  1. Re: KAs vs CvK

There are all sorts of variations on CODE vs KILLING around, ask the player what they are trying to go for with their character. "Won't use lethal force" even applies to 9d6 Blasts as well as 3d6 RKA.

A police officer type, lets say, will not go out to kill someone normally but WILL use lethal force when faced with same.

  2. Re: 5e: Intersection of Penetrating and Foci

According to FRED P 294 [Foci] and P. 266 [ Penetrating ] this seems perfectly legal. Mind you 1 BODY beyond DEF doesn't always destroy a Foci totally, only 1 power of the Foci. IMHO, Armor Piercing/Penetrating logicially could have an easier time breaking through a defense- Say the structure of a given wall-or even the use of Find Weakness could help. Though ARMOR bought through a Focus is treated differently then other powers bought through a Focus.

Mind you I said legal, as A GM I'd want to know how/why such a power works and ultimately why I should allow it. Personally I wouldn't allow a Focus to be so easily broken or destroyed by a 7 point power as the example you gave [ 1 pip RKA, Penetrating] unless it was built using the disadvantage Fragile.

  3. Re: Zero Information

This idea reminds me of a GURPS Time Travel Campaign I was in. We were instructed that we could build characters from any historical period we wanted and those characters would be transported to the "present" where we would become a group and go back in time to fix some problems caused by a rogue time traveler.

We had all sorts of characters; A Cowboy, a middle ages "magic-user", a martial artist Zen master among others.

  4. Re: City Killer - Only you can destroy Philadelphia

<-- Born, raised and lives [currently] in Philadelphia.

The way things are going you wouldn't have to resort to something extreme to destroy Philadelphia. There were 3 major record breaking snow storms in the start of this year, the first one was bad enough to take up ALL the city's budget for the year. Mayor Nutter had to make serious cutbacks just to keep the city going. Next we have record breaking high heat waves, 100+ degrees, several days in a row. Many people have died this year from weather alone.

Neighborhoods have been changing in Phialdelphia, like the proposed casino. Alot of people are being pushed out of Philadelphia as the city seems to be turning into more of a tourist attraction. Not that July 4th isn't important but certain parts of the city are being remade into hotels for visitors. What about the citizens of Philadelphia???

Trust me when I say that with the right amount of effort you could turn Philadelphia into a wasteland without atomic weapons, killer viruses, or any other holocaust producing effect. Sad :(

  5. Re: Puppeteering

Is that really worth a (-1/2)? There are significant penalties to hitting someone you can't see anyway' date=' unless other targeting senses are very common in your campaign...[/quote']

Actually I thought he said that he had to see the target or maintain line of sight. No bouncing is (-1/4), but what about not when controller is sight flashed or in darkness to sight [cannot see target] ? Or even target must be awake? Could he control a person if they were knocked out??? Is he limited by what the target is capable of doing???

  6. Re: Puppeteering

    Telekinesis, Fine Manipulation [+10 pts],

Gestures- Both Hands & Throughout (-1),

Limited Range [Must be able to see target, direct line of sight ] (-1/2),

One target at a time [ while controlling 'A' cannot switch to 'B' unless "lets go of" 'A'](-1/2),

    Not on inanimate objects (-1/2)

  7. Re: FRED Question

Increase spacing between villians so that they all aren't affected.

Whats the special effect; if your throwing a grenade then it can be missile deflected.

Invisible villians with indirect attacks ?

    Mind Control: "Attack your friends!"

If it's too easy then it's not fun anymore, disallow it.

  8. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated

    Actually over the course of time I have heard other "comments" on the Champions system;

#1- It's too generic : Some superhero games have 'set' effects, ie Flame Blast, Electrical attack, etc So when exposed to HERO it seems dry/dull.

#2- It only uses d6's: In some systems attacks use different dice for effect. In D&D, for example, you use all manor of dice. Swords can do 1d8 or even 1d12 . Again this can seem bland.

#3 Only 5 experience points ??!! To become better in some systems it takes 1,000's of experience points for a 'level' so only getting 5 points after saving the world seems trivial.

  9. Re: Not D&D

You are not alone, friend QUOAXX, I once GM'd a game set in Imperial Rome I told my players that " I had no objection to anyone playing a 'religious character' but to use the word 'diety' and NOT G-d because using G-d would be taking G-d's name in vain." I had my religious quirks ;) No one objected.

In a post long ago I asked our fellow gamers how they would handle a setting like Chronicles of Narnia, since I feared that some people would object to it on religious grounds.

    I wish you luck.

  10. I've been reading through this book called STUPERPOWERS and was thinking of creating a game based on the main idea. That being superheroes with ; trivial powers, useless powers, or plain disgusting special effects.

Right now I need a team name, hopefully one with a strange acryonym or pun related name.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  11. Re: Public ID or Secret ID

Actually when HERO was starting out as Champions Public ID was 10 points and Secret ID was 15 points, they were also SEPERATE disadvantages. It wasn't until later that they came under one category.

I remember one of my players talking about dropping his characters Secret ID to Public ID. These days thats not even a point difference so maybe somewhere people who made contributions to HERO thought they were worth the same number of points and were thus equal. Ideally it does depend on the type of campaign and character in question.

  12. So here I sit thinking about building a HERO supers game, but wondering where it will be set. I mean New York is so overdone, and everybody knows Metropolis , Gotham City, etc

I wanted to do something at least somewhat original but wondered what to call the city in question. Where do my fellow heroes out there get the names of the cities they base their games in? I wasn't looking for names of 'real world' cities but fictional ones instead.

    Any help would be appreciated....

  13. Re: My Players looted the room

If superheroes can loot then why can't supervillians? Have the PC's fight a villian who uses stolen foci from other superheroes. If they defeat the villian a long line of supers show up for their stuff back, undamaged of course, assuming they can beat the villian with 200+ extra point of stolen foci.

  14. Re: Waking up with not-so-super powers

From the makers of Cosmic Awareness comes; Self Awareness.

You are aware of yourself as a sentient, intelligent being. You know everything about yourself; Your thoughts, feelings, beiliefs, etc. Adding Discriminatory and you understand how deeply you feel on every subject.

  15. Alright I am working on creating a campaign and was wondering what Everyman skills to use. In general how do you decide what skills to put on such a list. For example, If you start a campaign in the Mountains then everyone should have Climbing at least.
