  1. Re: disad costs It is the cost. A 15 point say, overconfidance can make a huge difference in a heroic character, but the extra 15 points in a 350 point superhero is almost yawnsville by comparison. I don't mind disads, but I find that esp for heroic caimpaigns, the push is one to get the full 75 or whatever limit you can, and if the principle that a disad/limitation should get you the same amount of points as it harms you, the drive shouldn't be there.
  2. Forgive me if this has come up before. I find it a bit bothersome [but easy to fix] that disads cost the same regardless of the starting points of a character. A 25 point bonus means a lot more to a 100 point hero then a 350+ hero. I seem to recall, perhaps wrongly, that inthe old days of stand alone games that the disad costs would vary, being lower in games like FH where character points were expected to be in the 100 to 150 range, then in Champs where the 250+ was the standard. I find at least for the non super type things, there is too much value for disads and as such presure to come up with character concepts that can justify disads. Discuss
  3. Re: Code vs Killing, in your group? Of course such a disad would be very different for a person with normal attacks then someone with say a stun only or non damage attacks. Do stun only/entage and the like characters still get full points even though they can still attack anyone at full strength?
  4. Re: Modeling, er, "sexual prowess" I am reminded of a quote from I believe Lewis from the Drew Carey show "In my expereince usually one person is disapointed during sex, fortunatly for me, it has always been the female"
  5. Re: Modeling, er, "sexual prowess" I used to tease a size queen by calling her "grand canyon" and asking if I could set up a table and a few chairs in her for gaming sessions. Funny thing is, I asked her once what she meant by "large" and the numbers that came out would describe average... which explained why she though she was lucky in that her bf's were all endowed with one exception. YMMV of course. All things being said, I would rather be a Lexington Steel or a Mandingo then a Max Hardcore or a Ed Powers. Then again, if I were a Serentiy, a Lovette, or a Kobe Tai, I would never have to leave the house
  6. Re: Modeling, er, "sexual prowess" I used to allow players to spend 1 point to obtain, ahem, extra size, cough cough. Oddly enough most players ended up being in two camps, either they didn't care for such sillyness, or they did, but they cared more about losing a point for something that dosen't let them kill things faster So rarely did anyone bother with it.
  7. Re: SF worlds, what's possible, what isn't.
  8. Re: Why are robots always immortal? I came to realize this with the use of Gold Cross in the game Car wars. Suppose you transfer your brain to another body, then wake up the other body, but you are still alive. Obviously you are still you, even though the clone will think it is you with equal passion. Why should this change if you are dead. Of course anyone who believes in a soul would have other concerns. Of course as far as too many roleplayers are concerned, the important thing about a person is his stats, equipment and killing potential, so it didn't really matter Funny thing, with the teleportation idea, or with the brain transfer idea is that there would be no way to prove if the new person is really a clone or a continuation of concousness, as the clone will fully believe it is you. One thing I have thought of is this Suppose one starts replaceing small parts of the brain one bit at a time with mechanical parts. Copy over memories and the like each time. If you were to replace 1% of the brain with an exact copy, when you wake up, you would still be you. Then another 1% and so on and so forth. Eventually you would have a whole new brain. The only way I can't see this working is with the assumption that there is a part of the brain which governs the converns mentioned above which if replaced will result in a clone waking up. Again, if this does exsist we would never know as the person waking up would believe in total success of the transfer.
  9. Re: And off we go! Yes? Someone call me? It seems you have found a group on non power gamers. Lucky you.
  10. Re: Champs and players with no comic book background I have no background with superheros except for the superman movies and the later movies comming out. I think I can handle playing no problem, but I would find GMing rather brutal without modules to rely on. Then again I am not the most creative guy on the planet.
  11. Re: Champs and players with no comic book background Just wondering
  12. Anyone here play Champions without a background in reading superhero comics, or watching those old superhero cartoons?
