And here we see just how worthless the "real weapon" limitation is. I've hit my target with my Real Harpoon; now what? Does it count as a grab at range? Stretching? How does the victim get off the harpoon, does he use STR or make a CON roll or what? If so, how much STR? Does he take more damage getting off the harpoon? Can I inflict more damage by yanking on the line?

  2. The best FH game I ever was in was in the Dark Sun setting, which was close enough to the usual fantasy world to not totally lose the players, but different enough to be a real treat.

Plus it gets around the whole tank problem quite easily. Even if you could find enough steel to make armor, you'd never wear it because the heat would kill you by lunchtime. :)

EDIT: I got bored and checked the d20 system reference document thingy. Here's the current version of Faerie Fire for reference.

Thanks for printing that. My D&D knowlege is (Obviously) years out of date. The newer version is nicer. However, when the first three books were written D&D was still 1st / 2nd Ed. ;)

It shouldn't inflict any DCV penalty on the target. I'd say Images would cover it, the only question being whether you'd have to do anything to target somene with Images.

Since the books are based on D&D and the spell Faerie Fire is a D&D spell, I was pointing out what the spell does. In D&D Faerie Fire give you a +2 to hit a lit up target. Since every attacker gets this bonus it is more like a penalty to DCV.

The effect of Faerie Fire is to make the target easier to hit. I suppose that Change Environment might work, considering that it can impose DCV penalties. The sfx is that you light the guy up.

It's been YEARS since I read the stories of Drizzt and crew so everything is really foggy as far as the sotry is concerned. But for D&D write ups, the bracers increased the number of attacks that the wearer got. I'd bet money on that. I was wrong about it granting SPD. I would make it give the naked advantage of Autofire instead since the whole character doesn't become speedy, just his arms or legs as the case may be. For wearing on the legs, give +Running.

  6. I have nothing against buying cheap models. I'm all for that. I just don't like having a great war game turned into clicky tech. Some stuff just shouldn't be made simpler.

Can you imagine playing Star Fleet Battles or B5 Wars as clicky tech?! It just wouldn't be the same.

"Yes! my 40mm cannons hit the cockpit! yeah!"

"Uh no, you just do 2 clicks of damage."

    :(

    Now that makes sense.

Almost. If he lost his eye then that's supposed to be a disabling head wound, which ought to have killed him without prompt medical attention as well as knocking him out. But I don't think any game system handles handles really bizarre head wounds like this one.

  9. I was thinking the other day that what would be really funny is if you let players buy penalty skill levels to get rid of the encumbrance penalty for armor. Ha ha ha! Of course I'd never allow that in my games.

I got the short version of Excalibur on DVD out of the bargain bin at Towers, and I've been watching it in fits and starts. There's dozens of guys in plate in that movie, and hardly anyone dodges or even runs. Of course, it's a really cheesy movie, so I hate to use it as an example of realistic knight combat, but flavorwise it matches FH just fine. 4th ed., anyway.

  10. You did a pretty good job.

It could be debated and has been whether Dizzt would have Martial Arts or not. The training that he and every other Drow go through is pretty extensive so it could be argued for either CSLs or Martial Arts.

I'm not exactly sure if he really has Ambidexterity. D&D write ups give it to him to justify his using two weapons at the same time, but Hero has Two Weapon fighting to cover the penalties of using off hand for any fighting.

I agree that he should have SPD 4. He started much faster than Wolfgar, and Cattibrie. The Bracers would give him SPD 5 (probably).

Twinkle and Icingdeath are both magic weapons. I would give them bonuses or base damage higher than normal in their own rather than have it come from the CSLs.

Because they wanted to simulate that STR has little to do with how much damage a Lightsaber does. I'd say they were correct in this. Yoda doesn't look strong at all but he can kick butt with a Lightsaber.

  12. Just started playing Shadowbane a few days ago. I'm quite happy with it.

Anyway, the game has Use Light Armor, Use Medium Armor and Use Heavy Armor as skills. Better types of armor require more skill points and the level of protection you get from a particular type of armor increases with skill.

I thought this was interesting and that it could be translated into Hero. Spend a point or two to get the Armor X Skill, then spend more points to get increases in DEF/rDEF Only In X Armor. Maybe limit it to PD and Damage Resistance.

Of course this does increase the tank problem. I just found it kinda neat.

  13. The site looks really pretty.

About the B5 thing. The reason for all the miscalculation on ship sizes is because the CGI were not consistant from season to season. Heck in LoR they had Nials fly backwards. *shrug*

    No way....cool!

Must find out what episode it was. Gotta see that!

Dude, that site looks cool but you gotta take some of what he says with a handful of salt. I mean, yeah ok Whitestars are cool but no way in hell do they have more firepower than an Omega Destroyer.

I've also seen another site that claims that Whitestars carry Nials, but I've never seen it on the show. As far as I can tell, they carry Flyers, not Nials.
