Alcibiades
Hi, I'm building a character based on Lovecraft (both the person, and the mythos). He's a part-ghoul crimefighter. Anyway, I want him to have thinly-veiled homages to various mystical artifacts found in Lovecraft's stories -- the Silver Key (Extra-Dimensional Movement to the Dreamzone), Shining Trapezohedron (Summon some kind of shadow monster), etc. This stuff is in his sanctum (a base) and he can only use them there, normally. That point savings for buying a power in a Base is tremendous though. It doesn't seem right that you should get a 300-point Summon for 6 points (60 points for the Summon, -1 for OAF = 30/5 = 6). So basically my question is: is it better to buy these kind of things as 1) part of a base or 2) Immobile Foci, which are located at the base? The latter costs a lot more, but they seem functionally equivalent (?).
csyphrett
Re: A base with stuff, or just a bunh of Immobile Foci? in the Fifth ed, immobile foci are already considered part of your base. CES
Bolon
Re: A base with stuff, or just a bunh of Immobile Foci? This actually sounds like what you might want to discuss with your GM. I personally think that if it is only usable at your base, I would be okay with it being part of your base. If the powers just have to originate at the base, I think Immobile Foci that is at the base would be more appropriate. Is the creature summoned going to be travelling away with you? Is the dimensional door only one way from the base or can you return from the other end? If the creature serves you outside of the base and the door opens other places, it is an immobile foci. psyber624
Re: A base with stuff, or just a bunh of Immobile Foci? The point difference isn't really all that much as well. Your "Base" version of the summon costs 6 points. If it was OAF Immobile its 20 points. That's only 14 points difference. The functionality is about the same (being a part of a base doesn't really give or take anything away from the power itself). So I would think that either would be acceptable, although I second Bolon's comments about where the powers are useable.
bigbywolfe
Re: A base with stuff, or just a bunh of Immobile Foci? psyber, 14 points may not be huge in a 400+ point supers game (some would argue otherwise), but it's pretty darn significant in a 175 point game (or even 250) with "normals". Alcibiades
Re: A base with stuff, or just a bunh of Immobile Foci? So, per rules, if you have a Summon as part of a base, you can't send the critter off somewhere else after you summon it?

So' date=' per rules, if you have a Summon as part of a base, you can't send the critter off somewhere else after you summon it?[/quote'] That is not explicit in the rules (or even implied for that matter). However, I could easily see a GM ruling that way because of the drastic point saving.
