  1. For those who have not seen the movie, he has a gun which is powered by a small reactor which when it hits people anywhere will give them an orgasam. Seems harmless unless you do it about 20 times straight. What power would this be. Things like charges and the like are easy to figure out, Focus and the like, but I am not sure what sort of power to use. Likewise the rest of the character would not be too hard to flesh out, and neither would choder [sp?] boy, the side kick, however, if someone wants to take a kick at coming up with a full set of stats and disads, go for it. No I am not DMing or playing, just wondering. If I were, I would offer my take on most of the character.
  2. Re: Buying up Char in FH Keep in mind that I've done most of my playing with much earlier editions including the standalone. Some of the things I say might not have made it to 5th ed, I've skimmed it but haven't gone page to page in depth yet.
  3. Re: Comics are getting too steamy... Not much you can do with solo plowing, you need a plowman and at least 1 Oxen or Horse, or more depending on the soil [Keeping it clean... or dirty^H^H^H^H^H soiled, depending on your POV]
  4. Re: Buying up Char in FH Who else here thinks that for FH, ego is heavily overpriced. For champs I can see the 2 pointer, but in Hero is almost never seems to come up, less often then Presence. When I do GM, I do try to use it a bit more often, for willpower checks but it sure ain't worth 2 points.
  5. Re: Buying up Char in FH You can use a weapon too "heavy" for you IIRC by taking an OCV hit. I suspect even real life warriors have troubles with a massive greatsword. One could increase sp to 2 and reduce the str mins of course, although I would have to ponder the math before doing such a move. In the stand alone a long time ago when the earth was still cooling it used to cost 1 end per 5 points, now its 1 per 10, for FH, perhaps going back to 5 might not be such a bad idea. On the idea of str. Why bother taking magic for attack purposes. Short of an area attack spell [and one can sweep a hex] it is so much cheaper to buy the attack form with a weapon of some sort, alas in FH you don't buy your weapon attacks like you do with Hero. I don't like the idea of having to buy your attacks in FH, however it seems to be a glaring weakness in the transfer from champs to fantasy. It seems to me, the only thing worth buying magic for in non combative uses like flight and the like. I am not very confortable with dealing with the system weakness by limited char levels, Better to fix the fault. Although even as it stands now, if you got the 80 points there is no reason not to buy up straight 20's for str, con dex and body. Lowering the amount you can buy up just makes it worse, every character will end up looking alike char wise, even more so. There is some advantage to skills in that you have the flexability to transfer from damage to OCV to DCV depending on situation. I remember once I had a half Gaint vs a skill monkey and got myself killed. By the time I realized I should have been sweeping his hex it was too late, so I supose it was my fault.
  6. Its always bothered me when characters in FH buy up their charactersistcs up by more then a couple of points. In Champs its easy to justify anything, but for normal people its hard to impossible to improve any stats beyond your baseline. Generally people might improve what they grew into by 2 or 3 points barring a roidal dedicated weightlifter, but show improvement via skills. Is it one of those things you just ignore, am I alone in this?
  7. Re: Disadvantage I forgot about that aspect wrt Hunted, that over time you will develop hunteds anyways,,, if you are any good Same thing for rep, might as well get the points for it up front, because in many caimpaings you are gonna get it anyways.
  8. Re: Disadvantage But inflicting pain is the result of some of those disads, like say double damage from purple dinosaurs. Looking at the rules from a munshkinish prospective, the thought does occur, why take something that will hurt me, when I can take something that will hurt everyone. If you knock out one character, thats fine, but the DM can't toss a hunted at a group which will take everyone out, he would just have to cut back elsewhere. If anything, perhaps having a hunted could be a 0 pointer, in any scenerio you can only do so much fighting till you go under, having hunteds just gives a DM ideas what to throw at you.
  9. Re: Disadvantage One issue I have in Fantasy Hero at least is that if you can get up to say 50 or 75 points in disads, players will do anything to get the full allotment of disads. What ever happened to characters who are ordinary or with just one or two quirks. From what I've seen it seems to encourage a bit of munchkinism. You need the extra points to keep up with the others, but unless your character concept fits in well with the disads, too often you just toss things in, or change concept.
  10. Re: Disadvantage I never did like hunteds, it always seemed like a way for a character to get the points and the whole team to suffer the pain. I supose in a FH type setting you can arrange ambushes when buddy is comming back from the outhouse and the like, but that leaves the other players sitting around with nothing to do. Having party hunteds however would not have this problem at all. And yes an 11- or 14- is way too high.
