  1. Re: 6E What happened to HKA?

It's funny that many people see this an immediately think "A 6d6 dart / penknife? Ridiculous", because personally, I'm the reverse. I always thought that the "doubling only" rule was the ridiculous one, because I used a different example ... brass knuckles. Say you've got your tough brick. He can punch down a stone wall or splatter most people with a single strike. Now he puts on a pair of spiky gauntlets. Suddenly, his strikes can barely break a wooden plank, and any superhuman foe just laughs them off.

For some weapons, limiting the amount of strength makes sense. For others, it does not. In most cases, people are going to define their HKAs in a way that makes sense and isn't stupid. When they don't, that's what GM discretion is for.

I agree with you very much on this point.

  2. Re: What Do I Throw At Them?

There is always the mirror-mirror option (fighting evil versions of themselves).

Oooo, I'd second that. One of the best sessions I ever ran was in a fantasy game where the character's were faced by a family of demons who were loosely based on the PCs. It wasn't mirror images, but more like one demon per character with similar genres of powers and the head demon has tremendous illusion powers so far a long time the characters thought they were just visiting an ordinary family. Each of the demons would try to get their counterpart alone for long enough to do demony things to them using the surprise to their advantage.

  3. Re: inflict berserk power

Transform is the power to add complications on others in the long term... Change Environment is discussed in the APG as 'short term Transform'' date=' and specifically goes into adding complications via Change Environment[/quote']

True, but everything in the APG is deep in optional, only-with-GM's-permission territory.

Also, Mind Control is an instant power, but it's effects can last for a relatively long time.

  4. Re: inflict berserk power

As a GM I would allow neither construction. The first is essential attempting to use a Side Effect limitation to attack others, which goes against the first rule of power limitations. As for the second build, Transform is the power to use to inflict Complications on others.

Personally, I'd use Mind Control to force someone to attack the nearest target.

  5. Re: super confused about AVAD's and NND

NND is an extra modifier that you apply to AVAD once you've calculated its value. The NND modifier doesn't cause any movement up or down the table, it alters the final result of the movement.

So for your example, you start in the Very Common category. (Killing attacks do start here because normal defenses apply against the Stun damage) then go down 3 levels to Rare because any form of defense based on the Life Support will be in the Rare category. Which is makes +1 1/2, and that is what you apply the NND modifier to to get a value of +1.

Also, keep in mind that when you take AVAD the power will only do STUN damage unless you take the Does Body advantage for +1.

  6. Re: Multiple Attack and DCV bonuses

    1. If you are buying the DCV characteristic as a power then that would be 15 Active Points.

    2. Halving of OCV or DCV is always the last thing you do.

No, you can't really get around halving your DCV for multiple attacks.

Also, taking Instant means you can't also take non-persistent. Instant powers are non-persistent by definition. However, you totally don't want to take Instant on DCV because it will last for, at most, the one segment in which you make an attack, and then go away. In other words it would be practically useless.

What's the effect you are trying for? Is your goal to do more damage to one person, or to hit more then one target? There might be a clearly way to accomplish it then trying to circumvent multiple attacks.

  7. Re: The Sun Rises

The principle to apply here is reasoning from effect. Making the Dawn Come is the special effect of a power that affects the game somehow, like a spell to create light.

You mentioned that the power would be rarely useful, which says to me that it won't really have any effect on the game, which means that, really, it shouldn't cost anything at all. If it's appropriate to the campaign I'd let the character do it for free. Or maybe charge 1 point.

  8. Re: Why would I want an Accurate AoE?

Use Accurate AoE for attacks that are easy to hit with. DnD Magic Missiles or Heat seeking rockets, for example. As the attacker you only have to hit DCV 3, rather then the target's DCV.

A real AoE of 2m would also destroy whatever objects were on or around the character, which wouldn't be appropriate for magic missile.

Also, you can already Dive for Cover to avoid ANY attack, not just AoE.

  9. Re: I am Spartacus

For the record, I skipped the first episode and enjoyed the rest of season one.

Some of the CGI of things passing through bodies was spectacularly bad, but those moments were rare.

The program is actually quite watchable, just skip episode 1. :)

  10. Re: Things that trigger Complications / Limitations

Well, the point of Susceptibility is that you take damage from some seemingly ordinary thing (The sort of thing characters don't pay points for). Kryptonite is just another element. A rare element, but still ordinary. Holy Water is really just water. The GM would establish what conditions make it "holy." So, those don't really cost points. Though you could potentially buy a blessing spell that would Transform Water into Holy Water.

Things that affect Susceptibility shouldn't cost Character Points.

Now, Vulnerability, that's something different. In that case it depends on the special effects of the powers that you get attacked with.

If a vampire is vulnerable to "holy" attacks, then if someone bought an attack power with the special effect of holy, the vampire would take extra damage.

  11. Re: 6th Edition Mega-Scale and Movement

This info is just from memory, but there are serious reasons not to use megascaled teleport. Non-combat teleport means you remain exactly where you are until the very end of phase in which you activate your teleport. Meaning anyone can attack you in the phase you attempt to teleport, and as has been stated any megascaled movement is considered Non-combat.

In addition, I believe, the Teleport description specifically mentions that using megascaled Teleport takes an extra phase.
