Why do you think I was shooting at them?

NT: Frank Miller has an uncommonly happy day. What kind of a story does he write? One full of fluffy bunny-wunnies and warm pink clouds.

Re: Another Possible HPA In The Works: Born To Be Wild
As a variant of something mentioned by Lord L. --- someone who willingly "goes native". I.e., someone who takes up some of the local native peoples' behaviors/mores/habits. T.E. Lawrence is the textbook example, though he actually didn't take up that many habits, and gladly laid them aside. I'm thinking more someone who has pretty much or completely gone to "native" mores.
Anything thing: "realistic" Swinging. Seriously, is there always a vine at hand, and can it always hold the (N)PC's weight? Of course, dramatic sense outweighs nitpickery, but it would be nice to have a discussion of what will pass the verisimilitude "test".

APOD has had a couple of great pix the last two days
For Solar HERO: what would it look like if your intrepid PCs get on the "dark side" of Saturn (i.e., are situated so that Saturn eclipses the sun)? Saturn's dark side.
While this picture was taken on Earth, it looks extraterrestrial. Perhaps the PCs visit a planet where this is common? Light pillars
Have fun with these.

Dr. Infamous wishes it to be known that it was not, after all, the delivery of his (overdue) supersonic telepathic mechanical penguins with laser eyes.
Thank you, that is all.
Dr. Infamous is a product of Basil's Twisted Imagination, Unincorporated. Also, Dr. Infamous is too bloody full of himself.

Re: Space drives.
The equation Marcus supplied is for a Brachistochrone trajectory. This is where the ship accelerates constantly until it reaches the midpoint, then it decelerates constantly until it arrives at rest with respect to the destination.
Actually, it isn't. It's the equation for a constant-acceleration "fly-by"--- t=sqrt(2d/a)
for a Brachistochrone trip, it's t=2*sqrt(d/a)
{In the above, "sqrt(x)" means the square-root of x, and "d" is distance.}
BTW, for a trip involving acceleration, coasting, and deceleration:
D is the total distance,
t' is the time spent accelerating (= the time spent decelerating)
a is acceleration.
Total time=(2D/at')+(t'/2)
One thing to remember about all these formulae: They are meant for situations where acceleration is constant and in a straight line, and the ship is not effected by any force other than it's own acceleration. When you throw in varying acceleration and gravity effects...well, it become rocket science.

Re: Mystery Roar from Faraway Space Detected
What I find most interesting is it was measured using a high-altitude balloon. Heck, I didn't know they still did measurements/experiments with those! Very cool, IMO.
Dr. Infamous thinks it's an imminent attack by the Enig-Maw, but no need to worry--his supersonic telepathic mechanical penguins with laser eyes can take care of it. If the world's leaders will proclaim him Overlord of Earth
Dr. Infamous, the Enig-Maw, and the s.t.m.penguins w/l.e. are all products of Basil Twisted Imagination, Unincorporated. All rights left.
