smart alec is.

 

A smart alec is "an obnoxiously self-assertive and impudent person" according to most dictionaries. As a character/personality type, the smart alec is someone who gets by on his wits and sense of humor, often driving others to make mistakes for easy exploitation. A combat example might be mocking someone into going berserk and forgetting their tactics, exposing a weak spot for the smart alec to strike and incapacitate the foe. Generally, a smart alec needs to be able to hold his/her own when the wits aloner don't work, so this type is definitely in need of crossover.

 

Examples of "heroic" smart alecs in the informal definition: Bugs Bunny (in some of his (IMHO) better cartoons...), Spider Man (at least in the 1990s animated series)

 

So, what builds would make the ultimate smart alec for you?

 

Also feel free to post other examples of smart alec heroes.

A Pre Drain with Incantations, maybe RSR "Humilating jibes" Int might be a good target for this as well.

 

Transform vs Ego Either minor (trigger berserks/enraged) or major (normal character to enraged), same lims

 

+x OCV RSR: Oratory, Pre or Conversation "Target's makes a mistake in their anger"

 

+X DCV RSR vs Target Ego. "Make them too mad to see straight."

I used this for my submission of Gadfly to Name the Hero...

10 "Annoying Gadfly" +20 PRE, only useful to annoy or goad (-1)

Distracting steam of banter: Mind Control or Mental Illusion to make the target unaware of their surroundings or so focused on the character they have a hard time noticing anything else. CE could be use for a similar effect. Incantations, RSR (Oratory or Conversation), language barrier, limited range.

 

"My mother does not wear Army boots, she's in the Navy!" Cumulative Mind Control only to get targets to blurt out some pertinent information in a angry outburst

 

"If you get Dazzle them with Dexterity, Baffle 'em with BS" Entangle Based on ECV, limited Ranged, Incantations through out, RSR: Oratory or Conversation

 

Drive someone to distraction: CE -x to Int and Ego rolls. Incantations throughout, targets must be able to hear characters yammering and wise cracks

 

One upmanship: +20 Pre Usable by x others, AE selective, defensive only. The character makes a snide and devastating put down and just ruins someone's Pre attack.

 

Shatter their Confidence: Negative Skills levels, Incantations, Long Lasting

 

Conversely

 

"I'll show him!" Overall Skill levels UBO, etc that represent the character's goading driving his target to greater efforts just to prove him wrong and shut him up

 

For a fun mix, the two above powers could be Side Effects of each other, going off when the Smart Alec fails his skill roll and has the opposite effect form what he wanted.

 

 

For the truly cruel (and probably villainous) Mental Transforms that acerbate or add psych lims like Depressed, Insecure or even Suicidal.
