  1. Steve, Last night at our weekly Champs game, a dispute arose between two players. The GM requested we go to you for the definitive answer. The dispute: one player contended that the passing throw maneuver allows the character to continue to move :after: striking his/her target. The other argued that while the maneuver allowed for a full move, the movement ceased one the blow was attempted, leaving the characters right next to each other. Could you help us out? Many Thanks, Speedball
  2. Re: RDU sourcebook—help us gauge your interest! I agree that a book of short stories--or a novel--would be great, but I think a sourcebook has more appeal for him at the moment. I think he envisions some extended vignettes, culled from key moments in the RDU's history, being included, so that might satisfy the desires for story-telling.
  3. Re: RDU sourcebook—help us gauge your interest! This is very encouraging, folks, thanks. What kind of price would you expect on a .pdf or book?
  4. Re: RDU sourcebook—help us gauge your interest! That's great, Aylwin. When you say you'd be interested in background stories of the characters, do you mean typical write-ups involving a character's origin, etc., or would you like to see longer stories or some aspects of the characters explored more fully? I'm trying to get a sense of balance between putting in too much and putting in too little...
  5. Re: RDU sourcebook—help us gauge your interest! BG--Thanks for your thoughts. The idea hasn't gotten so far yet that we've gone about figuring out the rights situation. I did speak with Storn yesterday about it and he's happy to supply all the art he's done over the years (which is a heck of a lot), so the main characters would all have Storn's usual high-quality work.
  6. Herophiles, I am on a mission to convince my friend and long-standing GM that there is a market for a Hero supplement or sourcebook based on the campaign world he has created over the last 20 years. Many of you have already read about the Red Dragon Universe on these boards, as RDU Neil has been a prolific poster over the years. You’re also familiar with at least one of the players, Storn Cook (yes, *the* Storn Cook) who has single-handedly provided most of the character artwork over the years. But what, you ask, is the RDU? The best way for me to briefly describe the RDU is to compare it to the DC Comics “Elseworld” books. Many of the characters of the Champions Universe exist, but they function more as a supporting cast; Doctor Destroyer, for example, died some years ago, of “natural causes.” The RDU has been at times Silver Age in tone, and has swung into Bronze/Iron Age at other times. It has incorporated real world events, like the collapse of the World Trade Center, and posits an Earth where a mysterious Crystal Barrier has formed over part of Asia. In my opinion, it’s been the finest example of a GM-generated universe I’ve had the luck to have a small hand in participating. So, my questions are these: What interest, if any, do you have in a sourcebook or supplement that outlines the history, leading characters, and prominent organizations of a universe of this kind? Along with a history of the universe and character write-ups, what do you want to see in a product like this? To what degree does the art in a product affect your willingness to buy it? Would you, for example, be more likely to buy a product that had Storn’s art laced through it? Are you more likely to buy a .pdf, or a hard copy? Thanks in advance for your help and consideration!
  7. Re: Senses in a multipower--legal build? As it's currently built, he could use more than one at once, though. He has plenty of points in the multi. Does that change your call to allow it?
  8. Hi All, Long time player, first time GM-to be here, so thanks in advance for whatever help you can be. I think I remember that multipowers aren't supposed to have senses in them, but I could be wrong, as I don't have either my 5th Ed or hero designer with me at the moment. I'm going through a player's character write-up to offer comments. A little more info in case you need it: the character has an "eye-based" multipower that includes N-Ray, Night vision, microscopic, range mods, telepathy (he can see the truth) and a couple of other things. The campaign is of the 100+100 Weird West variety. Thanks again for any help.
  9. Re: Weapon Write-Ups for Firearms available in 1877? Anyone? Thanks CB. The post is ancient, so I don't know if he'll still have them, but it's worth a shot! Anyone else have any while I'm waiting for a response?
  10. Re: Western Era Firearms Hey Fox1: I'd love to get my hands on those write-ups, but the link you posted doesn't work any more. Do you still have them? Thanks! Speedball
  11. Hi all, I figure someone out there must have gone through the trouble of writing up stats for guns that were available in the "Old West:" The Sharp's .50 Cal, The Gatling gun, and all those good pieces of iron. I've seen them in other games, but would prefer not to have to convert them if someone else has already done a good job him/herself. Can anyone point the way? Thanks, Speedball, potential first time GM...
  12. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I hope it's fair to assume that those are *not* pockets for semtex on his vest? He does give the phrase "muscular Christianity" a whole new meaning. Nice work as ever, Storn.
  13. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals... Another great submission--my GM will be ecstatic that I've come with write-ups prepared. Thanks. A quick question: There seems to be a disagreement on the cost of "Takes no stun." One construct has it at 60 (Bolo's) but the others I've been are 45. Am I missing something, like I did with the cost of armor for automatons?
  14. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals...
  15. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals...
  16. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals... Love the helper 'bot, Egyptoid. Kind of like an automated Jarvis/Alfred...
  17. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals... Bolo--That's a nice build, thanks. A couple of questions: 30 points for 5/5 worth of armor--do you have a typo there? How do you find that combat goes for this construct? I want to make sure that the 'bot doesn't unbalance the game, while at the same time I don't want a build that will just get knocked out the first phase that villains for their actions... Thanks again.
  18. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals...
  19. Re: Challenge: deisgn the Machinist's pals... Bueller? Bueller?
  20. Re: Is it permissible to use real company names? As long as you don't libel or defame the companies in question (without obvious satirical intent), there's no legal exposure. But, as others have mentioned, it's probably more interesting to create your own companies for the most part, largely because it gets rid of players' preconceptions about them. On the other hand, maybe that's what you're trying to exploit. Twisting things around a bit--making a seemingly 'nice' company into a world-eating beheamoth, for example, could be fun. Or turning Halliburton (depending on your socio-political perspective) into a bunch of girlscouts... That could be its own fun.
  21. Hi all, I'm playing a technopathic character called the Machinist (started at 350pts., now up to 411) and one of his new powers is to summon up a robot helper based on 122 points with up to 122 points in disads (no more than 25 points in one category). I was curious to see what sort of things you folks foresee him building and what your write-ups might look like. The first one that occurred to me is a spy-bot (think Mr. Terrific's spheres). Another would be a tunneler. Others? Ideas and write-ups are appreciated!
  22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Ewwww.... ...but only in the nicest possible way. I mean, the guy's basically throwing a super-spitball, right?
  23. Re: All Your Base Belong to Us I'm pretty sure the GM will give us the shed and tunnel for nothing, since he hasn't made a map of it or mentioned it in game--I think it's more of a device of convenience. Maybe later in the game we'll install some kind of security system in the tunnel or hut that would make it sensible to map out the areas. My understanding of concealment vs. anonymity is that the former hides it from people who are actively looking for it, while the latter just erases the records that the place exists and that once a person knows that there's a base, s/he wouldn't have any trouble finding it. Is that others' reading of the difference as well, or have I screwed up the rules? Bolo--that's another nice write-up, though the Def/Body make me wonder what happens to us the first time someone decides to fire some kinda super-torpedo at the wall.!
  24. Re: All Your Base Belong to Us oh--and I should've included this in the original: the base is indeed circular and has 4 floors.
  25. Re: All Your Base Belong to Us An excellent question: there's an access tunnel from the shore leading to an abandoned shed. Think: GM fiat...
