  1. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Not at all. I just figured I hadn't done a very good job of explaining my end of things. Just because I know that I am in general very open minded about musical styles, and only give up on one after giving it a long hard try doesn't mean that anyone else has any way of knowing that. Unless of course I tell them. Heck, in general I enjoy being exposed to new and interesting music. C&W just ain't it. Though some of the other stuff you mentioned sounded kinda cool...
  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Personally, I can honestly say that I've never make a post simply to up the number of posts that I have. All of the posts I've written I've done so because I had something to say that I thought and/or hoped that others here might find interesting/useful/humourous/etc.
  3. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Different stuff. And there is plenty of folk and bluegrass that I don't like, because it is too "countryish". And again, I'm glad that you like Hank Williams, but I'm not fond of his stuff at all. Nor do I have any interest at all in gospel music. Another type of music that sets my teeth on edge. I am somewhat unfortunatly fairly picky about the music I enjoy. Off key music grates on my nerves. Which is different than music that takes advantage of the interesting play between notes that are almost but not quite in tune. Musicians that can't hold a beat are also annoying to me, but again I also like music that plays with the tempo and time signature. In general though, I'm willing to give just about any music a try. It is just that I've already given C&W a LOT of tries, and it is consistantly something that I don't like.
  4. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I hadn't thought of that. Dang, there actually might be a reason to move there...
  5. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well, I do like folk music, and even bluegrass. Just not C&W, and I had a great deal of exposure to it while living in OK for 8 years, so I am indeed making an informed statement. As far as my comment about "amateurs", I was more referring to the karaoke type stuff. I'm actually quite fond of a wide variety of music by people that aren't getting paid for it. There are some very good musicians that perform regularly at a number of SCA events that I frequent.
  6. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Best of luck! "Once more unto the breach dear friends..."
  7. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER See, and I expected him to post a pic of a sheep in a bikini, or something of that nature... And I've known WAY to many people who listen to C&W and have sh!tloads of kids to believe the second bit, amusing as it is.
  8. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER But I thought you were encouraging derails on this thread?!?!?
  9. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER So not just C&W, but AMATURE C&W?!?!?!
  10. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Easily, but then again I'm allergic to cig smoke and abhor country music.
  11. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Heck, I've got several bottles of scotch that I've had for years.
  12. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I determined once that I do not seem to be vulnerable to addiction to EthOH. I was fairly depressed for a long stretch of time while I was going to OU, and had pretty much stopped going to classes. I was drinking between 1 and 2 litres of 100 proof Vodka a week. Some friends of mine the morning after a particularly bad binge (I was coherent becuase I have an amazing ability to not get hung over) let me know that they were worried that I was becomming an alcoholic. I decided they might be right, so I stopped drinking. At all. Didn't have anything with alcohol in it for 3 years. After 3 years I decided that I was probably pretty safe, and now drink occasionally. It actually seems that I have a resistance to addiction in general, as I also do not experience any bad effects from stopping my intake of caffiene, even when I've been consuming massive quantities prior to stopping. The worst it ever got was (again) at OU, when I would regularly dissolve No-Doze in Mountain Dew to stay awake for several days. Never had any problems going entirely caffiene free for even months afterwords. I guess I'm just a mutant.
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER As for hot caffienated beverages, my preferance is a nice large Cambric. Which for those who do not know (including it seems most Starbucks barristas) is Earl Grey tea and steamed milk. I prefer a mix of 1/3 tea to 2/3 milk. On the few occasions that I DO drink coffee based drinks, it is usually a Caramel Macchiato. Mmmmm....
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I always found this oddly amusing. When someone would ask a friend of mine if he minded if they smoked, his response was generally "I don't know, mind if I sh!t in your shoe?"
  15. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Awww, come on!!! It isn't like she knows where you live or anything.
