BobGreenwade
I'm building a supervillain's base, and I figure he has a small particle accelerator (somewhat like the Large Hadron Collider, but not as Large). I'm figuring that it should be enough to just buy it as a Lab in the form of SS: Quantum Physics, since that's most of what it would be used for, but I'm wondering if anyone has any differing opinions. Sean Waters
Re: Particle accelerator Can you buy VPPs for base components? Whilst a particle accelerator would USUALLY be used as a physics lab, in extremis it could probably be converted to a teleport system or a weapon. BobGreenwade
Re: Particle accelerator The villain already has both a teleport system and a quantum-based weapon on the base. OTOH I imagine the accelerator could be used for a deathtrap scenario if such was really needed.

For example, perhaps it can be redirected for a Ravening Beam Of Death.

And I hope that this discussion helps him, too (which is part of why I decided to bring it up now rather than wait for the book).
prestidigitator
Re: Particle accelerator It really depends on how rubber-science you want to get. You could build it as some kind of super-sensitive Enhanced Sense that'll detect any supernatural phenomenon in the vicinity of the planet by examining the results of a collision if you wanted to. Perhaps Extra-Dimensional Travel and/or Teleportation/Gate that's accomplished by putting people/things in the proximity of the collisions. Distinctive Features detectable by unusual senses for the Base. The equipment you are considering could really be the SFX justification for just about anything in a comic book or science fiction type setting. ajackson
Re: Particle accelerator Then, of course, we have the character 'Particle', with 100 points in 'shrinking'... If you're curious, your average proton has 32 levels of shrinking (works out to 4.6e-10m, 1.26e-27 kg; actual mass is 1.6e-27 kg) plus 15 levels of shrinking (no mass reduction, +1/2) for a total cost of 327 points, or 538 points if Persistent 0 END. If instead you want to shrink into a black hole, a 100 kg black hole has a Schwarzchild radius of 1.48e-25m, which is roughly 83 levels of shrinking (no mass reduction) for 747 points, or 1120 points if Persistent.