  11. Re: You wake up as a 25K point character WWYD Yeah, I am one stunned evil monkey in a closet. My apologies, if I could delete this thread I would.
  12. Re: You wake up as a 25K point character WWYD I had a poll attached but there it is gone? Ah it looks like I created 2 threads. Sigh.
  13. Re: You wake up as a 25K point character WWYD As for a serious answer, its simply a modern version of the old greek question, with the ring of invisibility, except with more options. The ring of gyges or something like that. In times past I would of been inclined to impose my will on the earth for the purposes of making it a better place. But that sounds like bah, effort, even with those powers. So I think if it were to happen to me, I would just live my life quietly. Soak up the various libraries with the edidic memory/speedreading. Once humanity offs itself, go back to 4000 BC and do it all over again. Wouldn't need food, could play back any book/video/song I've encountered. Not effected by temp, could use a force field to keep the rain off. Wouldn't actually have any needs except for something to cover my manhood, and an illusion could do that. I think that would be pretty sweet. Get a little unibomber style shack somewhere in a few different nice locations, a few loyal pets and chill.
  14. Sort of a twist of the old ring of gynes [sp?] question. Tomarrow you wake up, with the following Primary stats 500 straight across Enough PD, ED and resistances to survive at the center of the sun Enough recovery and end so that you can use full strength for all 12 phases and be back up with the phase 12 recovery. All Skills Whatever KS/SS languages that would tickle your fancy All Talents All immunities including aging. All powers either maxed out or at 1000 base cost and varable advantage with say +3 to play around with [no doubt used with 0 end cost] with inherency whereever desired. Only its the same world as today, so although you could obliterate 700 point characters there are nothing but normals, and you know [somehow] that there are none comming. What would you do?
  15. Re: Silly question, How much damage do nukes do If I were going to toss a nuke at player characters, I would prob define damage vs mundane as per real life results. As for supers, I would pick a level for whereever they are in the damage radius and pick a roll/combination of rolls for that distance from ground zero, rather then figure out total damage and drop off rates. Superdude is 1 mile from a ground zero 20 MT attack he takes Xd6 of damage A and Yd6 of damage B.
  16. Re: Comics are getting too steamy... In media in general I don't like it when sex is used when it really isn't needed. Even if two characters are involved, it really dosen't add anything to show them plowing/being plowed. If I want to see plowing, I will watch porn, or farming videos
  17. I guess I have a weird thing for CoC crossovers. Anyone try it. I would figure that having superheros take on the mythos would take care of the high PC bodycount that CoC tends to produce, and as Martha would say, thats a good thing.
  18. Re: Is there any originality left in comics? Not actually into comics, but seeing the success of "Comic Book Store Guy" from the Simpons both with the chicks and career wise, I would think owning a comic book store would be too much for me the handle:help:
  19. If one has a superhero with high strength and he is in the habit of throwing things as a ranged attack would said character have to put points into a ranged physical attack? If not, would he have to if he carried around items to toss. Say a high strength character brings around some 100 pound plates to toss so he dosen't have to go around tossing cars and the like. This came up in a game a long long time ago.
  20. Re: Silly question, How much damage do nukes do I guess one should buy immunity to fission and fusion. As for 300 Mega dice, that would imply would it not the damage going out to 300 million " or 600 million M, or 600 000 KM, or 360 000 miles, which no A or H bomb has ever done. I am going to guess there is an upper limit. As I understand nukes, if you are hugging a bomb the "damage" is the same, its basicly a super heated area in the 100 million degree range that would vaporise you. I don't suspect that would change much regardless of a 20 kt or 20 mt bomb, OTOH the bigger the bomb the bigger the area of effect, although it is more effectient to use more bombs of smaller yield then one of greater yield. The other thing is as someone pointed out, things survive rather close if not exactly at ground 0. This is why I am inclined to think of a lower damage with megascaling to increase the drop off. Perhaps with an area effect of much higher damage at the center. I've seen those what nukes would do things, its not just the left that published them. Used to read up a bit on nuclear war, ah the good old days.
  21. I suppose would could look at the building damage a nuke does, with explosion rules and figure it out, if the rules mesh well with reality, but I was wondering if anyone else has looked at this. At ground zero a nuke weapon will vaperoize just about anything for a short distance, thats gotta hurt at least a bit.
  22. Re: Hero with a bad ticker? THe occational hit of nitro when the chest feels tight from pushing too hard. I would just buy less end and con to simulate being tired quickly. Dependacy on healthy diet or various meds, or death results.
