WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

On the flip side to the Stronghold thread, let's assume (for argument's sake), that Stronghold has imprisoned your character. But...your character has one power/ability/stunt/etc. that they have somehow overlooked. By "one power" I mean one power, like Tunneling, Flight, not powers that can be made into a Elemental Control, Multipower or VPP (like shapeshifting, frex.) Powers bought as Power skills or as a new Multipower slot are fine.

Now, your character must not only escape his cell, but also free his fellow team members!

What is this power, and how would you use it to get out? Then how you rescue your team?

The power must be GM-friendly. I.e., not out of character concept, not blatantly abusive, not over campaign active point limits (unless your GM would allow it.), etc.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Microman II: N/A. If your willing to just keep his body shut down, he's one of the *easiest* New Sentinels to keep contained. . . and there's several other team members for whom containment would be essentially impossible, anyway.

Diomedes: Has no powers, aside from Athena speaking in his ear periodically. And he's 'just' a street level vigilante and detective, so naturally, no need to do more than stick him in an ordinary jail cell, right? :)

Hermes: Presuming the cells somehow keep him constantly drained of quantum. . . he's still a super genius and superhumanly potent hand to hand combatant. Physically durable cells could stop the latter. . . but he's eventually going to figure out how to disable the quantum drainers, or better yet, reverse them. At which point, qeue super smart, time controlling speedster running amok inside the place.

Mereneptah: He doesn't quite have a reputation as someone whose dangerous to talk to. Given how badly he's going to mind screw every one of the mortal guards that ever comes within hearing range of him, this means he's escaping pretty soon.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

It's been many years since I used Stronghold (or GM-ed a game or played in one for that matter). I'd have to know a bit more about the "accommodations" before I can be very specific. Still (keeping to just Champions characters)....

Lance O'Bannon the Singing Cowboy:

He has 12d6 of luck. He'll just sit back and wait for something to turn up. If they give him a guitar, within 24 hours, the warden and all the guards would be helping him escape, plus his friends, and a sizeable percentage of the prison population would seriously consider reforming.

Bob Tiger or Thunder Rabbit:

About the best these guys could hope for is time off for good behavior. Escape artists they aren't.
:idjit:

The Cat Without a Name:

He's "just a cat" (with human Strength and Intelligence). If he behaves himself, maybe they'll give him the run of the place, never realizing what they've done. Of course, if they know how smart he is, he's screwed, because 10 STR might be enough to break out of a kitty-carrier, but 10 INT isn't enough to really outsmart multiple someones who're on to you. If they know how strong he is, but think he's "just a dumb ol' cat" things begin to look better. His one really super ability (the ability to undetectably induce sleep, a fully invisible ego attack) isn't much use in opening doors, etc.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

hmmm...the most likely overlooked power for Blue Bolt is the fact that he's merged with a human (and technically a 100% different Duplicate). If his host can shut off the duplication (and his host is mind linked, and much brighter), Blue Bolt is effectively free.

Once free, his VPP could be reconfigured into any number of abilities to break his friends out...if he can think of any, and stay focused long enough to get the job done.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Interesting. Assuming they do succeed.

Cyrande: Well, the one power she'd likely still have is the mental link to Aemoth, her ship's AI. And he can help her override any computer system in the building, or even hack the electric company to lose power to certain areas. Though she'd likely let out the most durable member first, depending on if she can get the power disrupters dampened first or not.

Artemis: Well, presuming we're going for a Dispel based idea...They'd likely counter her Shapeshifting and Animal Control. However, even if they put her in a slightly reinforced cell(Minor superhuman strength, major superhuman durability), she still has her claws, which most people still think are tied to her shapeshifting. So, use that to "dig" her way out, when the prison staff are on night shift, then free the others by sneaking past to their cells.

If all her powers are locked down...well, she has what amounts to a literal "get out of here" card(Dimensional Travel, basically an independent way to contact an ally), she just has to convince the person involved that she needs to be put back outside the prison.

