  1. Re: Furry Champion's The Supermegatopia RPG is still for sale, and the Executioners RPG is about to go on sale, so.
  2. Re: Pokémon HERO Well, in Pokemon, you have a Special Attack stat, and a Special Defense stat. However, the closest thing to either is represented by one stat in HERO: ECV. ECV is used for both offense and defense, as far as I know. Well, is there a way to buy up one but not the other?
  3. Re: Pokémon HERO Okay, another problem. Is there a way to have a mental attack higher than a mental defense, or vice versa?
  4. Re: Building characters of different sizes I don't know if they accept laugh points here, but if so, here, have one of them.
  5. Re: Building characters of different sizes So I need to buy Hero's Bestiary, Fantasy Hero, and Star Hero. Okay.
  6. (I already looked in the FAQs and tried searching the boards, and neither turned up any fruit.... so...) How do you build characters of different sizes in HERO?
  7. Re: RPG.net The RPGnet forum rules are here. Threads are moved backstage or locked when one of these rules is broken; warnings are usually given (sometimes in private messages, sometimes in public) before the moderators take it to this step. Personal attacks are grounds for closing a thread; saying 'Palladium is full of poopy' is allowed, but saying 'Palladium players are full of poopy' is not.
  8. The previous question has reminded me of this question I've had in a while. I have not been able to find in the rulebook how to find the cost of a naked power advantage. What is it?
  9. Re: RPG.net No, not at all. RPGnet services a broad section of the RPG community. In that, you'll find people who like Hero, people who dislike Hero, and people who don't know or care about Hero either way. RPGnet is no more hostile to Hero than it is to Palladium, d20, GURPS, or any other system -- it's entirely in one's perception.
  10. I had tried to start up a RIFTS Hero game to playtest it for the review, to no avail. Anyhow, I put what conversions I had done here. http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96757
  11. I'm now using a spreadsheet to balance things out, so. I just did the elements (I'm leaving the dual-elements alone for now). Although it wasn't extremely difficult, it wasn't balanced -- a few elements (Psychic, Ghost, Dragon) gained 50+ points of powers, while poor Grass is more than -40! I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong...
  12. Here's my first conversion; this would be of Vulpix, one of my favorite pokés. Vulpix (41 points) Dexterity +5 (15 points) Ego +5 (10 points) ED +1 (1 point) Stun +10 (10 points) Endurance +10 (5 points) Ember (Fire, 5 END, 19 points): Energy Blast 3d6 (base cost 15; 15 active points) with Stun Only (-0) and Linked (lesser to greater, only use powers at full value, -3/4). (total modifier 4/7, final cost 9 points) WITH Drain Dexterity 2d6 (base cost 20) with Ranged (+1/2) and Returns At Rate Of 1/Turn (equal to 5/minute, +1/4) (total modifier 7/4, 35 active points); Linked (greater to lesser, only use powers at full value, -1/2) and Activation Roll 8- (-2); (total modifier 4/14, final cost 10 points) Tail Whip (Normal, 3 END, 28 points): Drain PD and ED 1d6 (base cost 10) with Drain Both PD and ED (+1/2), LOS Range (+1/2), Ranged (+1/2), and Returns At Rate Of 1/Turn (equal to 5/minutes, +1/4) (total modifier 11/4, active cost 28 points, final cost 28 points). Quick Attack (Normal, 5 END, 24 points): Hand-To-Hand Attack +3d6 (base cost 15, active cost 15); with HTH Fiat (-1/2) and Linked (lesser to greater, only use powers at full value, -3/4) (total modifier 4/7, final cost 9 points) WITH Dexterity +10 (30 points, 30 active points); with Only For Initiative (-1/2) and Linked (greater to lesser, only use powers at full value, -1/2) (total modifier 4/8, final cost 15 points) Flamethrower (Fire, 7 END, 28 points): Energy Blast 6d6 (base cost 30; 30 active points) with Stun Only (-0) and Linked (lesser to greater, only use powers at full value, -3/4). (total modifier 4/7, final cost 18 points) WITH Drain Dexterity 2d6 (base cost 20) with Ranged (+1/2) and Returns At Rate Of 1/Turn (equal to 5/minute, +1/4) (total modifier 7/4, 35 active points); Linked (greater to lesser, only use powers at full value, -1/2) and Activation Roll 8- (-2); (total modifier 4/14, final cost 10 points)
  13. How many printings/revisions has it gone through? I've been trying to compare notes with other people, but it doesn't seem like any page I'm talking about has what they're talking about, and vice versa. My copy says fourth printing, but I don't know if that means four out of five or four out of twenty.
