  1. Re: HUDSON CITY: What Do *You* Want To See? I'd like to see a small section which discusses how to use Hudson City as part of the main Champions Universe. Information on how to use it in a 350 point game rather than just a standard Dark Champions game. My current character, Midknight, is a 485 point Champions character who works out of Gotham City, which is not treated as a Dark Champions city in our campaign but just a dark city. I could see many gamers who might be interested in playing in such a dark city rather than the shining Millennium City using standard Champions characters. A page or more on how to do that in the GM's section could be invaluable to many of us who have no real interest in Dark Champions.

  6. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron I think you guys only want to grasp and use the combat principals of comic books. You're looking to defeat the foe in a slugfest. Using one team or person to distract a major foe while others finish the master plot is a comic book stable that is used many times. Can we say Captain America staring down Thanos knowing he's going to die from the deathblow but giving the Silver Surfer the chance to grab the infinity gauntlet? Yes, they don't always work, but most of the time they do. It depends on how many issues are left in the mini-series.

  8. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron I would imagine superhero books sell at least as well as adventures, and probably slightly better as more than 1 in 6 players would have reason to purchase it. You also have the option of using the published heroes as villains in your game and just changing the names and making slight tweaks to their motivations.

  10. Since I've mentioned our team a few times I thought I'd give a brief description of who they are and what they are about. Our campaign is set in the Amalgam Universe which is a blending of Marvel and DC in unusual ways. There was no Justice League or Avengers in our world. What was formed was a team called the Justice Avengers, originally consisting of Aquaman, Hulk, Flash, Giant-Man, Superman, and Ironman. Over time most of the other heroes you would expect to see in either the JLA or Avengers have joined the JA. Most of the events which have happened in both of the comic book universes over the years have also happen in our Amalgam Universe. We has a Secret Crisis which is what brought about the merging of the two worlds, though only a very few know of this. But for the most part comic book history has been stable with only few tweaks. As an example, it's interesting to see DC mutants in the X-men. Our group is Legacy, a team of young superheroes, ranging in age from 18 to 25) who were accidentally transported 30 years into the past, to the time period of their parents before they were born. This has caused some hardships for them as they attempt to not screw up the timeline or alter history in any major way, while yet trying to continue their parent's legacy of heroism and the safeguard of humanity. Some of the most interesting encounters for the team have been where they have met their parents and have seen first-hand how fragile the relationships of their family members have been before they were born. The team has been forced to find ways to not alter the timeline, but still make sure their parents did stay together so they could produce children one day. Legacy consists of: Crimson Pulse: (475 points) is the son of Superman and Lois Lane. Crimson Pulse possesses Superman's heat vision, sight, and flight powers with some minor invulnerability. His sister Amazon possesses Superman's strength and invulnerability but none of his other abilities. Mach: (540 points) is the son of Flash (Barry Allen) and Iris. Mach possesses speedforce abilities similar to the Flash's but tends to use more sonic boom abilities as attacks (explosions, flashes, etc). Mapleleaf: (460 points) is the son of Guardian and Heather Hudson. Mapleleaf wears a battlesuit similar to Guardian's but with more varieties of attacks. Midknight: (485 points) is the son of Batman and Wonder Woman. Midknight possesses low-level superhuman strength with genius intellect and advanced warfare training. Like Batman Midknight uses the fear mystique and gadgetry. Titanium Mist: (450 points) is the daughter of Colossus and Shadowcat. Mist possesses the ability to turn into solid metal or into metal flecks which she can then use to pass through non-solid objects or project at targets. Quiver: (510 points) is the son of Hawkeye and Mockingbird. Quiver uses hi-tech arrows and has sophisticated fighting techniques. Quiver also has the mutant ability to fly and has unerring accuracy.
  11. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron My personal feeling is that there should be one high-tier team, 700 point range, (the Justice Squadron as they're the oldest team), two or three second-tier teams, 450-550 point range, (Sentinels, UNITY, and one of the west coast teams, either the Freedom Patrol or Bay Guardians), with most of the rest as third-tier teams, 350-450 point range (Peacekeepers, California Patrol, etc.), and one or two fourth-tier teams, 250-350 point range, to show starting or low-powered heroes. I think 500 point range characters can "take on" Dr. Destroyer without dying. They have zero chance of beating him, but they can keep him occupied with the proper combination of powers and tactics to keep from being killed outright. Our Legacy team (6 members in the 450-550 point range) managed to hold our own against the Justice Avengers (Aquaman, Captain America, Flash, Thor, Wasp, and Wonder Woman) for a short period of time until Dr. Fate could be found to free them from Loki's control. We had zero chance of defeating them, but we kept them occupied and kept from being killed, and sometimes that's all a hero can do.

