  1. Re: Sci-Fi character portraits Thanks everyone for all the links, it's greatly appreciated. Spent the entire afternoon clicking through, got some really great stuff that'll definately come in handy. Naturally, more links are always welcome though. Again, thanks everybody for the tremendous help.
  2. Sorry if this has been posted before, I did a few searches and came up with nothing. I'm trying to put together a few "files" for my players to look over of assorted npc's, and was hoping to include some character portraits. Normally I would just have a friend draw them, but he moved and the rest of my group is artistically challenged, so I've looked around online and have found very, very few resources (my google-fu is extraordinarily weak). So I was wondering if any here used/knew of any good sites that catered to science-fiction character art (not specifically rpg-oriented, any art will do). And no screen-caps or photographs, I'm trying to stick strictly to art for all visual aids to keep it consistent. Any help is greatly appreciated, and again, hope I'm not digging up old threads by posting this. Thanks all.
  3. Re: Need Book Recommendations I quadruple-third Heinlein, got started on "Stranger in a Strange Land" when I was in middle school, been hooked ever since. "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" is a personal favorite of mine from his juvenile line, though I'll admit to not having read much more than his Future Histories, Starship Troopers, and just about every one of his more adult books. "the Moon is a Harsh Mistress" might work though. Bester's "The Stars My Destination" (isn't it called "Tiger! Tiger!" or something in Europe?) is fantastic, though pretty far out there. "Armor" by John Steakly (I think we're referring to the same book, so I'm stealing the author's name from above) is fantastic, though for some might be a bit of a struggle to get through at times. If we're going for a more juvenile slant, also there's the entire "Robotech" series, which adapted the tv series. I know, tv adaptation, but even while kind of butchering the source, with material that fantastic, it's hard to go too wrong. About to read "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman, but can't say how good that's going to be. Not sure if I should read that or Vernor Vinge's "A Deepness in the Sky" next (just finished "A Fire in the Deep", so I'll probably go with the latter). I'd highly recommend Venge, but can be pretty deep and complex, not to mention long. Anyone read either and have any opinions?
  4. Re: Another hard-SF campaign background Wow, incredibly good read. Instantly got me thinking up entire campaigns. Thanks a lot for the link. Also got me to finally go over to your site Nyrath and check it out. Great stuff! Wish I had stopped being so thrice-damned lazy months ago and checked it out sooner.
  5. Re: Alen Wars Supers I had a similar idea, but instead of just setting it in Alien Wars I wanted my group of normals to somehow go to an alternate dimension (and back a few hundred years) to the mid 2020's, popping out in the middle of the Xenovores invading Earth directly. The various supergroups of the era had banded together to form their own military groups in lieu of the destruction of Earth's traditional forces, and were barely holding on for survival. Because the 'Vores had invaded prior to Tyranon's attack in 2020, superpowers never left the galaxy. The main purpose was to run a Star Hero campaign set in Terran Empire using the Alien Wars adventures/setting, but also showing my players a kind of "Days of Future Past" for their Champions characters, who I would NPC for them (though I did consider just using some rubber explanation to put their own psyche on that of their Champ's char. to use for that one game). Either way though, I think using powered chars. in the Alien Wars setting could be terribly cool.
  6. Re: Worlds Of Empire Review I'm a pretty huge fan also, they went into enormous detail on a wide range of planets. Useful for quite a while, I'd say. My only gripe is the lack of any detail I've been able to find on the Sol System. They briefly mentioned cities and colonies throughout the TE books, but I would have loved to have seen Earth and Mars of the 27th century, with Earth covered in Megacities and all. A minor gripe though, really. Hm, there wouldn't happen to be anybody out there who's actually seen/has a map of the sort, would there? If so, that'd be infinitely helpful.
  7. Re: Maps That would be incredibly helpful, it's kind of a pain connecting the dots between all of the sector maps.
  8. Re: ROBOTECH Hero Haha, wow, I never noticed your compilation of conversions, Liaden. And you included my thread on Robotech as well! I was just thinking of going back to working on that campaign too, what with Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles coming out soon *crosses fingers*. And good luck Raven. If you ever need any backgrounds as far as history on characters, races, tech, etc., feel free to ask. In addition to having watched the show a few dozen times in all its incarnations, I still have all my old Paladeum Robotech rpg books lying around (though filled with errors they may be), in addition to the entire book series, comics, the old Robotech Guide, etc. etc. Always good to hear of Robotech still being played. It makes my heart glad.
