  1. My favorite book is the old ARMORY book that came out about 15-20 years ago. Great for its time, but of course out of date now.

The old TOP secret rules and a good write up of weapons write ups, and are tranlateable into Hero stats.

Still, The R. Talsorian Games The Compendium of Modern Firearms , is the best one I know of.

  2. I am sure this has been discussed on this board before, but I am searching for a Hero Machinic to simulate the Call of Cthulthu Sanity Loss.

    Any suggestions.??

I do have the Horror Hero book, but I am not entirely happy with its system. But I could use it if I had to, Its not that bad.

I was just trying to make sure that when My very normal PCs see something really scary (a deep one, a ritual Sacrifice, a bloody headless body I had some way of making sure the PCs just didnt go Hmmm nice and move on. Thank you

  3. Dang it, I ment to put in Where Eagles Dare...

BTW Both Navarone and Eagles have been released on DVD with much Grande extras and I recommend both.

There is also the d20 Weird War 2 books out by the same guys that do DeadLands. I have the main rule book and the background is very playable. Would take some work to convert it to Hero, but I think would be worth the time

The reason I was asking if Steve Wanted to do a WWII book was the fact that there are so many already on the shevles. As much as I think WWII Hero would be great, I am not sure it could make a dent sales wise.

A superHero WWII background might go well, however.

I would like to say I would buy it, but I am having trouble keeping up as it is....I dont even have Fantasy Hero yet.

  4. This opens up a question of should DOJ do a WWII sourcebook.

I kinda wish they would, because I am lazy and dont wanna do all the work of converting and making up the character templates and vechiles.

But with SJG WWII series of books and given that GURPS is "fairly " easy to convert. I am betting Steve is saying no.

    Just a comment.

    Moving on,

NOt only Kellys Hero's Hero, but

    Guns of Navrone Hero

    Force Hero from Navrone

Battle of the Hero Bulge (bot I think a lot of us are fighting that one)

    Dirty Dozen Hero

the list goes on but I won't

  5. I have to say, except for Horror Hero this is the product I have been waiting for.

I hope to get my copy this weekend. I am even dipping into my DRAGONcon funds to get this one.

Please when some of the posters get a copy, please give us a discription and review...

    Thanks

    Go HERO!!!

  6. As I understand. quite a lot of the filming script was cut to fit a 2 hour running time. As I understand nearly an hour is left on the cutting room floor and will be in the DVD.

I understand several plot points are expanded and explanded.

I liked the movie and enjoyed it quite well. The fight scenes were exciting to me. I just dont get the really negative reviews of the movie.

    just my 2 cents

    THAG

  7. A&E recent Ivanhoe is worth setting thru also. A bit more correctly done costume wise and with casting.

1BigRich, excellent movie list. I was trying to remember some of the 80s low budget fantasy movie and I could not remember the name of that movie. Thanks

Also when you mentioned the 52 version Ivanhoe, that reminded me that Robert Taylor also did Knight of the Round Table, a delightful retelling of the Camolot myth. Just released on DVD and worth seeing a Technicolor movie.

Joen00b, I have to major disagree with you on the recent Monte Cristo movie. I found it very well done. I have a soft spot for the late seventies version with Richard Chamberland, but hey....

To be fair to Cosner, Prince of thevies is a fair movie and its been admitted the sound guys messed up reels in the final cut of the movie....I think the dvd fixes some of those mixups...

the above is just my opinion. Please no flame wars

Who is looking forward to League of Extordinary gentlemen

  8. Wow, nice list of films, but here are a few more obscure films to round out the watch list

Captian Kronos, Vampire Hunter, At one time this film was hard to find but now just released to DVD. While mostly a horror film, it could be considered a dark fantasy with vampires. Cool sword scenes and Hammer chick galore.

Seven Samari, Yojimbo, Ran, all movies by Korasawa.

Fantasic sword play, great stories and just fun to watch.

    Japaneese movies at thier finest.

