  1. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

My son got me some movie money for my birthday, so I spent it today.

I got to see RED....pretty good action movie and had a super cast.

Devil, better than I expected. A closed room horror movie. Lots of atmosphere, and kept my interest. Not perfect, but enjoyable.

Easy A. I love me some Emma Stone. A modern twist on the Scarlet Letter, Emma fakes having sex with guys and complications set in. Very funny.

  2. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Better reviews later, but here is the short list

Salt - Decent Action/espionage movie with Angelina Jolie. Nice action sequences, decent plot, good acting. Worth a afternoon viewing.

She's out of your league. - Not bad comedy about a nerd of a guy hooking up with a really pretty, smart together girl. Its worth a netflix rental. I liked the actors mostly and the story didnt insult me. Its a light weight comedy, not intended to be a serious movie.

The Gates Tv series. Its a cross between True Blood and desperate housewife's. Its not perfect, but fun light summer watching. A good GM could steal a lot of ideas for a Horror campaign.

Goblin - a By the numbers Sci fi Sat night movie. Not bad as a throw away monster movie. I think it was a slight notch above the usual SYFY Sat night movie.

Brooklyn's Finest...Outstanding Cop drama. three different stories intertwine as the movie goes along. An undercover cop that needs to get out while he can, A burn out street office that only has a few days to go until he retires, and a Swat member that is drowning in debt needs to make a move, any move to save his family home. These stories intertwine to great effect. The acting, the look of the movie all are fantastic. The neighborhoods become another character as the movie goes along. Brooklyn's finest is worth the rental. THere is lots of cursing, violence and very flawed characters. But the flaws makes them human and at the end you care even about the criminals involved.

I bought the shorts that were Rifftraxed at the recent live event. well, the ones that are available.

I liked Julie and Julia a lot.

The Goods was funny in a kinda stupid kinda way. Its a turn your brain off kinda comedy. But it has some great moments

I got a bootleg copy of Mike Nesmiths Elephant parts. Its pushing 30 years and its still pretty good.

  4. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Mayhem of the Music Meister! the Batman Brave and the Bold episode.

Awesome.!!!! Music Meister played by Neal Patrick Harris hypnotieses everyone into being a part of his criminal Musical master piece that included dancing supervillians, a musical Deathtrap and just fun in general....

Haunted Hollywood, pretty average documentary on History Channel on haunted places in Holly wood.

  5. Re: Hero Podcast: What Would You Like To Hear?

Some heads up on the pocasting front on my end.

I did find a great mic ,a Blue Microphones Snowball and I got my self a Behringer XENYX 502 Mixer. I got the mixer so I could do interviews and at some point record a live game. I know that not every one wants that, but enough folks seem to want to know how others play and its a popular thing to do right now.

The down side for right now, the mixer does not have Phantom power for the mic, so I either have to find a phantom power supply or get the 802 Behringer mixer. I am thinking of the later, but its 50ish dollars I dont have right now.

I have a back up mic thats not bad, but I wanted something with a better range. Ehh, sometimes ya just gotta work with what you got.

I am hoping I can sell the 502 mixer and recover at least some of my money back, which so far is not much. The mic was a gift and mixer I got pretty cheap.

I got Podcasting Station at a going out of business sale, and I like it so far as an editing tool and general recorder.

The actual computer I am using is a kuldge of old systems donated from my gaming group, but I dont need a top of the line computer. It does the job. I did get a decent sound card and I am not using the onboard sound so I can get at least some signal separation and I am not getting a lot of hum. Its there, but barely noticeable.

As for the actual podcast, I chucked the old and am starting over. I hated to throw away about two weeks of work, but I just didnt like it and frankly I am thinking this is a audition tape so to speak. What I mean is, if this podcast goes off well, I can do more podcast and get some interviews with Hero Games staff and other folks of interest.

The new podcast is a review of the 6th vol one and two and some worldbuilding ideas.

I hope to have it up by the weekend, but Its a busy week here.

    Wish me luck:thumbup::)

    ShowTimes Brotherhood.

Set in Providence RI, the story is about two irish brothers. One a rising state senator, the other a criminal trying to move up.

Both of thier worlds connect at times. Badly.

Both brothers are shown as flawed men. Micheal, the gangster brother has moments of chairty and kindness, but they are overshadowed by violent acts of murder and cruelty.

Tommy is a decent man, but has to make hard and difficult choises to protect his irish family and people of his district. His wife is cheating on him and has a drug problem.

Brotherhood avoids the soap opera aspect and does keep it real

The show is violent, gritty and ugly at times. Thats what makes it work

Worth watching and putting in your netflix folder.

  7. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

    Newest episode of Royal Pain

I also caught the first Harry Potter movie with my wife.

And finished the first season of True Blood.

True blood is ok, I really like some of the supporting characters, but frankly Sookie is sorta silly, and Bill is menacing vampire as Don Knotts would be.

  8. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...

I recently purchased the Savage Sword of Conan collection of Marvel comics material from the 70s. Fun comics.

I just finished Simon Greens first Omnibus of Nightside books. Urban fantasy of a dectective that has a gift of finding lost items. The setting is a dark part of London that is between the spaces so to speak.

Fun stuff. Nothing award winning but sure gave some ideas to inflict on my gaming group.

  9. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Bride Wars....pretty much all the funny stuff is in the trailer. Anne Hathaway in a stripper pole is kinda funny ...but over all, not a very good movie.

Burn Notice 2nd season. Great season and a lot of plot lines get resolved. If ya got Netfiix its worth getting in.

IT Crowd. Very funny Brit Sitcom. A woman with no computer experence is slated to run a large corperations IT dept. Insanity ensues...

  10. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

A 1970's TV movie adaptation of Judge Dee and the Monastery Murders.

Judge Dee was a real person who lived in the 7th century A.D. in China. He is cited as "the first recorded detective", and his fictionalized alter-ego is the protagonist of a popular series of historical mystery novels by Robert van Gulick. In The Monastery Murders, Dee has to spend the night at a Taoist monastery (a trail for him, as he is a strict Confucian) and discovers that the place is full of conspiracies, cross purposes, and ultimately homicide.

I don't know whether the movie was meant to be a pilot for a TV series or for a series of movies. As far as I know only one was made. The actor who played Judge Dee is better known for his role as Wo Fat, Steve McGarret's nemesis, on Hawaii Five-O. He was clearly enjoying himself.

A very rare movie, difficult to find.

I have been looking for that for years....where did you find it??

  11. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Watched the DVD of Body of Lies Last night.

Pretty good espionage movie. Body of lies was directed by Ridley Scott and starred Russell Crowe .

Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a covert CIA operative working in Jordan searching for terrorists who have been bombing civilian targets. Ferris uncovers information on the Islamist mastermind Al-Saleem (Alon Aboutboul). He devises a plan to infiltrate Al-Saleem's terrorist network with the help of his boss back in Langley, Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe). Ferris enlists the help of the Chief of Jordanian Intelligence, Hani Salaam (Mark Strong) on this operation, but he doesn't know how far he can trust him without putting his life in danger. The uneasy alliance leads to a cultural and moral clash between the men.

I did not write the above synopsis.

But its a pretty good one.

I liked the detail to how Jordan's politics work, the difference between the Ground agent and the control boss back in the US and the presentation that Arabic culture is one of many faces, some good, some bad.

ITs not the best movie I have ever watched, and its kinda slow for an action movie, but lots of blood for a drama.

    Worth a net flix rental.
