  1. Re: Physical and Energy Defense

And such people could be represented with appropriate limitations on extra DEF.

Player characters? Almost always nearly identical. Bases, Vehicles, etc? They've already merged the two stats.

If it hadn't "always been that way", I doubt there would be anyone yelling that we should separate it. :)

I personally like more characteristics than less. I also think that there is a good point where things get too complicated.

As such PD, ED, and MD is enough. I can build the worlds best Mentalist with the ability to put up energy shields but be taken down from nothing more than a rock thrown by an angry mob.

Or I could play Null whose system shielding has large vulnerabilities to Energy attacks due to lack of field testing but able to successfully tangle with bricks and her unusual mind gives her decent Mental Defense to make Mind Controls and Telepathy weak enough to avoid severe problems but not so strong that they can't knock her out after a couple of well placed Ego Attacks.

I also of the camp that Comeliness should be a Characteristic, not a Perk. But that is another discussion for another day.

  2. Re: Shielding a Base

Powers bought on a base cover the entire base. In this case you want to apply a power to only part of a base. There are two ways to do this that I can see.

Concealment 15- (21 Active Points) Base Lab Only (-1 1/2). Total Cost: 8 points.

Invisibility to Radio Sense Group; Reduce Endurance Cost (0 END; +1/2) (15 Active Points); Base Lab Only (-1), Only Hides Contents of Area, Existence of Shielding Can Be Detected (-1/2). Total Cost: 6 points.

Add on OAF Immobile if you desire.

  3. Re: Turakian vs Valdorian?

I've been playing with the possibility of the Valdorian Age (i.e. Swords and Sorcery) preceeding the Turakian Age (High Fantasy). High Fantasy seems much more refined cross-culturally, and Sword and Sorcery seems much more cataclysmic, primordial and almost 'pre-historic'. When I first started looking at the Valdorian Age (actually I just got the book this week) I got excited because I might finally have an excuse to use the dinosaur write-ups in the HSB (go ahead... either laugh or agree with me. Dino-Boy, anyone?)

VA's magic seems much more difficult, which seems more in its infancy to me whereas TA's magic system (the gods start interacting with people more or less) seems more specialist-oriented. Kind of like Ancient Greece's life sciences vs. modern -ologies. BUT the case can be made (as I'm sure it is, I have yet to read through VA) that at the dawn of VA the gods are through mingling with people as a rule and lack of 'belief' leads to more strenuous magical rituals to match the lack of common magical knowledge. Stick with me here, I may just be tired.

So should the VA (SnS) pre-date the TA (HF) when comparing genres and not settings? As of now I'm thinking that one could make a strong case for it, but I can also see the logic in the way things currently are in the meta-HERO timeline.

I suppose for what you are asking you can say that Valdorian Age's magic system can be used both before and after Turakian Age.

Valdorian Age comes from metaphysical entities that, presumably, get their powers from the Gods. And as such the metaphysical entities are less forgiving in what they can be used for. So in this, I could see that it was only during the Turakian Age that the Gods felt humans were worthy of recieving the power directly.

  4. Re: Disadvantages giving xp

My version of that would have gone a little differently. Everyone else would get what they individual deserved' date=' and Bob would get 0 plus have a future of being hunted as a wanted man to look forward to.[/quote']

I think the only time that Disadvantages should effect Experience is in the opposite situation.

yeah i kinda figured that out. After I realized it was the decoder ring. feel free to delete the quote from your post if you want to.

You will note I changed the text I quoted before I posted.

I tried to give you rep but I was either out of rep to give or have given you rep recently. Couldn't remember which it was.

  6. Re: Turakian vs Valdorian?

That's actually the kind of comparison I needed. I'm definitely going to look into getting Turakian Age. :)

Well, before you do that, the Valdorian Age book is really well done. I normally love high fantasy, but the low fantasy system for Valdorian Age is amazing.

  8. I have a question I was hoping someone could help me with. I have Valdorian Age and I have been informed that the gods are all listed in the Turakian Age Sourcebook. Well, I need some help because I won't be able to get Turakian Age for a little while.

Is there a god that fits the domain of Ice? If not specifically for Ice, is there a god that covers the domain of Water?

  9. I have Valdorian Age and obviously not the Turakian Age. The Valdorian Age says pretty much, the gods left because Valdor was killed.

    Who where the gods anyway?

If your going to be running a campaign, it would kind of be nice to know who had been around and had been worshipped so that you can design old temples and ancient religious relics for the signs of the old gods. So if someone could share this with me, I would appreciate it.

  10. Re: Anybody playing Valdorian Age?

I got the book today. Overall it was very excellent. I felt there were a lot of places that more information was needed on. For example, while the book goes great depth on the magic system, I don't feel like their is any difference between the different types of elementalists. Also because elementalists are considered one group you get 9 necromancy spells and a single water elementalist spell.

Otherwise I really like this book.

  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings

    Just took a fun escalation.

Guy had three overdraft charges of $31.00 each. It wasn't a bank error but we gave him the money back. Unfortunately, we accidently gave the total back twice. So instead of being rebated $93, he was rebated $186. One of our departments caught some of this and placed a charge on his account for $62. The guy simply did not understand that it was because we gave him more money than we charged him.

  12. Re: Aldaric Gaming Presents: The Illuminati

Do magic or miracles exist ? If so' date=' is it reasonably well known or do one or more of the groups try to hoard that knowledge? I'd allow The Migard Serpent (or are they now the Shepherds -- an excellent name by the way, CraterMaker) some weak power which they keep secret, possibly by misdirection as I'm all in favor of having deranged alchemists playing in underground lairs. This may not be the mood you wish to set though.[/quote']I'd like to keep the world as mundane as possible. I don't the existance of magic to a degree as long as it is very, very difficult and requires massive people in complex rituals.

From the sidearm description of group ????' date=' it appears at least some technology has advanced past what exists today. How far? Assuming the Illuminatii have more advanced gadgets, the next question is whether their research is just better than everybody else, or do they actively impede R&D worldwide?[/quote']Good question. Feel free to answer these yourself. I hadn't put much thought into it yet.

I'd go with ???? trying to impede development. Primitive monkey-brains not ready for big boom weapons and all that. They might try to divert R&D into less dangerous channels. This' date=' of course, plays into The Council of 13's hands, as they're in favor of people making their lives more comfortable. Unfortunately, the Council also has a lucrative arms business, and finds the occasional war good for [censored'] reasons. As ???? cuts into this, they must be controlled. ???? wasn't really aware of the Council until recently when three high priority projects didn't work quite right.
I would imagine they were not aware of the Council as an entity but had seen signs of some group out there. I can see all of this working though.

PS, the "view all entries" link takes you to Easthaven. Was that your intent?
That would be a bug. When I created The Illuminati I had only one campaign setup, Easthaven. I copied the sidebar, header, and main viewing system over and cut out all of the extra links keeping only one for overview, one for detailed information, and one for view all entries. I should have had the view all entries refer back to campaign information until I got that link fully implimented. I clearly did not.

    I'll get it fixed.
