  1. Re: All Your Base Belong to Us Bolo-- That looks good, but I don't think I can talk our GM into giving us a 100-point rebate!
  2. Re: All Your Base Belong to Us 512 hexes is correct. I'm working off the map supplied by the GM.
  3. My team (the Century Station Saints: Mass-ter, The Bogeyman, Xerox, The Machinist, and Psi-kick) recently stumbled upon an abandoned underwater base in the course of an adventure and we decided collectively to make it our own. So, here's the challenge/invitation/plea: post your base designs that follow the following guidelines... underwater/urban placement 512" area as cheaply/efficiently built as possible, since we don't have a lot of points with which to play. The Century Station Saints thank you in advance...
  4. Power, sure--but what about speed? Might there be room for a Speedster in the roster? Also, it looks like the characters are all children of heroes or villains. Is there an opportunity for 1st generation mutants as well?
  5. Re: Nonfiction books covering superheroes: any hints? I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but "The Comic Book Encyclopedia" by Ron Goulart. I'm not crazy about it, but my students like it as a primer.
  6. Re: Nonfiction books covering superheroes: any hints? Our Gods Wear Spandex is quite good--my gf got it for me a few days ago. Depending on what you're looking for, you might also pick up: "Art Out of Time: Unknown Comics Visionaries," by Dan Nadel "Hong Kong Comics" by Wendy Wong "The Supervillain Book," edited by Gina Misiroglu and Michael Eury (foreword by Stan Lee)
  7. Re: The Forte campaign turned 20 today Congratulations on the anniversary. I'd be curious to see the characters as they were first played and how they looked 20 years later... Want to post them?
  8. Re: Power Question: Invisible to Infra-red Is there an IR perception other than sight? The consensus (limited as the numbers have been) seems to be -1 tho, so thanks for the responses. I'll go with that. 10 points does seem an awful lot to pay for IR invisibility, so I may choose another venue to invest in.
  9. Hey there, My cold-based character is looking towards future expansions that make sense and I was thinking that it makes sense that infra-red sensors wouldn't pick him up. How would you build this: Invisible: sight group (only vs. infra-red -?) If so, what value would you assign the modifier? I was thinking -2, since the utility of appearing invisible only to infra-red would be somewhat limited, but I might be biased, since I'm the player. Is there some other way to build this that isn't too munchkin-y? Thanks in advance.
  10. Re: Favorite Anti-Brick tricks? I have a cold-based character named Tundra. He's pretty good with bricks. Option 1: Dex drain (4d6). He can't hurt what he can't hit. Option 2: Speed Drain (3d6). He can't hit when he can't move!
  11. Sorry if this is a repost of an earlier thread. I tried a search to no avail. I have Hero Designer and when I click on "Flying Grab," it gives me the following description: "Grab two limbs, 30 Str for holding on, Full move" I don't have the ultimate speedster, but when I read this above, I assume that if I successfully grab someone, I take that person with me while I full move. Is this everyone else's reading as well? Connected questions: Does the victim of the grab have an opportunity to break the hold before the end of the maneuver (other than casual strength) ? Let's say the Speedster is running at a rate of 30" and the victim of the grab has running 6". If the speedster simply lets go of the victim, what happens? I would assume the victim would go sprawling, much like someone who jumped out of a moving car. How would you assign damage and side effects? Last question: Let's say the same Speedster is running at 30", performs a grab and then essentially runs the victim into a wall, much like Marvel's Northstar (and I'm sure many other speedsters) used to do. How would you assign damage--like falling damage? I'm not clear on the physics here. Would it be an automatic hit (literally hitting the broad side of a barn)? Thanks in advance!
  12. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion Gosh--I don't remember this fight *at all.* I remember fighting some guy (Metalstone?) in the park...maybe this is a preview? I can't for the life of me recall what that big bundle is, if it isn't Metalstone. This is fun--like reading a whole new book!
  13. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion
  14. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion Reading through that series of posts reminds me why I loved (and continue to love) playing with this group and playing this character. Neil, your plotting is so consistently excellent and makes such allowances for character development that it really is astounding. Rereading this brought me right back to exactly how painful a decision it was for Joe (Speedball) to kill Kid Fantastic and how messed up he was (and still is) about that and Arcsilver's death, for which he feels responsible. It does make me wonder how I escaped without assigning him more psych lims based on these posts, but I guess the guy is wounded enough already... "good stuff" doesn't really begin to cover it.
  15. Re: Potential Campaign: Alpha Flight or Superhero Socialism This sounds like a fun campaign. Sign me up. Would players need to pay for these package deal skills out of their points, or are they considered 'gimmes'? Ditto for the disads--are they part of the 150, or over and above it?
  16. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion And allllllll of them are gonna have to get through me to take my spot! I do have a suggestion in case the pbem thing does get going again--I've been part of a couple of games on Herocrentral and they seem to go well. No chance of lost emails robbing posterity, good interactive features, etc. Dont know if you've had a chance to check it out, Neil, but I think it's a top-notch site.
  17. Re: PBEM - RDU: The Mavericks - Example & Discussion "I've considered starting up PBeM games again" yesyesyesyesyesyesyes!
  18. Re: CHAR: Thor. (Marvel Style) I scanned earlier posts to see if you'd addressed this already and I didn't see anything... Why no rPD or rED?

    Drown

Re: Drown I had a character who manipulated air with a similar effect. The GM and I built the power in a multipower framework as: Can't....Breathe: (Total: 72 Active Cost, 58 Real Cost) Energy Blast 3d6, Continuous (+1), No Normal Defense (+1) (45 Active Points); Conditional Power Power does not work in Uncommon Circumstances (Won't Work in a Vacuum; -1/4) (Real Cost: 36) plus Drain REC 1d6, Delayed Return Rate (points return at the rate of 5 per Minute; +1/4), Ranged (+1/2), Continuous (+1) (27 Active Points); Conditional Power Power does not work in Uncommon Circumstances (Won't Work in a Vacuum; -1/4) (Real Cost: 22) Obviously not everything fits for what you're trying to build for your character, but I think the combination of the NND EB and the Rec Drain are particularly effective.
  20. Based on the 'Worst Battle Ever" thread, I thought I'd throw this one out there. Groundrules: the fight must be between two individuals, *not* between teams. How you judge "Greatest" is entirely subjective. Ready..... GO!
  21. Re: A Snazzy Heading Would Just Plain Spoil It I'm just hoping they make it into a whole episode!
  22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I'll be happy to post mine as soon as I get it typed onto my new machine.
  23. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Just FYI, the first character, played in a teen champs campaign, is named SunVolt--he's (obviously) an energy blaster who's trying desperately not to get kicked off the sports teams (which is what'll happen if the school finds out he's a metahuman). The second character, named Govannon (the Welsh god of the forge) is in Recluse's Herocentral game, "Of Masks and Metahumans." He's an immortal brick (again, obviously) who loves to lay down the whoopass for justice. Problem is, he doesn't remember his own past... Thanks again to Storn for some great commission work!
  24. Re: Long Distance Gaming Thanks Doc! As soon as I've got my new computer up, I'll take a look at the sites and programs listed.
  25. Re: Long Distance Gaming I play a couple of games over on herocentral curently (A Game of Chance; of Masks and Metahumans) and have tried to get the real-time chat function to work without any success. I'm getting a new computer this week, so maybe the problem is my old, smoking Gateway and not the site or program. Any others? Anyone found a way to interact with a bunch of folks with voice capability?
