Re: Only up to PRE+EGO AP useable

GL rings are universal foci in many ways. What if the PC is captured and a villain takes his charged ring?

It happens less often than him just having his ring stolen and having it locked away, perhaps even in plain sight.

And the times it does happens, it is (or becomes) the core of the adventure. "GL Ring is take by Villain of the week" isn't something that happens just out of the blue, it's something the GM planned. So he already has a pre written sheet of big-bad + power ring. On whatever powerlevel the GM fees nessesary (just the same, because it replaces his shtick, somewhat more powerfull or space-god - whatever the adventure requires).

Your argument might be valid IF the game was earthbound and didn't feature other power ring space cops on a regular basis.

If the game was based in space and featured other power ring users all the time (like the new Animated Green Lantern series) it breaks down horribly.

It's like arguing that Lightsabers used by Sith & Jedi on the Animated Clone Wars are all constructs designed by their welders. In both sources the weapons are not designed by their users (lightsabers can be constructed by Jedi but they all follow the same requirements of materials used and capabilities once completed). Green Lanterns do not create their power rings. Guardians created the rings and issue them to GL's like an army issues a standard firearm like a M-16. Standardizing the construction of the rings makes sense and is a lot easier in the long run for any GM who allows 'space-cop supers' in their game.

"It's not the ring that maters, it's the person that wields it." - Pretty sure that is said at least once per Series.

Let's take Kilowog and Hal. Both have thier sheets. Both have paid for thier ability to controll the "Green Light of Willpower". Kilowog has propably invested less points (and more in HTH), but also has his alien durability/strenght to go with. Both have the Limit "Green Lantern Ring of Opportunity".

Even if they (the characters) invest a thousand character points into "Green Light of Willpower", not a single one is invested into the Ring, because it's jsut the enabling device for them to use their power.

To repeat it: The Ring stays the same. It won't change, no mater if he is at Abin Surs or Hal Jordans Hand and not mater how many users it had in the tiem before (since forming of the GL-corps). Every single point is invested into the user of the ring!

Now Hal looses his ring. Kilog gives him his Ring. Later Kilowog finds Hals ring.

Can Kilog do any more than he coudlw ith his Ring? No.

Can Hal do anything less than with he could with his ring? No.

Does it affect in any way affect what powerlevel GL Penguin or GL Batman had in The Batman, Ring Toss? Hell No. If you look at that epsiode closesly you see that neitehr penguin nor Batman use ANY of thier gadgets they normally have while wielding the Ring, so they jsut traded their character sheet for one built with the same points but Green Lantern Powers.

Penguin was the big bad (Gm wrote him), Batmans player propably just wanted to see how a GL-Batman works (and provided a sheet).

It's always fun when we try to apply game rules to fiction. Let's look at other options:

- the ring is a universal focus, but of course characters that didn't pay for such a focus do not get Weapon Familiarity (or Transport Familiarity) for free, so they take penalties to its use (unless Bats wants to pony up some xp for WF: GL Ring and hope one falls in his lap again).

- the ring is uncommon enough that the GM decides any GL can use any GL ring to access the powers he purchased with the GL ring focus - even if someone else is using his ring to access his powers.

- Bats and Pengy still had all their gadgets, but they didn't use them since, like many players, they were much too fascinated by this new toy/ability.

- the GM had to think on the fly, so he botched a rule call (but it added to the fun, so he rolled with it)