Nox: Hmm, she'd likely be one of the ones that need rescuing, considering that to capture her she'd need to be out cold.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Vugil used the simplest method of all. He convinced the wardens that if he wasn't released to talk the hotheads out of it, the repressed metahumans were going (attempt to) to stage a violent revoloution...

The fact that they (the repressed metahumans) were actually going to do it probably helped...

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Volt - The power they are most likely to overlook is magnetism - it is not yet well known. With careful use, he could get out and free whoever he wanted - maybe.

Olorin. - Sheeesh! It's more likely they'd only get one power right - t-port (known for it). Things he could do include, but are not limited to - Desolid, shrinking, mind control, illusions, summoning, dimension travel, time travel (travel to before the cell existed), super strength (not known for that), drain, and more. The guy has a very large VPP and only needs time. This booger would be a pain to contain.

Black Tiger. As a martial artist, his only hope is that they overlook the radio planted in his head as he radioes for a breakout. Other than that, he'd be easy to keep in.

Futurian - Known for his control of tech. However, that could even covers medieval metal locks. If you used natural materials and no tech, no problem. Other wise they would think that primative tech would do it, and that is not so.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Thunder, is a speedster, but her ability to move fast is defined as time dilation. Mostly likely she'd throw it in reverse gear and slow herself down until she appeared to be dead. Once out of the cell, she could run amok.

Plastyque is a stretcher and only mildly strong...except when she takes advantage of hydraulic leverage to turn her body into one big hydraulic jack. Once she cracked the airtight cell, she could slither out through the hole. Or she could escape through the plumbing unless it's a dry cell. The breakout really depends on the circumstances.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Countess Nicolai d'Estes - Rather foresightedly realised that if by some stroke of misfortune she was apprehended by those meddling hero types her likely destination would be Stronghold. Therefore she made sure that certain members of that establishment were securely under her undetectable mental control before she commenced her planned takeover of the city. Thus for the Countess her escape depends on the most rare of all villain abilities; sensible contingency planning.

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Deuce is non-powered. It's unlikely he'd be sentenced to Stronghold, but if he were, the sheer dependence on technology would actually be a hindrance to the guards...

...Seduce the female guard (or even the male one- anything for freedom!)

...Convince the warden he's innocent, or the guards into looking the other way at critical points (did I mention he's got Seduce and Persuasion at 19-?)

...Use Disguise to camouflage himself as an entertainer (or a staff member) during one of the prison concerts, escaping with the band

...Use his Simulate Death Talent to get thrown out with the garbage, an executed criminal, or even the sewage (assuming he knows that it won't be incinerated!)

...Rely on his teammates to free him. Probably this option is best, unless the US has become such a corrupt institution that he's SOL, in which case they may be prisoners as well...

Re: WWYCD: Escape Stronghold!

Delusion is easy, on the grounds that they may simply not realize she's a telepath. (She spent most of her origin story in a mental institution because she was picking up whatever symptoms her doctors expected to see. Since they didn't know she was a telepath, she was really, wildly, misdiagnosed. When she gained control over her powers, she was declared 'cured', but nobody but her and her teammates knew what had really been going on). Her biggest problem would be to avoid picking up too much from the actual criminals in the process of getting her friends out.

Eris actually is a villain (it's that kind of campaign)... Nonetheless, they might well miss the fact that she's really good at manipulation even without her mystical abilities. She'd look for opportunities to seduce a guard or to start a riot for cover. (You know, Eris, the goddess of discord...)

Sparkle can, in addition to flight and energy bolts, also create convincing light illusions over an area. If they missed that, she could trick someone into opening the door, disguise herself as a guard, let the others loose, and then cover them with the same illusory disguise.

Roxy is from a race known to be shapeshifters, but also has teleportation, which is not widely known. Safe blind teleport makes escaping pretty easy.