  13. Re: Things I've Learned playing a monstrous hero I took a hobbit barbarian once. Background was that he was captured as an infant and the chief's daughter took pity on him and raised him as one of the lads. As such he physically had pretty much maxed out strength for a hobbit [15 at the time] due to the stressors of keeping up with full sized humans. Fun character actually. I enjoy such anti sterotypes as much as playing sterotypes.
  14. Re: Casual Survey: Age of players and Hero's utility vs. other games I've generally been lucky. Those I've introduced the game to were motivated to learn the full game, either because they saw up front it was better then D&D and they were good players, or because it would allow them to better rape the system and they were bad players. It is getting people to switch that is hard, in the attutude of, it works well enough why fix it. I guess I started around 19 or 20 with the stand alone FH book, I am 36 now, but I spent much much more time not playing hero then hero, due to a lack of GMs.
  15. Re: Ships of the Dark Ages and Medieval Period http://www.bonavista.net/en/localattractions.html look under Mathew legacy link http://www.bonavista.net/en/bonaphoto/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=36 http://www.matthewlegacy.com/english/index.html That should do you for pictures. Again a small ship
  16. Re: Ships of the Dark Ages and Medieval Period I was on a replication ship in Bonivista IIRC. Based on one that crossed the Atlantic back in the 1490's early 1500's One comment. Damn it was small. You never would have thunk it. Always assumed those early sea going boats were bigger.
  17. Re: What power would you buy (with a twist) TK, could make betting on sports evens rather profitable. THe various LS, no ageing immunity to everything however does blow everything else away.
  18. Re: What I've Learned Playing An Ostrich-Knight There is something about the old arcade games. I miss them. Granted something like postal 2, GTA whatever, or the modern sports or strategy games kick ***, but the old games can still hold their own, and are better then the stuff in the arcades today. And they do it on minimal processor power.
  19. Re: The things I've learned playing a munchkin If I were to DM D20 I would limit the players [and myself] to the basic PH, and DMG, no optionals. I find most of extra stuff in the books tend to be unbalanced and munchkiny. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of interesting stuff in say the fighter guidebook, stuff for any system player, just the rule changes.
  20. Re: The things I've learned playing a HERO If you try to make off with something the size of your left nut, don't play a Steriod user Ah Steriods they ease the pain... and have prob shrunk Arnie's left nut.
  21. Re: The things I've learned playing a HERO In mystory men then was a character like that IIRC, worked out rather well in the final assult. One T2000 player used to joke that his character was so tough, he had a stealth of 10. He didn't sneak around, he just walked normally, telling the baddies that they didn't see him.
  22. Re: The things I've learned playing a munchkin Always hold the attack dice [d20 or 3d6 depending on system]. Whenever the GM is about to say something, say "I attack the monster" and roll the dice.
  23. Re: The things I've learned playing a munchkin Kobold children are not worth the experience points alive I forgot where I read this, and it is more D&Dish then Hero, but still
  24. Re: Playing with characters provided by the GM Long story short, my character was a slave of the big guy who organized the party and sent it on its mission. Some of the other players decided to roleplay their charactes interactions to my characters status to the hilt. So I decided to roleplay his responce to said treatment to the hilt... when the other characters were in the middle of combat with a big bad thing. I forget if the caimpaign ended then, or not, or if the caimpaign was over anyways. Sure he was a slave, but he was a very strong, and very combat oriented slave, if you treat them like crap and even attack them on occation, you have to expect one to go all sparticus on you. I guess some of the other players felt differently. Also drop in some ego building dreams the DM gave my character in his sleep... We played together in the future though, I had enough history that they knew I wasen't being a putz and vice versa. Of course the caimpaign could of worked. The other players could of laid off the slave [who didn't belong to them anyways]. The slave could have bent over and taken everything. Actually it took multiple sessions before I started makeing backstabbing plans, and more sessions before said oppurtinity came about.
  25. Re: The things I've learned playing a munchkin More of a things I've learned GMing with munchkins. Or again, watching someone GM a munchkin, same person as above. When faced with a munchkin, double the damage all monsters dish out, and half the damage the character dishes out. Also set up instant death situations that you know the character will end up falling into.
