Rest in peace, ma'am.  And Godspeed.

 

I read the book (never saw the movie) ... my comments (hardly a review) are here.  I lived at the very end of that era (John Glenn's Friendship 7 flew when I was 5 and a half), as a very young white child in central and southern California, and (starting 10 months after Glenn's flight) in West Berlin.  Became a space fanatic a bit after that.  Got interested in the math of orbital mechanics and space mission flight after the Apollo 13 near-disaster, but ended up in astrophysics rather than aerospace tech.
