  1. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I did this so I could calculate WGAC for myself, then I added some that I remembered and other controversial ones mainly because they got most replies & views.

    Thread name WGAC Thread Champ
    WAG1 0.335	4848
    Catsuit 2.048	3297
    Burning Times 0.945	534
New Avatar for Kara	2.451	883
    A&Q 0.659	2244
    Opposites 0.374	473
    Dr D v Takefanes	0.598	1526
    Bush G/M 0.951	1092
    Good 4 SF 1.071	672.4
    Canada G/M 1.101	764.6

As you can see Durin's (aka RPMiller's) New Avatar for Kara is ahead of Catsuit of the WGAC index. Is this thread the one with the highest WGAC index? Can a thread beat it?

I also propose a WGAC standard. Any thread has to fulfill ONE of these criteria -- the replies has to exceed 250 posts and the views has to be over 1000. Any thread that meets this critera can be WGACized.

Other critera I thought of is:

    150 replies / 1000 views

    500 replies / 1000 views.

What does the LRTE posters reckon? Post your views here rather than starting a poll (more posts for this thread) :).

  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Why wait? Why not post a 'page of hot chicks' now? After all' date=' if you get people [b']used[/b] to coming here, they'll keep checking back, hoping to find more pics. And maybe they'll read something they'll post a reply to while they're here looking.

The sooner you start 'publicizing', the better, IMO. :)

Also the more people who falsely come here to this thread looking for more pics the more views the thread gets.
  3. Re: Another topic to discuss: The First NGD thread

As I think about it, was Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" spun from a skit from his variety show?

Hmm, can't think of stuff before the 70s but I know there were spin-offs earlier. Of course it's a bit convoluted as well with the movement from radio to television - what about radio=>TV spin-offs??

Let me rephrase, which TV show was first spun off from another TV show? And which was the first sucessful one? (also knowing that there are many criterea for "successful", hense discussionable. :) )

  4. Re: Nemesis

Some of the other subjects I believe she should ahve studies include: Physics (for gadgets and knowledge on the natural world, tempreture, velocity etc), Philosophy (ethics, logic and I reckon she'll need this)**, economics (if she is running her family business empire).

    **

    What is Philosophy?

The study of philosophy develops analytical rigour and the ability to criticise and reason logically. It allows you to apply these skills to many contemporary and historical schools of thought and individual thinkers, and to questions on such subjects as the fundamental nature of reality, the nature, possibility and limits of knowledge, the nature and grounds of moral judgements, the nature of the mind and its relation to the body, and the fundamental principles of language, science, religion, art and literature.

And a suggestion: under a assumed name she goes on a pilgramage to the Shaolin Temple in China. They she learns an ancient martial art. Why do they help her is up to them, they have their reasons, and possibily to help her find peace after all is said and done.

During any combat she will need an inner focus and time clock that is boosted by spiritually and peace she learns from the temple. It will allow her to kick *ss and take names all that better. She would still avenge them and "hate" the crimials who took away her family but when she needs to find peace...she can, because of the Temple training. Otherwise I reckon the passion will eat her up and become uncontrolled and she will end up torturing herself.

Her vengence needs to be clear, something she can tap into when she needs to, but also to "let go" in situations when it is inappropriate (eg State dinners...and you know they will take advantage).

All my 2 cents, take what you want and discard the rest. :)

  5. Re: Another topic to discuss: The First NGD thread

All right this seems as good a thread as any for this post, and it supports Super Squirrel's intent...so...

I just saw that apparently the Joey character from Friends will get a spin-off show. I think he's a fine enough actor. I admit, I don't think Friends is that great. But a spin-off show of this character? Come on...not a character to base a show on. Unless they really rework it, such as the "Lou Grant" show.

    Whattya think?

Well my favourite character on the show is Chandilier...Bing! (get it?) because of his banter and attempted humour. Joey was invited to Australia's tv awards one year and didn't give off a favourable impression. People started nicknaming him "Matt le Blank" in imatation of of clueless Joey.

