  1. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER This is one area where you definitely want to not use "discount services." I was extremely lucky in that my work covered almost the entire cost of the surgery. I only had to pay $500 to get the computer controlled Lasik, which scans and maps your eyes and then fixes them based on the scan. If not for my right eye being really, really bad, I would have perfect 20/20 vision. My left eye is 20/20, and my right eye is 20/25.
  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Had Lasik 8 years ago. Best choice I ever made.
  3. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I'm fine with the female warrior as is, and I would have to think that were she real, there would be confusion about her gender. Think about most female bodybuilders, which barely have noticeable breasts unless they are fake. Considering that breasts are fat, a woman with a lot of lean muscle mass isn't really going to have large breasts. Then slap on armor and there is a high probability that the assumption would be that she was a man. Of course, if it wasn't lean muscle and a good amount of the mass was from drinking alcoholic beverages and eating rich foods then there would be a higher fat content and therefore larger breasts. Now that said, she is a fantasy character, so I say whatever you visualize works for me.
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Hopefully they monetized the video. That would be some serious cash.
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Thanks. Fixed.
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Videos This should be going viral pretty soon, if it isn't already.
  7. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER There are several A&Ws around my neck of the woods. However, they are all KFC/A&W franchises. We actually had one of the first A&Ws in the country here in Sac, but it closed many years ago.
  8. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER But I'm in sleep mode, so it's okay. Really, really okay.
  9. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER In hindsight, probably not so much. I'm sure my loss equates to a few more years on the old ticker. Although, I have contemplated trying to recreate them.
  10. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Naw, just several. It was around back when I was in college, and a starving student, so I wasn't ever able to indulge, but it was a treat when I could get them. The place ended up closing after about a year and a half.
  11. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've had the very fries that you are describing: battered and deep fried. There was a little drive through restaurant that had them, and oh man... they were good. I think, if memory serves, they were fried once and then battered and fried again. The batter was seasoned, and came out crispy while the potato was tender. I'm sure they were no where near the healthy category of food, but they were definitely worth trying at least once, or in my case several times.
  12. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER One does not simply tell time in Mordor.
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER "What, the little furry things behind the giant trolls coming toward us?" "Yes! Yes, the bunnies!" "Seriously? You want me to fear the bunnies rather than the giant trolls?" "Don't you get it?! The trolls are running from the bunnies! Now run!" "OH!"
  14. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER To be technical it's aluminum-alloy, but I did say it can't be much different, assuming that it wasn't the same type of alloy.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Excellent use of double-sided tape to show how the supers do it. And now death will be after him...
  16. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've only done sheet-metal welding for aircraft, but I'm thinking aluminum can't be that much more different. I had it "mastered" after about 2 hours of practice. The idea being that if you bend the two pieces at the joint, the weld doesn't break before the metal does.
  17. Re: "Neat" Pictures Yes... yes, we do. You should see what the new terminal has.
  18. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Before this goes any further... FNORD.
  19. Re: A Thread for Random Videos For all of your zombie fighting needs...
  20. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER So last night we were getting silly with the "took an arrow to the knee" meme. I was explaining to my son how you build a phrase, and I came up with one that I thought was somewhat creative so I'm going to put it here as proof of its originality just in case someone "steals it." LOL "I used to be not good like you, then I took a thesaurus in the knee."
  21. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER From my limited Philosophy classes and readings, science and religion both fall under the general category of human philosophy. Interestingly, the Western modern world, due to Socrates, went the scientific route, while the East maintained its historically religious route. That is why we still hear so much about Chi with regard to Eastern medicine. The West, as yet, hasn't been able to use the scientific method to prove the existence of Chi or its effects. Although, there is some belief that Chi is simply an extension or enhancement of the bodies "electrical system." Because I have personal experience with Chi, I do believe it is a real thing, but I am uncertain as to the full extent of its abilities. As for the "war between religion and science," yeah, I have to agree with "poppycock." Recent surveys show that the number of "non religious/spiritual" are something like 8 to 10% of the population, at least in the US. And I personally know a fair number of highly educated and science oriented people that still have religious or spiritual leanings. I don't think that is ever going to change unless someone somehow disproves the existence of a higher power. As far as I'm aware it is nearly impossible to prove a negative, but then I'm not formally schooled in the area of scientific research. I am really interested in hearing other people's thoughts and opinions on the matter though.
