Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
From my limited Philosophy classes and readings, science and religion both fall under the general category of human philosophy. Interestingly, the Western modern world, due to Socrates, went the scientific route, while the East maintained its historically religious route. That is why we still hear so much about Chi with regard to Eastern medicine. The West, as yet, hasn't been able to use the scientific method to prove the existence of Chi or its effects. Although, there is some belief that Chi is simply an extension or enhancement of the bodies "electrical system." Because I have personal experience with Chi, I do believe it is a real thing, but I am uncertain as to the full extent of its abilities.
As for the "war between religion and science," yeah, I have to agree with "poppycock." Recent surveys show that the number of "non religious/spiritual" are something like 8 to 10% of the population, at least in the US. And I personally know a fair number of highly educated and science oriented people that still have religious or spiritual leanings. I don't think that is ever going to change unless someone somehow disproves the existence of a higher power. As far as I'm aware it is nearly impossible to prove a negative, but then I'm not formally schooled in the area of scientific research.
I am really interested in hearing other people's thoughts and opinions on the matter though.