As Madstone suggested for the spinoff to work they need to change track from 20/30-something's hanging out. His suggestion of focusing on his acting career is a good one. Rumour has it that Elle "The Body" McPherson will make another appearance.

The first post to this whole HG boards was by...

At long last, here they are! WOOHOO!

Throughout the first part of this week, you guys will probably notice some inconsistencies in the stability of the site. This is to reflect the stability of my mind. As the week goes on, the site, and my sanity, will become much more stable. Currently, the board, Digital Hero and the online store are being run off of the new server and over the next couple days the rest of the stie will be transfered and our DNS entry finally updated to reflect the change.

Thanks for your patience duringthis entire process.

    Ben

The rest of the thread is here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6 Yes folks the thread # is 6. So where are the first 5 threads go?
  7. Another topic to discuss: The First NGD thread

Yay, I found the first thread on this NGD, I was was considering bumping it but decided against it. If anyone was to search for it again and I bumped it it would make it quite difficult to find it again. At least we know that it is near the beginning of the NGD and that it, where I believe it should stay -- guarded by the depths of time and threads past. And thus the name of the thread reamins a mystery.

But what can I tell you about this thread that launched this forum -- The Non-Gaming Discussion forum/board? The first post by JmOz was:

Through the strength of my prose I have cause a longstanding and beneficial change to the Hero Games community' date=' Life is good.[/quote']

And the people who posted to that thread are: Monolith, Hermit, misterdeath, Starlord, Super Squirrel, cubist, Ben Seeman, JmOz, Supreme, Shadowpup, Edsel, Mike Basinger, RDU Neil, Fazhoul, Agent X, aylwin13, Chaosliege, Alibear, Thirdbase, Evil Steve.

Strange fact but true: The NGD was not created when the other forums were -- it was created on request. Something to remember? ;)

  8. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I think my maturity level is higher than you anticipated. :)

To be honest, the fact that this is a HERO board is totally irrelevant to me. I'm not into comics. I'm not that into roleplaying games as a rule. I don't care about the genres or rules, especially since there isn't a forum for westerns.

If I didn't like the people here on the NGD, I wouldn't be posting at all. :)

I didn't want to derail the Reputation thread where I got this from (and hope Rach & Kara sees this)...

...but I now know what to get Rachel for Christmas -- wrap up a bloke named FREd

which led to this (see next post)...

  9. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

That was' date=' uh, most effective. Perhaps a little erotic for here (seriously), or it perhaps had more effect on me than others.[/quote'] I thought it was quite tame, all naughty bits were covered after all. I'm more worried that the one in black as no hand, it just dissappeard when she(or he) straighted the arm.
  10. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Exactly. Though I would stress that the punishment would not involve floggings. No, instead violators shall be made to referee a debate between Seenar and Worldmaker.

    Yeah, I'm mean and nasty.

That is indeed crueller than herding cats.
Or worse, getting between Mightybec and sheep during mating season. :angst::D
  11. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

No' date=' just click on the post count number to the right on the listing of threads and it tells you everyone who posted and how many posts each. Not to take away from Bazza's effort in advising us, that was cool.[/quote'] Thanks. Although the problem was that when copying and pasting the info into a text document the numbers where on a seperate line rather on the same line as the handle. So effort was required (but not much) to correct it.

I reckon it should be done, every 25 or 50 default pages (15 posts per page) just so to track progress.

  12. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Currently our WGAC Index is around .63 which is a significant improvement. I think we turned a corner.

By comparison the "random about random" thread stands at .78, which would be a nice goal to reach; "Burning Times" is on fire with nearly a full point; and of course "catsuit" is king of the jungle at more than 2 points.

    -AA

so basically more pictures needed. thanks for the update.

  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I think we should factor in the WGAC Index. That stands for "Who Gives A Crap?" It uses the number of views a thread has to modify its number of replies. Based on my entirely unscientific observation' date=' the average thread has roughly ten time the number of views as it does replies. So the WGAC Index is calculated by (views / replies * 10).[/quote']AA, how are we doing now?
