Re: Ctrl+V Vinny, feeling that creeping sense of deja vu that seems to typify today, busts back into Ms. Dryden's classroom and hunkers down behind the counters by the windows - the ones through which they first saw the falling star. He takes a spot by the corner: this way, he can see the staff parking lot through the windows along one wall and the field, the woods, through the windows along the other. The twilight is dimming, and the biology room is cast in dusky marine shades. He peeps through Alex's orderly row of bean-dishes at Mr. Addison, talking on his cell. He strains his ears, and can just make out the words. They're faint: he has to piece them back together in his head, and they don't make sense at first. When they do interlock, his stomach heaves. "Yes. The fire should cover it." A pause; the history teacher's stoney face hardens, and Vinny catches panic in his eyes. But he doesn't argue. "I have a handheld dracon in my host's desk. I'll fetch it, and take care of the ship." Another pause; Addison glances behind him, apparently checking to see if Lisa's still in sight. "No. One of the children I teach. She didn't see the ship, just the fire - she came running to find me." A barking laugh. "Lucky, I suppose. It would have impugned on our schedule to have had to infest her and erase the evidence." A pause. Another pause. "Yes, Sub-Visser. I'll get it done right away." He clicks a button on his cellphone, lowering it from his grey-whiskered face - it twists in a motion of resentment, and he mutters something under his breath as he beeps his car locked and heads for the building. He passes perilously close to the window, and stops there, gazing balefully into the biology classroom. If he just came an inch closer - peered down the counters, perhaps, to see how the plants were looking - but of course the Yeerk slug in his head cares nothing for that, and he turns away with an irritated sigh. His shadow passes over Vinny safely as the teenager holds still and crouching, trying not to move. In the janitor's closet, they hear the sound of footsteps hitting the lino, heavy adult male ones. A classroom door swings open: the sound of a key turning in a lock, a desk drawer closing, and it swings shut again. The man leaves. Vinny watches as Mr. Addison - or whatever is inside Mr. Addison - crosses the sloping field. He has a small, black box in one hand - the same as the ones those Hork-Bajir monsters had aimed at Aximili. Across his mouth and nose is affixed a simple medical mask, like the kind they used to show people on TV wearing back during the SARS scare. He probably picked it up from the nurse's office, to help with the smoke. Vinny watches him walk, his charcoal suit heavy on his shoulders, which sway loosely and make the small black box - the weapon - clasped in his palm sway too, like a wasp's stinger, hanging low and deadly from its abdomen. After about a minute and a half, he disappears into the darkness of the treeline. It looks like they have their first confirmed human-controller.

  17. Re: Ctrl+V SATANIC ICHOR A 13-gallon canister of satanic ichor weighs 250 pounds. A typical canister has hardness 5, 15 hit points, and a break DC of 18. If the canister sports a lock, the lock is usually high quality (Open Lock DC 30). Once released from its canister, satanic ichor can crawl across surfaces or float through the air with ease. Species Traits Blindsight (Ex): Satanic ichor is blind but can ascertain all creatures and objects within 120 feet by nonvisual means. Beyond that range, all targets have total concealment with respect to the satanic ichor. Corrupt the Mind (Su): As an attack action, satanic ichor can dominate any creature it can contact telepathically (as the domination psionic power manifested by a 10th-level Telepath). A successful Will save (DC 18) negates the effect and protects the creature against further domination attempts by the satanic ichor for 24 hours. Satanic ichor trapped within a container will typically use a dominated creature to break the container that confines it. Freed satanic ichor will typically use a dominated creature as a vessel (see below) or thrall to attract other potential thralls. Immunities: Satanic ichor is immune to all weapons except ones that deal energy damage. Ooze: Satanic ichor has the traits and immunities common to all oozes. Telepathy (Su): Satanic ichor can communicate telepathically with any creature within 100 feet that has a language. Vessel of Flesh (Su): If it succeeds at an attack roll against a living creature, satanic ichor can enter the creature’s body through one or more orifices (usually the mouth, nostrils, or ears) or an open wound. The target gets a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the satanic ichor’s Hit Dice + its Charisma modifier) to keep the satanic ichor from entering and taking control of its body. If the save fails, the satanic ichor seizes control of the creature’s body, using it as a vessel to commit murder and other atrocities. A remove curse spell can expel satanic ichor from a creature’s body, but the caster must succeed at a level check (1d20 + caster level) or the spell fails (DC 10 + 1/2 the satanic ichor’s Hit Dice + its Charisma modifier). The creature possessed by satanic ichor has no memory of the possession once the satanic ichor is expelled. If the host drops to 0 or fewer hit points, the satanic ichor inside spills out through the mouth, ears, and nostrils and tries to commandeer a new “vessel” as quickly as possible. While possessing a creature, satanic ichor cannot be attacked directly. A living creature possessed by satanic ichor takes 1d2 points of temporary Constitution damage per day, or 1d6 points per day if the satanic ichor’s size category is larger than its host’s.
