(WWYCD) Superhero Assaination...

Re: (WWYCD) Superhero Assaination...

Any of my hero characters applicable would try to stop the assassination. Come to think of it, one team was mind controlled to kill the president. (First Bush IIRC).

Heck, I think my villains would first see how this may effect their life and stop the assassination.

This is all based on semi-real life analogy, of course.

Then you have to switch games or something, since you're not playing super-heroes at that point...

Re-Read this, this was a good point:

So the Secret Service can kill a would-be assassin in the act, but a Superhero who does the same is no longer a superhero?

Read the quote

Sorry, they kill the President before the Assassin could

More like if the Secret Service goes ahead and shoots the President. So yes.

Kind of like the way a cop can shoot and kill a bank robber, but a Superhero who does that is considered a Vigilante rather than a Superhero...

To an extent. If the bank robber is out in the open, no hostages, no one immeditately threatened, and there's no danger of him getting away, then killing him is probably not called for. On the other hand, if he's waving a gun around in a room full of innocents and you have a clean shot...

In Texas, it's perfectly legal to use deadly force against anyone engaging in the commission of a felony. Since that includes armed citizens who attempt to stop the crime, it would be logical that that would be extended to supers who use deadly force.

Of course, it would be entirely reasonable to question a super who consistently left dead bodies in his wake. Not to mention that supers generally have abilities that leave them with options for non-lethal force not available to police and ordinary humans.

Re: (WWYCD) Superhero Assaination...

Mechano (Iron Man Clone with a CvK so bad he refuses to do BODY damage): Would use his extensive finances and media contacts to bring the president down "legally" (ie. creating a scandal so big the POTUS is forced out) before the assassination can take place, informing the would-be assassin of his intent first. This is, of course, presuming he agrees with the assassin. If not, then he'd go after the assassin, and put him in jail.

Poltrageist (dead guy brought back to make the world a better place by saving people from themselves): doesn't much care much about the affairs of mortals. He would intervene if the PTB (the powers that be) ordered him to, if someone’s soul (most likely the assassin’s) was in danger. He would otherwise help stopping the assassin, as a favor, if any team member asked him to.

It's the having other options that makes the difference, to me. Cops and Secret Service agents really only have one way of stopping a bad guy - shooting at the centre of mass, which is often fatal. Any good superhero should have several other options, which means it goes from having to use lethal force to choosing to use lethal force.

Assuming your campaign point-levels and (villian) power levels don't force you into being a one-trick pony (just so you'll have one attack that will be effective!).

Well, yes. Cyclops, for example, pretty much has his Fancy Eye Beams and that's it. Good point :)
