  1. Re: useful grabs

Nothing wrong with a little choke hold action. It's useful, and can constitute any sort of "joint-break" or "submission hold" with the proper tweaking. My martial artist-detective uses his own mixed martial arts which draw on South American Judo and his master's own style of Kung Fu. He uses the blocks, dodges, disarms and chops from "Son" kung fu, and a choke hold with Variable SFX (+1/4) to simulate the submission moves of south american judo.

  2. Re: Help build power?

I would go with a modified version of Environmental Movement. While nausea isn't exactly an enviroment, but there are environments that can cause it, and you can use EM to simulate the ability to not because dizzy or nauseated.

Just start with defining what penalties those effects would give the character, and buy the PSLs verses those penalties. Technically, whatever would cause those penalties wouldn't matter.

If those effects are typically modled in your campaigns using Adjustment Powers (Drain DEX/CON, or whatever), you can just buy Power Defense with the Limitation Only Versus Dizzy/Nausea Effects.

Personally, I don't think an ability like this should cost a lot of points. No more than 5 really.

While everyone made a good effort to build this power, I think Dust Raven's idea is the one I'll go with. Thank you to all, very helpful.

  3. Re: transfer/aid w/ limited points

You're definitely looking at two powers here. But the problem is, an AE Selective Drain is fairly expensive. You're looking at a (+1.25) advantage on a power that's already 15 points per die.

You could alternatively buy it as a Drain, AE Selective, and link an END reserve to it. Then run an AE Selective Succor off the end reserve, triggered by the Drain (looking at a +1.5 advantage now), limited Only Up To Active Points Drained (-1/2). Now you're chewing up not a ton of your own endurance, and you're having a noticeable effect on the battle.

By any chance, is this power idea from City of Heroes? Sounds familiar.

  4. Re: Size Matters

This actually sound slike a Shapeshift with linked Growth, HKA and Flight/Extra Limbs. If you build it this way, you no longer need to worry about the DCV levels, KB resistance, distinctive features, and all that ancillary crap. Remember that either form can be the "base", power-wise; the player then can choose to be in whichever form she wishes. Best of all, one character sheet, you save a tree.

  5. I'm looking to give a character immunity to natural or induced dizziness or nausea. I think it's probably a riff on Life Support, but there may be another, more elegant way to build it than to buy "LS: Immunity to dizziness and nausea" and put an arbitrary number on char points on it (4 I think).

    1. If this is correct, how many points is it worth?

    2. Can you build it better? More comprehensively?

    ty in advance

  6. Re: I need help with this Character Concept. Suggestions and Opinions.

Do you have access to the BBB? Reminds me a whole lot of Jaguar. Actually, I don't see any problem with the game balance. He's midrange in a lot of categories, which is fine as long as you don't have to have something you are the #1 BEST at. Some people do! You may wish to give him some sort of power which sets him apart. Some sort of empathy, mind control, telepathy, clairsentience, some form of Desolid, autofire on his hand to hand attacks, all good places to start looking. I find that Duplication and Summon and XDM are great for making up powers which are potentially powerful in their niche, and unique for not a lot of AP or RP.

  7. Re: Character Ideas

Last night, I was thinking about non-archetypal characters, some of whom break the mold, so to speak, and some who have some precedent in the comics.

Broadcast Empath: This person can sense and instill/remove emotions in his or her target. This character could give people courage, inspire them to love, calm them down, bolster their self-image... or the opposite.

Android: A humanoid robot character. Strives to be more human. Possible powers include increased durability (both defenses and con/body/stun), flight, a high SPD, interesting sensory powers, magnetic powers, some type of energy blast or RKA,

Nature Elemental: May have barklike skin, grow tendrils to simulate Extra Limbs with stretching or Entangle, enhansed movement (carried aloft by the trees themselves), have some sort of toxic spores or Mind Control spores, throw spines from its body, excrete sap with some biochemical power, call on the strength of the forest (added STR, costs END), or Summon "plant people" to help it.

Liquid metamorph: This character can turn his body into some sort of liquid. Damage reduction, Desolid, a "smothering" attack, or even Shape Shift like Mystique from the X-Men.

Cyber kinetic: Someone who can control machines with his or her mind. This character might overlap your computer character PC.. but imagine someone with the power of intuitional hyper-invention, and a bag of spare parts. Poof! Any gadget you may need! Well-simulated by a VPP. Add TK, Only Useable by Electronic/Mechanical (-1) with the Fine Manip adder, and Missile Reflection with the same lim (you can make enemies' weapons misfire or shoot their owners!), and you have a rounded support and combat power set.

And never, never underestimate the pure power and utility of swingin with the Megascale advantage.

  8. Re: Octopus, Centaur... what else?

You know, Carnage from Spider-Man was cool before they overxposed him. What about a tree/plant-elemental villain who can extend vines from any part of his body which is useful. They could carry him aloft, grab a beer from the other room, whip or grab his enemies... the uses are limited only by my tiny imagination. Mainly I like the beer thing.

  9. Re: Kingdom Come Casting Call

I gotta say, Mark Hamill has to be in this. Have him voice the Flash CGI (he can even stand in in front of the blue screen). Give Captain Marvel to Richard Moll. You have to have some A-lists in this, since comics are chic and people like superstars. Tom Hanks plays the Atom, Sean Connery can play Old Ollie, Jim Carey for J'onn, and Angelina Jolie is the only choice for WW. Oh! And Seth Green can voice Deadman.

  10. Re: Anyone else awaiting this?

Yeah...Sin City does look pretty sweet' date=' eben though all I've read was A Dame To Kill For.[/quote']

...that's all you need. All the stories are equally mind-blowing. That's one, though, which may translate so well to the big screen, nobody will ever think of it as a comic again. Which is a shame.

  11. Re: "Impaling/Pinning" Your Oppenent

What brings this up is a few months ago I had to get up at two a.m. to dispatch an O'possum that was killing chickens in our coop. Now a possum doesn't seem like much . . . at least 'till you've cornered one by flashlight. O'possums are tough little critters. This one I clobbered with a club and before disposing of it I decided to remove its head with my machete as possums are famous for (wait for it) playing possum. That's when I found out that they're really tough. I keep my machete nearly shaving sharp (brush the blade down my arm and it readily cuts the hair off), but it took a few good blows to the neck before it cut through (and the first blow immediatly pissed off the "dead" possum). Where the pinning maneuver comes in is the next month another possum had me dragging myself out in the wee hours to dispatch it. This time I went with a different tactic. I impaled it, pinning it to the ground, with a pitch fork. Satisfied it wasn't going anywhere and definately not thrilled with the idea of pulling the fork out for another stab and letting it have even a moment to do more than show me those fantastic rows of sharp teeth, I promptly fetched the flounder gig/fork and set about perforating it thouroughly.

PETA is going to burn your house down and try to give you a deadly disease.

And tongue-kiss your sons and daughters.

    GOOD SHOW!

Man, I wish I lived somewhere where I could kill stuff with my bare hands without getting thrown into a psychiatric prison...

  12. Re: I need a certain type of catastrophe

McCoy's idea has merit, but I atually prefer the social science/coicidence angle, where certain small changes in individual lives prevented large-scale innovation in certain key areas. If Bill Gates decides professiona l gambling is the at to go, we;re all using Macs... or whatever.
