  1. Re: Silliest Disadvantage Ever

I have done' date=' which is why I started getting snarky with him. But I'll keep it cool for the next 24. No problem.[/quote']*spits out popcorn*

Hey! I was watching that! Turn it back!

    Aw, never mind. Sheesh.

  2. Re: Temporary Duplication

Dont have my books' date=' but what about just putting it on a Continuous Charge with a duration of 5 minutes?[/quote']First of all, I knew if I said the magic word-- "Lingering"-- you'd weigh in on this. :P

My only problem with Continuing Charges (for this power and for most other powers where it is sometimes suggested) is this: what if I don't want it to have Charges? Or... wait... could it be a Recoverable Charge? Now we're talkin'. One Recoverable Charge Lasting Five Minutes would mean that he could make one duplicate at a time that would last five minutes, and when that duplicate disappeared, the Charge would be considered recovered. Right?

If so, that's my answer. Yay.

  3. I'm on a Duplication kick right now. Mea culpa.

How would you build a temporary duplicate? In other words, a duplicate who, instead of recombining, just winks out of existence after five minutes or so.

Is Lingering applicable here? It's not an Instant power, but with Lingering you could specify exactly five minutes.

What about giving it Costs END and Uncontrolled, with an END Reserve that feeds Duplication exclusively so as to limit its duration?

  4. Re: How do you get players to role play in genre?

Interesting. We used to have a multiple-choice test for new inductees into the group. The questions were all derived from past gaming stories and experiences, so there's no way a new guy could possibly answer even one of them correctly, but if they could at least laugh at it, we knew they were okay.

Man, I wish I still had a copy of that thing....

  5. Re: The Duplication Paradox

If the duplicates are not under the players controll then its summon.

    Okay.

    Herodesigner ocasionaly gets things wrong.

    Of this, I am aware.

So... it seems to me like the only real advice on this so far is that I should pay the extra points on the duplicate and not get anything for the points. I find it hard to believe that this is what The Designers intended.

  6. Forgive me if this has come up before, but I see a weird paradox with Duplication. Well, okay, not a paradox per se, but an anti-loophole, at least.

I want to make an exact duplicate of myself. Fair enough. So I buy Duplication for 70 points to make a 350 point duplicate. However, if he's an exact duplicate, he also has Duplication for 70 points. It's either that or he has a full 70 points of other powers I, the original, don't have. I didn't want that; I just wanted one copy of myself.

Okay. So instead, I drop that to a 280 point duplicate. But that only costs 56 points, so now I'm 14 points up on my "exact" duplicate. I don't want that either; I want him to be a Xerox copy, just without the Duplication.

To make an exact copy (sans Duplication in the duplicate), and without any other Limitations on the power (Costs END, Extra Time, etc.), I'll always have to make him a 291-point duplicate.

This seems awkward to me, but I can't put my finger on exactly why. Does anyone else see this as weirdly restrictive?

  7. Re: Military Facility Maps

    Brilliant!

Or just bust out your old issues of Nintendo Power!

A friend of mine ran a Rolemaster one-off using the map from the Bunker level of Goldeneye, and, being the kind of guy he is, he kept it real-- right down to having some hobgoblins in red hats wielding longswords, other hobgoblins in black hats who fought with a club in either hand (we called the Klobb in Goldeneye the "club" because it was so crappy), and so on. He started the party in a jail cell with a lone guard pacing up and down the hallway, and was even prepared to have the party fight an endless stream of black-hatted, club-swinging hobgoblins if they made too much noise breaking out.

    Ah, Goldeneye....

  8. Re: Classes in Star Hero

In Star Hero' date=' you can think of archetypes this way: pilot, engineer, doctor, security, scientist, technician. As far as I can remember, most sci-fi groups fall into these areas. The various [i']Star Trek[/i] series are my basis for the list, but one could also break down Star Wars, Babylon 5, Stargate, and most other space settings -- heck, even Quark -- to these general areas.

