SKJAM!
Your character's hero team (or the one they team up with most often) is battling a villain. Thing is, this particular villain is a step down from the usual. He/she/it normally fights much lower-level heroes, and struggles at that. Today they're taking on the whole team and easily holding their own. Superior teamwork finally takes its toll, and you have the villain on the ropes--when they suddenly teleport away. And if your team has someone that can trace teleportation, it's untraceable. The villain has never had teleportation powers before. A little research reveals that several other hero groups have had the same thing happen; normally low-level villains suddenly are much more powerful, and have new escape powers preventing them from being captured. One hero who happened to have a semi-friendly relationship with the villain attacking his group (long story, don't ask) reports that the villain claimed not to know where his new powers came from--he just woke up that way. What would your character do?
massey
Unbeatable villains who teleport away? I've played in those games before. I slap the GM.
drunkonduty
Knight Sabre - "Damn I hate it when this happens. Right, let's go find Telios and beat the crap out of him." With the intent of getting the "cure" to the villains' new powers, not just because he's a douche bad who needs a beating. Really. Dark Star - "It better not be some super "hero" behind this. I'm really starting to get jack of this town." He'd begin by chasing up his various mystic contacts since this sounds very much like some sort of magic wish fulfilment thing. He'd ask if they'd noticed any unusual sitings, disturbances in the force, that sort of thing. He wouldn't be surprised if DEMON are involved. Or the $$@%!!! Crowns of Krim. "Man I hate those guys." Presume that this is a GM you trust, and it's clear that this is a plot point, not plot armor.
FrankL
Bolt and the rest of Garret's Crew see that it is Monstrous Regiment and expect to have this wrapped up in minutes. Quake would even make a remark about sitting this one out since we won't need any heavy muscle. After MR gets away with the loot, Null Space would try and fail to trace them. Then the Crew started looking for how they got those powerups. Garret would have his suspicions on who would be behind it, and he would put out feelers amongst his contacts on the street. He's suspect Walker to be behind it (Walker was a multimillionaire who funded genetic research hoping to take humanity to the next step of evolution). He'd figure that Walker had turned to technology as the next step. Bolt would start searching the Net (and his contacts there) for his part of the investigation. All names are from the team.
