  1. Re: Unmaking

    This doesn't strike me as a no-win scenario. There are plenty of "no-win" scenarios in comics and RPGs, and heroes go ahead and win anyway, like they never got the memo.

    To fix time problems, you need time solutions.

    Coax Victor von Doom out. He'll sort this mother out in no time with his time machine, and my hero would owe a favor to one of the worst people in the world! There's some grist for your gaming mill.

    I'm really surprised that all these thoughtful people are angry that this sort of thing might come up. Don't we, through our heroes, cheat metaphorical death all the time? Isn't that the meat and drink of superheroes?

    As I read somewhere:

    When Captain Cold freezes Batman in a solid block of ice, does the thought balloon read, "My chances should be better than this!"

    And as I answer:

    No, Batman busts out with the Bat Heat Ray and melts the block of ice, just in time to stop Captain Cold from crushing Comissioner Gordon and Robin beneath a giant frozen dinner or whatever.

    And bigger calamities require bigger solutions, but superheroes always find them.

    Now, if the GM won't let you get around a problem, then it's time to pull the plug on this particular subplot until you can figure out what you did to him to make him so sore at you.

  2. Re: Who is your Taskmaster?

    As for Tasky himself' date=' the man has so many abilites and gadgets that, were I to create him, he would already have all the super skills, levels and martial arts maneuvers purchased normally. This would represent the vast aray of abilities he has obtained from past conflicts. The VPP would primarily be there to learn new things on the fly...[/quote']

    Right! Taskmaster is easily on par with Batman, as far as sheer number of skills.

  3. Re: Who is your Taskmaster?

    The "choose your lims" part is shorthand for "I don't want to think about the lims at the moment". And certainly you can add whatever skill you want to permanently buy buying it!

    Most of the time though, you can simulate a lot of different combat abilities with the same Martial maneuver, or whatever.

    I'm so glad this is legal.

  4. Re: Who is your Taskmaster?

    As I've yet to figure out how to do the Photographic Reflexes thing in a game system, I gave this guy a limited version of Psychometry that I once saw in a Battle Angel Alita comic.

    VPP, skills only, choose your lims. Not book-legal, but it fits the bill.

  5. Re: Super-Skills Megathread

    This is a Fox Mulder type of Danger Sense. It doesn't alert him of danger to himself but by reading a paper, report, watching the news, or any other activity that might expose him to current events the character will intuitively know when something is a threat related to "X-Files."

    (X-Files = Oddball non-conventional threats such as aliens, mystical threats, cryptozoology, etc..)

    Drawn To Mystical Threats: Non-Personal Danger Sense (City or Regional Area, out of combat, Discriminatory, Tracking) (37 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Minute, Only to Activate, Character May Take No Other Actions, -1), Vague (-1/2), Requires A Background Skill Roll (X-Files, Arcane, Occult, or Alien Knowledge Skill; -1/4). Real Cost 13

    Tracking because you almost always get a lead on where to start the investigation. There should also be a focus in there but there are many different foci and they are easily replaced (magazines, books, reports, tvs)

    IIF: News source of opportunity (-1/4) Inobvious because nobody knows where the next lead will come from.

  6. Re: Mystic Hero in development

    That's pretty darn strong. Invisibility + Multiform + 45 PRE in a multipower... that's like stealing. His defenses being low are a good compensation. Wizards are supposed to be glass cannons unless they're solo adventurers. It's a trope.

  7. Re: Who is your Taskmaster?

    I think I will call the Taskmaster... Simple Simon. And his "school" will be called Simple Simon's Revenge Squad.

    I'm trying to flesh out a top-notch rogue's gallery for a hero. Who this hero is, is still up in the air. I have some ideas. But I think his rogue's gallery will mostly be nursery rhyme themed.

    If you can think of any catchy names which evoke the sentiment of Babes in Toyland crossed with Fight Club, please help me out. I have an exhaustive list, but some of the names on it don't immediately lend themselves to insta-characters. So, it's tough going.

    Another question: Is there a copywritten superhero or villain named The Glider?

  8. Re: the sounds of champions

    Dr. Whitehorn ought to be voiced by Gilbert Gottfried

    Defender= Bobcat Goldthwait

    Witchcraft = Edith Bunker

    Nighthawk = Don Knotts

    Drs. White and Black = Simon Crowell and Paula Abdul

    Ironclad = Yeardley Smith
