AdrianGideon
Where can I find information on Dr. Macabre (or the Janus Key) outside the 5e/6e CU books? I've searched the forum and the few mentons I've found hint at older sources... Thanks in advance!
Lord Liaden
Re: Dr. Macabre? AFAIK those references are pretty much all there is published to date about Dr. Macabre. The sourcebook Champions Universe: News Of The World goes into a little more detail about the Janus Key's recent use in Vibora Bay than the summary in Champions Universe 6E does, but doesn't add any fundamental data. The Janus Key was created for the 5E Champs Universe, and was never mentioned in earlier publications.
Steve Long
Re: Dr. Macabre? Dr. Macabre (and the Janus Key) first appeared in the 5E version of Champions Universe, from 2002; he was our example Silver Age villain in that book (since he died in prison in 1993). The 5E supplement Champions Universe: News Of The World had some additional information about his main power-item, the Janus Key. The current version of Champions Universe, while lacking a character sheet for him, mentions Dr. Macabre and has the full, up to date to 2010, information on the Janus Key (everything you'd find in CU: NotW, and a bit more). Right now the Key's out there, no one knows where, a threat hanging over the heads of the entire Champions Universe. And that's pretty much it. There are no other sources of information outside of our books (other than some fiendish ideas locked in my li'l brain ), and the character/Key didn't exist prior to 2002. Epiphanis
Re: Dr. Macabre? Similar. It is a magical artifact that permits access to certain dimensions and has the power to alter this dimension's reality to a certain extent. It is also theorized to have an intelligence of its own. AdrianGideon
Re: Dr. Macabre? Thanks for the help! I just wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered; I introduced a "fake" Janus key as a macguffin for one of our episodes, and wanted to make sure I had all pertinant info in case it turns out to be real later
Lord Liaden
Re: Dr. Macabre? That reminds me to ask: 5E CU mentions that the Janus Key is "from the days of the wars of Atlantis," but The Atlantean Age campaign book doesn't mention it; nor is the "cosmic axis" described in Atlantean cosmology. Is it still canon that the Key dates from Atlantis?