  13. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron I certainly see your point but Gravitar and Menton are designed to be fought by a team of Victorys not by a single one. Gravitar and Menton, and even Viperia, are better designed master villains then Dr. Destroyer or Takofanes. Against villains like Gravitar a team like the Sentinels or the Justice Squadron stand a chance of success. Against Destroyer and Takofanes 3 or 4 teams would not stand a chance, and I believe that's because of poor design. I haven't seen the write ups for Tyrannon or Skarn yet but cosmic entities like them, Dr. Destroyer, and Takofanes don't appear to be fightable in a one-on-one fashion. It seems they're designed to be world-shakers and should only be used in gigantic cross-over storylines with multiple teams. Our team, Legacy, has members in the 450-550 point range, which would seem to be around the same level as the Sentinels. We have fought Graviton and Ultron as well as Amazo and many members of Darkseid's troupe like the Female Furies. We even survived a battle against the mind controlled Justice Avengers. Those fights have been difficult but we did succeed. Ultimately I just think that using Dr. Destroyer and Takofanes as benchmarks for master villains is incorrect. Those two, and Tyrannon and Skarn, are mega-master villains and do not fit on the scale, IMHO.

  16. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron Unfortunately the example master villains you chose to use here happen to be the two that are described as routinely and easily killing heroes. You, yourself pointed out to me that Dr. Destroyer was responsible for the death of "almost 50 heroes" in the battle of Detroit. In that regard I don't think your example is well chosen. Those two master villains are several cuts above the others and are not designed to fight individual heroes or even single teams.
  17. Re: Iconic Characters: the Justice Squadron My favorite Marvel RPG and DC Heroes books were the roster books. I'd love to see a Heroes of the Champions Universe book. Volume 1 could cover New York with the Justice Squadron, Sentinels, Nova, and whichever independent heroes are within the area. Volume 2 could cover California with the Bay Guardians, the California Patrol, the Freedom Patrol, and again whichever independent heroes might be necessary.
  18. Re: Iconic Champions ( 4e ) If we assume the 4E Champions are all in the 500-600 point range there'd be no real reason for them to miss the Battle of Detroit. I think only a few heroes died that day not dozens. Defender: would have evolved closer to Ironman and would have multiple suits for different missions. Defender would continue to work with the Champions but I think he would join UNTIL and become part of UNITY. Jaguar: would become Hero-King of the Jaguarungi people of South America. This hidden tribe of lycantropes have access to a vast array of herbal medications which Jaguar would use to cure various diseases around the world. He would continue to work with the Champions in a reserve capacity. Quantum: would become the leader of the Champions after Defender joins UNITY. Quantum would marry the ex-villain Black Mamba after he has been cured to the point of being able to control his ability to turn into the serpentine form. Black Mamba will join the Champions. They have two children ages 5 and 3. Obsidian: will return home after his father, the King, is assassinated. The Champions will uncover and defeat the imperial menace but Obsidian will be forced to assume rulership, and thus abandon the team. Obsidian, seeing the virtues of his time on Earth will send his younger sister, Opaque back to Earth with the Champions to learn and mature as he did. Seeker: will evolve into the premier fighting man on the planet after the WotD. Seeker will stay with the Champions but will frequently be off doing solo missions, and will be considered a reservist nearly as much as an active member. Seeker will marry Wendy Brooks, but the two of them will divorce shortly thereafter as Seeker's tendency to leap into things will take an emotional toll on Wendy. Seeker will be seen in the company of many high profile women after that, including Lady Blue. Solitaire: will become the Sorceress Supreme but will stay with the Champions. She will take on an apprentice named Ms. Arcane who will also join the Champions. Ms. Arcane's is not a true sorceress but instead a mutant who can bend the laws of nature to her bidding. Solitaire will marry Vincent Dimitrios who was archmage before her, but was drained of his arcane energy in some, as yet, unknown way. The Champions 2004 team would consist of: Quantum (leader) Black Mamba Opaque Seeker (semi-active) Solitaire Ms. Arcane Jaguar (reservist) Defender (reservist)
  19. Re: Tell me about you're JLA My current game is a amalgam of Marvel and DC comics. We have the Justice Avengers which consists of Thor, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Flash, Wasp, and Aquaman. Most of the other familiar names have been members at one time or another.
  20. Re: Tell me about your GLC My current game is a amalgam of Marvel and DC comics. We are using the DC Green Lantern Corp with the Space Knights in the Manhunter roles. The rings are built as an AI with all powers usable by others (+1/2) and containing an Ego Link (-1/4) Limitation representing that no power can have more active points than 4x the wielder's Ego. The Ring's powers consist of: Energy Blast Telekinesis Force Field Force Wall Flight FTL Life Support, ubo x8 Images HRRH Mind Link with GLC VPP Equal to Ego x2 to cover all the small powers a GL uses such as Enhanced Senses.
