How many Pulp plots can you work this into?

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican archeologists have discovered a maze of stone temples in underground caves, some submerged in water and containing human bones, which ancient Mayans believed was a portal where dead souls entered the underworld.

Re: Portal to mythical Mayan underworld found

Hmm, what was that legendary realm, Xibalba or Shibalba or some such?

I remember somebody posted some more on it once, but the only significant reference I remember is in Louis l'Amour's "Haunted Mesa"

Great pulp inspiration, btw, even though it was set more recently. Nothing in it imo could not have been easily modified for use in the Pulp era.

Hmmm...

I was thinking of using the Sipapu of iirc Hopi legend for something anyway, and I think Haunted Mesa combined them... :eg:

The online Encyclopedia Mythica lists it as "Xibalba"' date=' and has a little information on it, although the nested links lead to more interesting characters from Mayan legend: http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/americas/maya/articles.html[/quote']

I hadn't even read the article yet when I posted... serves me right.

Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about the E. M.