Bob, please tell me you're already hard at work on Quark Hero. :bounce:

  9. Re: Military Facility Maps

The Missile Silo isn't what I'm looking for directly' date=' but does work. I can use this instead of one of the facilities I had in mind. But I at least need some sort of bunker map.[/quote']

Here is what you will need:

    1. Graph paper

    2. Pencil

    3. Nintendo64

    4. Goldeneye

  10. Re: How do you get players to role play in genre?

I'm reminded, as I so often am, of an episode of Batman: The Animated Series.

A guy shows up in Gotham (background story snipped) calling himself Lockup. He's brutally tough on criminals-- uses unnecessary, life-threatening force, and so on. So Batman confronts him, and it turns out all he wants to do is work with Batman to fight crime; he just doesn't think Batman takes it far enough. Naturally, they have a fight, Triangle wins, etc.

However, I suggest having the PCs encounter a Lockup-type vigilante who goes so far as to kill on a regular basis. The PCs are fighting some baddies, and Too Much Force Man shows up to help, but starts slaughtering thugs, killing unconscious opponents, and generally being an asshole. What do the PCs do? Do they set him straight? Are they appalled by his behavior? If so, then they will have turned a corner, and you can probably continue to steer them away from meaningless violence into less-meaningless violence.

And if they think Too Much Force Man is cool, pack your bags, throw in your five bucks for pizza, and get the hell out of there.

  11. Re: Lookie what I just bought!

I have those ... along with the villain set' date=' some of the blisters, the old DC Heroes figs, the old MSH figs and some odd no-name brands that I found ... I believe they're all packed at my parent's house :) They were always fun to play with[/quote']

Where do your parents live, and do they have a security system?

  12. Re: Bronze Age Team Build

Wolverine + Robin = Raised by wolves and barely civilized, he's unstoppable in combat and can scarcely be trained to use a knife and fork. Name: Feral.

Storm + Raven = Plane-touched mistress of the magical arts who uses her talents to create powerful weather-oriented effects. Name: Actually, I like Storm Raven. :bounce:

  13. Re: New Character

0 TF: Custom Adder, Small Motorized Ground Vehicles [Notes: Custom Mod is Everyman Skill]

Y'know, if you just highlight and delete the words "Custom Adder" in HD, you don't have to explain yourself everytime. :bounce:

  14. Re: Ripping Telephone Poles From The Ground

I'm at work now without my trusty book.

Somebody out there refresh my memory as to how you determine damage a thrown object does to it's target? I remember the rules for hitting (balance, aerodynamics etc..) but not damaging, and it's driving me crazy!

Wouldn't it be DEF + BODY of the object, plus STR, but not to exceed total dice greater than twice the DEF + BODY of the object?

In fact... hmm... a thrown manhole cover (Range Based on STR EB, Double KB) would be a great standard brick trick.

  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

GM: It explodes on your chest crashing through your forcefield, you take xxx number of body and are WAY out! The cycle was Nuclear powered.

    Cos: "Nuclear Powered???"

    GM: Yeah it was haha

Pyramid: Damn.. I want one of those!

GM: Cos you fly backwards out over the city and end up in the Atlantic, fortuntatley for you, you won't drown and should wake up in about a week.

Maybe it's just me, but... this game sounds awful. I mean, like, not fun. From what you've described, it sounds like the GM plays favorites and the (only?) other player actively tries to make trouble. Please tell me it's better than it seems.

  16. Re: Fantastic Four (half FYI, half OT)

In following with the great success Marvel has had in the past several years with motion pictures based on its characters, casting is about to open up for a film based on the Fantastic Four. I'd bet (just as an educated guess) that you can look for it in theaters about a year from now.

You can look for it, but you won't find it. I'll believe it when I see it (and I'll bet a dollar I won't). Besides, they already made a great Fantastic Four movie! Why must they ruin the classics by remaking them?
  17. Re: Opinion poll

Well' date=' I tried this, but once I hit the guy with the hammer he just started screaming and ran away. I can't get close enough to him to complete the experiment. Some people just have no interest in science.:whistle:[/quote']

Hit him with the dowel first!