  14. Capsule: Based on a read, or a single playtest. Less informative, less likely to be biased. My stock in trade (not by choice). Playtest: Based on a long playtest, such as the work Dan Davenport does. More informative, more likely to be biased. ("Oh, damn I hate the combat system! Little Jimmy was able to twist it around so much!" -- bad experiences coloring the review.) The first four pages of this thread disprove that.
  15. A bit more thought on this: I'm going to do Freezing as an Entangle, but Paralysis as a Drain OCV. Paralysis just makes your attacks miss more often, but an attack on a Frozen pokemon can un-freeze them. Still going to do Flinching as a Drain SPD. Confusion is going to be an Invisible-To-Sight Flash, I think.
  16. I don't want to know what are the extraordinary circumstances for Going Potty.
  17. That's why it's called a capsule review. As I said in the forum below the review, I could not find anyone willing to playtest it. I also have answered those questions you 'challanged' me to answer. Please read http://www.rpg.net/forums/phorum/rf08/read.php?f=2203&i=46&t=46 and my comments below.
  18. It's funny. I hear the same thing (including the suggestion that 'd20 deserves it but we don't', heh) on the Palladium and the Tri-Stat boards.
  19. Re: Re: Pokémon HERO Ooooh, elegant. Just add on an endurance cost, an' we're good to go...
  20. Re: Join me Falsehoods? I didn't know Hero had other than 12 segments per turn. Or that there were other than eight attributes. Or that AVLD of +3/4 cost less than NND of +1/2. Or that Elemental Control was not, in fact, retained. Or that Regeneration was not merged with Healing. Or that Aid's cost did not double between 4e and 5e. Or that 5e did not alter Requires A Skill Roll. Or that the presentation and editing of 5e are actually worse than 4e and 3e. Or that the art is not biased towards superheroes with the sum of their measurements greater than their point values. Or that R. Talsorian did not, in fact, sell the books that just arrived in my FLGS. I'm still trying to figure out where these falsehoods are.
  21. Re: Re: Pokémon HERO Well, here's some of the effects that can be had: -- Attack goes off, but at variable strength (25% to 200% of normal). -- The Pokémon attacks the wrong target. -- The Pokémon uses the wrong attack. This can be combined with the above two effects. -- The Pokémon sits down and refuses to attack. -- The Pokémon hurts itself. The more recent versions have added more, but that's the basics... And yes, that was an unusual power construct if I ever saw one.
  22. Re: Re: Review of 5e up on RPG.net Qamar: One, I do this with all my reviews; I did it with Anime d20 and After The Bomb, for example. And, please don't misrepresent me; I never said anything about Mr. Long.
  23. There's been a discussion on this going for over a year at RPGnet, and all sorts of ideas have been slung around -- pick and choose from those you like: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19039
  24. I've been trying to convert Pokémon abilities over to the HERO system. Although I've had some success (many powers are just Energy Blasts), there are some powers and effects I'm having trouble with. Effects: Confusion -- How would this be done? Extra Critical Hits -- Some Pokémon powers are only moderately damaging, but have extra critical hits, or special effects for critical hits. A few powers also boost the rate of critical hits. I have -no- idea how to go about this. Flinching -- Some attacks in Pokémon cause the target opponent to lose an action. Would this be a Drain SPD? Freezing/Paralysis -- How would this be done? Poison -- Am I right in thinking this would be an Energy Blast with Delayed Effect? Specific Powers: Metronome -- This Pokémon power uses a random power. I have no clue about doing this power either Mirror Move -- This Pokémon power lets the attacker use the last attack used against him. I'm guessing some sort of Variable Point Pool, but I'm not really sure. Softboiled -- This power, in Pokémon, drains the user's HP to boost the target's. I'm gussing this would be Healing with some modifier, but I'm not sure what modifier(s).
  25. http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/10/10053.phtml You may not agree with what I had to say, but that's what I thought of it.