BBCs Nevewhere is being released very soon. Neverwhere is a modern Dark Fantasy about a magic underworld excisting under modern London. Its a six part TV series. low budget, but it has the basis of a great game

I wish there were copies around of the old 60 sword and sandle Italian movies. When I was growing up there were a staple of Saterday afternoon movies....

Speaking of which Steve Reeves Hercules is out on DVD and worth watching....its silly and dated, but some of the scenes still work.

Disneys prince and the pauper is a great one if you can find it, but it looks like most of the Vault disney is not going to be avaible for a while, although there is word of a third disney channel just for the old stuff

I liked Mists of Avalon the TNT movie of recent showing.

SCi FI is running Roar right now....its not bad.....

look for Richard Lesters Flashman movie on Turner classic or amc. Based on George Mcdonalds Flashman book series, its about a upper class bastard bedding and drinking his way across late 19 century europe. Not quite fantasy, but close enough. Great fight scenes and sight gags

The Sharpe Series. Its a Strech to Add them to a Fantasy list, but heroic action abouds in this series and is worth a look. I made a great Deadlands series of adventures of these and I am betting many GMs would get great ideas watching this series of 14!!!! movies

  9. Thanks for the great sites.

VERY well done and an giant help to me as I am running a SCI fi Hero game this weekend.

As its stands now, its a VERY alternate Babyon 5 universe, but every bit helps

    Thank you VERY much

  10. My sons Favorite game is my "Sliders" game where I got a bunch of TV shows and movies and mixed them up .

My sliders Move to different Earths using Star gates. Yep those Stargates from SG1.

Right now the Roster for SG -13 is

Riddick - Vin Desels Character from Pitch Black. My son plays him very well. For those that dont know...He can see in the dark and is ruthless and cunning.

Scorpius - Yep, our Favorite Man in Black from Farscape.

Jack Morgan - An Indy Jones clone.

Tezz Kawasuki - Famed hacker and ninja.

Jackie Chong - Comic relief Fighter and nearly unkillable, but goes to the hospital a lot.

Burst, Cyborg Dwarf from ShadowRun Seattle. Meanest being in the multi worlds.

Fasial - Mystic from New Cairo. Magic really works there.

Best moment, When Burst needed repairs on his Cybernetics, the only one qualified was Scorpius. Lets just say that Scorpy added some Extra Value componnets for a rainy day.

    This was one crazy game.

They visited Dead world, where the living dead had taken over.

Gang World, where goverments were shut down and crime lords ruled the land.

New Cario, where they battled Mummys, Desert Bandits, and Chinese Paper magic Demons. And met Clark Savage JR.

Whats next .... Barsoom!!! for the Second war of the worlds

  11. Just making HUGE guess here, but it seems that SJG has released a lot of WW2 material in the last couple of years( I am sure jumping on the SAving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers bandwagon) enough to I think flood the market for role playing material, given Gurps ease of translation to other games.

Dont get me wrong, I would like to see a WWII Hero supplement for ease of running my games, but I dont think it would be a big seller printed book wise.

PDF or as a Major Digital Hero issue, could be a winner.

    Just my two cents worth....

  12. Harry Harrisons Deathworld books are good.

Going to the Classics you can't help to think of Asimov's Foundation books. Great series. Considering the books were written over 40 years ago, they still hold up quite well.

David Webbers Honor Harriington books are almost requited reading now. Fantasic competing empires, great space battles and very beliveable characters make engrosing reading.

    worth picking up

  13. Well what did Herodom think of SCI FI new show.

For the most part I liked it. I think Tremors the series has potential for a fun hour long time waster...it may not be Babylon 5, but it could be fun to watch each week.

So, does anyone have Character sheets done for Burt Gummer and the GRaboids yet???

I plan on working Tremors in on my Sliders game. it could be a great crossover....

  14. I jus try to visulize what the character looks like and go from there.

I usually do the characterists first then skills and powers.

I do use HD now to speed things up.

Great thread folks, I just don't have a lot to add as Lisa and other have VERY well answered the questions.