  9. Re: Mutant Campaign Idea Very interesting concepts MfH. I really enjoyed the ideas you had concerning the probable enormous amount of mutants in Japan. Great stuff. Question though: when did you stop reading the Marvel U? Because interestingly enough, most of this has occurred, either in the 616 U, or the Ultimate line. In the Ultimate X-Men series, Magneto formed a mutant nation alongside Xavier in the Savage Land, a veritible mutant utopia. There were indeed mutant camps in the US. And in the 616, a lot of similar events did occur. Magneto eventually became ruler of his own nation of mutants, but instead of the Savage Land, it was Genosha. Mutants from all over the world migrated to this island nation, where Magneto ruled as a kind and just ruler, content with finally attaining mutant freedom. Until Genosha was destroyed, that is. After this, mutants all over the world were forced to form their own communities (at this time, the mutant population increased exponentially in the past few years, rising to the millions pre-Genosha), including a burrough in New York nicknamed "Mutant Town" where mutants could live relatively at peace. The X-Men didn't move to this locale, but instead Xavier did indeed go public, setting up corporate outlets around the world called "X-Corps" where any mutants who were outcast or in need of help could go and get what they needed (using almost all of the Worthington/Xavier capital, in addition to many other rich backers). The Estate was expanded, and doors thrown open to any mutant child, and now is home to dozens of mutants, of which the New Mutants are only one class (all the students were split into a sort of mini-team/advisory class, the New Mutants, Hellions, Corsairs, etc.). And Emma Frost is more than just a financial backer currently, she's the Co-Headmaster of the School, alongside Cyclops (Xavier left for Genosha, in hopes of rebuilding it in secret, though his current whereabouts are unknown after the infamous 'House of M' debacle). Anyways, just noticed that there were a great deal of similarities with your timeline and what Marvel's done in the past few years. Great ideas overall though, keep up the good work.
  10. Re: This week on "Champions"... Legion-X in Ultimate Conspiracy Pt. 2 There's no turning back now! Galactica has finally snapped out of her trance, but will she be able to keep on fighting when she discovers that half of her teammates fell at her own hand? And what of the students, buried under the rubble of the Legion-X Mansion and UNTIL's own Helicarrier? Will Ironhide be able to keep the surviving team members fighting? What is Nightflight's part in all this? And is Kenix Kil really back from the dead? (Watch the episode "Kil'ing me softly with your guns" to see the death of founding team member Kenix Kil) And who is this helmeted master of magnetism? Find out this week, same X-Time, same X-Place! Guest Starring Moon Spectre, the Fiery Fenix, and the Red Streak.
  11. Re: Defending your base against EMP and other magnetic attacks... Don't know how I missed the Difficult to Dispel advantage. Thanks a ton guys, appreciate all of your input. Normally I wouldn't worry so much about our base being destroyed (not terribly uncommon), but this time about half of our team (all NPC's, fortunately) were killed in the ensuing chaos. Thanks again guys, you've been a huge help.
  12. Re: Defending your base against EMP and other magnetic attacks... Actually it was defined as a Dispel: all electricity powers (20d6 I believe, could be wrong though). Thanks for the quick reply, ghost.
  13. Hi all, I don't post often, but just had a quick question. My team's mansion/base (Legion-X is basically our version of the X-Men) was recently destroyed by a much maligned "master of magnetism" who used a localized EMP to destroy our security system before completely ripping it apart, piece by piece, and dropping the UNTIL helicarrier (yeah, we stole one from SHIELD) ontop of it. I've been looking through the rules, and was wondering what the best way of shielding all systems from EMP attacks, and how I would construct the base from non-ferrous materials in game terms. Sorry if this has been covered before, couldn't find it doing searches. Any help at all is appreciated (as are any and all criticisms), thanks everyone.
  14. Re: Moon Knight........ After reading a bit about him in the Earth X (and subsequent Universe and Paradise X series) maxiseries, I did some internet research on the character and completely fell for the pulpy badassness of the character. So I ordered almost all of the comics (missing like 4 from the original series, and like 10 from the Marc Spector series) off of E-Bay a few months ago. Completely agree with most everyone on here. The original run was fantastic, Doug Moench did a great job creating a Marvel hero who rarely even fought supervillains, and had an incredibly mysterious/ambigious past/present. Just a great character overall. Once it got to the Fist of Khonshu series though... I really liked the moon-based superstrength, but the whole Triad of elders or whatever, and all of his egyptian gadgets were far too hokey... as well as the costume change. The beginning of the Marc Spector series was really good, a huge relief (though I missed the multiple identities), but quickly degraded once he got the armor. But once Doug Moench brought him back to life (literally), the 2 mini-series they made were great. I've been playing a MK homage in DC lately ("Moon Spectre" aka Jon Raith aka Alexander Knight aka Max Bulitt), mixing the moon based powers with the mult. identities. Probably my favorite Champs character thus far.
  15. Wow, that's quite an impressive collection of stats. These do help a ton, I'm trying to make stats for the Macross Saga era, so a bit of downgrading for the ones given should help. Being new to the system though, I'm not really sure whether I should worry about the differences between 4E and 5E. For example, should the weapon damages be upgraded, to match the power of examples given in TUV? Again, thanks for all the help guys, the tiniest contribution is much appreciated.

    Robotech!

Hi, I'm new to the forums (and HERO system, admittedly), and I've been parusing the site for a few weeks now. I've been playing Champions for a while, and recently decided to try out a Robotech game using Hero (we grew out of Palladium's Robotech RPG in 8th grade). I saw a few threads about making veritechs, but none were finished. Would it be possible for someone to post their Veritech (and other Robotech stats, like Zentraedi armor)? ANY help is more than welcome. Thanks for any help, I'm looking forward to my time here on the boards.
